I have been in a few groups lately where people don't seem to get some of the more intricate nuances of this fight. This is your place to ask questions and get better at beating oryx.
Have any questions about the Oryx encounter?

14 RepliesEdited by Cheesesteak21: 1/8/2016 8:34:00 PMA tip for those on platforms this should be your sequence. 1 jump up 2 prenade the ogre (lead it so of the dps in the middle isn't great it won't walk forward into the aoe) 3 spam it with primary till it dies (Edit some have a problem with this, I use a ToM and prenade and I always get my ogre down quickly but some would rather use a sniper and that's your call I'd just rather save my special for the knight a second later. Rest assured if the titans are doing their job right and you prenade that ogre is going down fast. 4 RELOAD primary (this is a step alot of people miss but you should so that later when an alocoyt eye is spamming you or a taken centurion is trying to hit you, your not damaging yourself while trying to save yourself. 5 locate your knight, drop it (head and body will do with a 1000yard) 6 if there is a taken centurion by your knight the is an alcoyts eye somewhere around you. One shot from your 1000 yard will kill it but obviously it needs to die so keep it out find and kill it. The centurion might launch one of his orbs shoot it with primary or special. 7 (optional) be a bro and help with the knight by you nade it spam it with touch whatever. 8 (if on platform 1 and on either oryx left OR door right and the relic runner is a warlock) snipe ogre 4 help the people in the middle as ogre 4 is the one they usually have the least help with. BUT abandon platform asap expecially with low health get your ass to the bubbles safety. 9. Mentally check where 4th knight should be, help spam it down or go kill vessel. Mentally double check oryx location be ready to stagger 10. After staggering oryx move up with group to take out the adds on either side of the blight PRO TIPif you have a relic with the perk "chance to spawn an orb on precision kill of a taken enemy" that comes in handy a 318 with a 320 touch will 1 hit alcoyts so be a bro a generate some orbs. 11 don't die in shade Realm if you can self rez take the hit in shade Realm it's better for you to die than anybody else otherwise spam quiliums terminus or 1000yard stare (I've killed shade before he could even slam the first time if you tether and snipe the crap out of him it can be done) if you have an extra blessing bubble use it more armour never hurt anybody. If you only have one tether wait till 4 or 5 people are in to maximize dps. 12. Communicate 90 left 180 behind 45 right. 13. repeat [FOR THE RUNNER 1. Equip raze lighter. (edit: someone pointed out celestial nighthawk can 1 shot the vessel, so if your runner is a hunter I'd recommend that so you can keep using ToM 2. Max agility (duh) 3. Use the boots (duh) 4. Jump up on the platform as soon as oryx draws back his fist. (Pull out raze lighter before jumping up increased armour while carrying sword applies here and with your maxed agility you might need it. 5. Run platforms (duh) 6.CLEARLY ANNOUNCE WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO GET RELIC OR HAVE IT mic delay is a thing and some of your platforms might be getting hit we want them safe In the bubble asap. 7. Orient the camera before slamming not after, you can steal the brand before the vessel even hits the ground. 8. Sword the vessel ( it's so much easier when the runner just handles it then the rest of the group can handle the 4th knight or clearing adds or just mentally preparing to stagger oryx) 2 uppercut from raze lighter will do the trick 9 get to middle and focus on oryx chest precall out when to focus remember mic delay in a thing 10 shoot oryx chest (duh) 11 after staggering move up to shoot the thrall on either side of shade blight. 12 after getting put in shade Realm if there are a ton of adds use your sword to clear whatever is close to you but don't go to crazy oryx is key. 13. If your a self rez warlock when oryx charges take the hit... but just before you do uppercut him ;) FOR THE BUBBLE BROS 1. Touch of malice (duh) 2. Weapons of light (duh) 3. Blessing of light (duh) 4. ILLUMINATED seriously this will take your weapons from a 25% buff to a 35% and will give you that much stronger of an over shield with blessing seriously run illuminated just do it your bubble will cool down on its own. (Note if one of your bubble Bros dosent have his subclass leveled all the way[Christmas noob or idiot] Have them run weapons as you'd rather have a little stronger protection in the bubble and if you follow the following steps the ogres will be dropping quickly anyway. 5. Bastion makes bubbles last from when oryx slams until he staggers... what more do you want obvious. 6. You really want to run 1 of 2 helmets option 1 is the raid helm "take that" buffs your precision damage to taken enemies I noticed it taking my damage from 3k to above 4k obviously a worth while choice. The other is a year 1 favorite in helm of Saint 14. If your runner isn't running a sword and your group is having trouble with the vessel it helps to have him trapped blind in a bubble while you stagger oryx. Other worthwhile choices ruin wings or Armamentium. 7. Decide in advance who will get the 4th set of bombs 8. After clearing the thrall and knights in the begining don't reload your touch or if you do shoot it down to 2 or 3 left in the mag. 9. Pop bubble a second after oryx slams 10. Massacre ogres. 11. On the 4th ogre both titans should prenade then spam malace (Note if 4th ogre is oryx right there's a little object on the ground you can get hung up on while trying to go back in the bubble me mindfull of it I've seen it cause a few wipes.) 12. Locate where 4th knight will first appear I think it takes 3 head shots from a overcharged wol Tom but whatever kill it. 13 stagger. 14. You CAN drop a BoL in shade Realm but even with teir 5 intellect and orbs on the ground it can be difficult to recharge by the next time you need it. But if someone is about to die just do it. You can recharge of your buddy's bubble but you have to wait a couple seconds after they pop it so if you do have them pop the weapons bubble a second sooner so you can get yours up and both be shooting ogres on time. 15 repeat. CONTINGENCY PLANS So if your 2 rounds in and someone dies here's how you can save a wipe. One of the bubble Bros becomes platform 3. That way they can drop their bubble and still get on the platform on time. Adjust the whole group accordingly whoever has the highest ToM should stay in the middle. JUST A FEW GENERAL TIPS Whenever in shade Realm call out where the shade teleports. 90 right 180 behind 45 left the faster all guns are on him the better. Never tether when the shade charges this can cause a glitch where he slams twice. (Bungie please fix) Also if your in a group and you have no tethers and you happen to be a warlock... go void walker with bloom obsidian mind and shatter or vortex. Have fun because you will be bombing EVERYTHING. Seriously some of the most fun I've had in a boss fight in a while ;) Overall try to stay loose if you've had a couple hard wipes take a 5 minute break, take a piss make a drink, grab a smoke. Then come back to it. 2 groups did this then we 1 shot it the next try. Regarding bubble positioning I've been on top and bottom (gigiity gigity) didn't really notice too much of a difference. Top has better protection from adds and is much easier to locate 4th knight and you can 1 shot with wol sniper. But some classes have a hard time making the jump and you have to coordinate dropping down to meet the aura runner. Overall I'd just go with what people are comfortable with. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT After detonating bombs some back and shoot oryx in the chest. Relic runner needs to shoot him in the chest throughout. If I missed anything feel free to comment below and point it out good luck guardians!!

