It could spell the end for destiny.
I'm not one to to say "______ is going to kill destiny", in fact I've never been, this is the first time. but I have my fair share of reasons this time.
Bungies lack of planned content or lack of willingness to give us an idea of what's to come, literally doesn't give players a reason to stick around. Even if the players aren't satisfied with how the game is now, there's no reason to stick around because bungie hasnt given any signs that they're trying to fix anything.
Here's what you actually do have to look forward to
http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2016/01/21/bungie-announces-small-scale-destiny-valentines-day-event-crimson-days/
https://www.vg247.com/2016/01/25/bungie-sell-destiny-ammo-packs-real-money-microtransactions/
heavy focus on pvp is starting to deter people who came for the pve aspect of the game and microtransactions are seeming to become less and less cosmetic which is starting to deter more people because they don't want to see the game become pay to win. Ammo may seem arbitrary (it's sold at the gunsmith and xur right?) but it's a foot in the door for micros that involve weapons. What do you think the next step is from here? Skins? Tess exclusive weapons?
To be honest the division can't do much to kill destiny because bungie put it on its last leg on their own. With the division launching in a little over a month, and multiple destiny player demographics in shambles, the only thing the division did was be at the right place at the right time.
All it has to do is not suck

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: so almost 300 comments in and I want to clarify some stuff.
I know a lot of people have said different games were going to kill destiny. But this one is close enough for it to actually pull it off. But not by itself. Bungie did most of the work for them. Destiny and the division are both
Shooters
Open world
RPG
Loot based
Continuous multi-player
Blend of pve and pvp (light enabled crucible, darkness zones in the division)
Their differences
Third v first person
Real sci-fi v fantasy sci-fi
Many people will be drawn to it for its similarities to destiny rather than its differences. That coupled with the shape destiny is in now can mean an exodus of a large part of the player base. As long as it doesn't suck.
--------------------------------------
As for everyone saying bungie confirmed the ammo micro as false, didn't they do the same thing about skill based match making?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit 2: 450 comments and I guess I should clarify that I don't mean the division will kill destiny as soon as it launches.
If the division does take a lot of destiny's core players bungie is gonna have to build a new one.
We can agree bungie has gotten enough bad press to almost deter anyone from destiny on utterance of the name. That being said, new player or old player, they're most likely skeptical of buying destiny 2 and will most likely hold off on buying it until after it actually releases.
And when bungie can't get enough launch sales, that's when they die. Because I doubt activision will fund destiny 3 with those results.

3 RepliesBest case: the division will give them a wake up call. Worst case: destiny dies

Anyone on ps4 wanna play the beta in 6 hours add me on psn
-
2 Repliesit's ok, when the division releases on March 8th, Bungie will release some DLC the size of HoW probably, just to get everyone to come back

11 Replies- I'm having such a great time with bloodborne at the moment. - I hope the division will be good since i'm a big fan of gears of war. - I hope destiny gets better. Conclusion: The more games that I like to play, the happier i'll be.

I jumped ship....after being very loyal since day one.

4 RepliesI actually do prefer 3rd person games. I'll never understand why but I like seeing my character.

12 Replieshavent looked at the game at all. think you can answer some questions for me? 1) can you be looted by other players? 2) are you forced to play with other people no matter what? i think they are my main questions. thanks in advance to any who answers.

5 RepliesThis beta got boring quick. Can't believe people are hyping this. For real, what's going to happen will be- People will play this, solid week at most. Get bored and tired of this because people will ruin the game for others. Like already, I can see people camping E zones, steal others "loot". Already saw Gothalion and Broman kill a random just waiting to extract his loot. Just for fun too... So yeah, sweaty players will really spoil this game, which would ruin this game.

1 ReplyMicro transactions screwed Destiny with its bullsh*t festival events crap. Destiny would be far better if it had two DLC's like last year. No game killed Destiny, Destiny killed Destiny.

I'm loving The Division right now but i can't say it will kill Destiny. The Division is more of an RPG (which is what I'm looking forward too) and Destiny is an open world shooter. I think a majority of hardcore players who still continue to play Destiny is the fact that it is an Open World Shooter or at least it's different from anything else. Destiny will live forever for those people. I say play whatever you like and have fun. That's the point. I would suggest to people to at least try The Division to see if you like it. If you don't then great at least you now know.

3 RepliesI Read the post, and I don't understand your reason for it. If the division kills destiny, great. If it doesn't, great. Are you really that bored that researching and analyzing video game marketing is your source of entertainment? Damn people on these forum are going crazy.

2 RepliesEdited by Copper_Ryno: 1/28/2016 5:59:57 PM
Bungies lack of planned content or lack of willingness to give us an idea of what's to come, literally doesn't give players a reason to stick around
You know I look around at this great community and see Guardians with near or well over a 1,000 hours invested into this game. Who could have ever predicted this much consumption of a game & the hunger of content that comes with it. I believe Bungie is currently working on the second installment of this great game. But let's take the perspective of the share holder since we invested so much into this amazing game. If Bungie were to ever "leak" any information on their upcoming project. What kind of legal ramifications would this come with? I'm by no means a investment guru. But I assume there could be insider information violation with any kinda "leaks" of future projects. I'm sure right now a lot of idea are being pitched around the office. Some will make it some won't. What would happen if Bungie said "X" is coming to the game but later it seem "X" isn't that great of a fit so they stop pursuing it. The Share holders (us) are going to react extremely volatile. It's almost safe to say that a bulk of the staff is currently working on the second installment. With a Skelton crew working on Destiny "1" maintenance ect. TL:DR Grab a pitch fork and let it burn #GuardiansLivesMatter

Division looks like it will have its own issues honestly. I'm sure it will be fun and I'll spend time on it, but it won't replace destiny for me and many others I believe.

1 ReplyThe fact that argue for and against The Division knocking Destiny on its knees is great. You also provide evidence that Destiny is shit. Well done.

2 Repliesgood post and I respect your opinion

13 RepliesIf the hype keeps growing, its a flop. I've played it. Lower your expectations and it'll be great

From what I have seen from the division so far, it doesn't look that great at all. Now it's only beta so they can change some stuff, but a lot of stuff are probably set in stone already. Things like the graphics, the combat style, and the whole darkness zone thing all look bad to me

18 RepliesTake the division and every other game you play and GO, I am so sick of these posts, just give it a rest, you don't like this game anymore? Good for you, just gtfo
-
AT this point Destiny bee out for a year and a half, I think everyone's mostly moved on. The fact that people still come back is a testament to the replay ability of this game.
-
I think the lack of information about the future plans for destiny and the release of some big games will pull people away.

3 RepliesDestiny. Like all other games.
can't be expected to be fun all the time, forever, as most players seek to think.

its a play once in a while until a DLC drops- play the crap out of the DLC- play once in a while until DLC drops- recurse
