Is it true that mormons give a certain % of their wages to the church?
English
-
10% we tithe. It goes to church magazines, scriptures, hymnbooks, temples, and to help the church members through financial struggles sometimes. Our prophet and apostles are not paid.
-
Doesn't everyone that officially is member of a religion have to pay church taxes?
-
Yes and your Heavenly Father rewards you for doing it
-
What i meant was that isn't it a governement tax? I'm not from the us btw. And don't confuse taxes with donations; one is forced, the other is voluntarily.
-
Churches are exempt from taxes. That's how they get such massive houses and fly around in private jets.
-
No it doesn't go to taxes it goes to the church
-
Yes, it's called tithing and it goes to the Church for the Church. It's not for the Bishops or the Prophets. It's there to help people, my boyfriend suffers from depression and instead of making him pay hundreds of dollars for a therapist the church pays for it from tithing. That's what it's for, to help people.
-
Thanks for the help
-
Of course :)
-
Tithe isn't exclusive to Mormons. Any religion that follows the bible likely follows the law of tithe. That is where it's from, the bible, not Mormons.
-
10% so their "prophets" can live in penthouses and get taxi'd around in brand new BMW's.
-
They are not payed for being the prophet or apostles or bishops or stake presidents. They have nice houses because they worked their butt off have great jobs and saved their money.
-
Sorry bro only half of that's true. First presidency, apostles and members of the 70 are paid, although it's called a stipend. It's just the lower levels of authority that don't recieve anything for their time.