1 ReplyHere's something that clicked with me last night whilst stomping some thrall with my force barrier melee on defender titan with the "each melee kill while force barrier is active spawns an orb" perk. So at the start of Oryx when the hunter tethers the thrall for orbs...does anyone use force barrier with the above perk to spawn extra orbs? Does it work in conjunction with tether...so I'm talking like from 1 tether and 1 titan we can spawn something like 16 orbs?
-
1 ReplyUse "OAK" method. Ogre, Acolytes, Knight. The acolytes are only a problem when you are platform 2 or 3 when they are back right. I help kill my ogre then look right next to me to kill acolytes, then drop my knight.
-
11 RepliesYou don't need a bunch of Titans. We had one Titan as a runner he popped BoL in the middle and two warlocks used the BoL and ToM to take out ogres.

5 RepliesEdited by eXXz: 1/8/2016 4:15:09 AMAs a Hunter sometimes I notice i tend to take a lot of damage, red screen, by the taken spawning behind my plate next to where knight spawns after killing ogre. What i do as a hunter I tether the ground where the knight spawns behind my plate before i jump on my plate. I use the tether perk PREDATOR that tether stays on ground till enemies cross it. What this does is also helps the plate before me. Being that when his knight spawns he and the few taken are already tethered and helps him kill his knight easier. For me that allows me to shoot my knight without having to worry about taken damage from them. Win win everytime!

11 RepliesWould you please list your opinion of difficulty of each role from easiest role to most difficult?
-
I see groups panicking over the bombs the most. All you have to do is clear adds stabs by your bombs then someone counts down...
-
2 RepliesCelestial Nighthawk does wonders on the vessel :) If your runner is a Hunter and high enough light to one shot him.

6 RepliesEdited by ThisMahSwamp: 1/8/2016 5:12:54 PMClear your damn acolytes..... Seriously. They sawn RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR KNIGHT. Easy to kill after you drop your knight. Easy to take out the eyes that they spawn. DO IT and you will save your group a whole world of trouble. This is not asking for much, but it vastly improves the odds of people surviving the encounter for 4 waves. Also, if you are on plate duty, you are better off running Sleeper. I prefer the following load out if I am on plate duty: Hung Jury, LitC Eirene, Sleeper. With LitC you have a chance at 1 shotting your knight. Not a guarantee, but it comes in handy here and there.

1 ReplyOne thing i do to make the shade alot easier is after staggering oryx & clearing adds, switch from touch to red death-then if u are unlucky and get hit by shade-u can kill a thrall & get all your health back-then once shade is down-switch back to touch & go on to the next wave-this helps alot!.....Also to speed up shade kill, always have a hunter tether shade right after he reappears after his slam-this will melt him down so fast....Hope this helps.

3 RepliesLol its easy. Nothing advanced about it.

4 RepliesI've usually had good luck on LFG. I've only ever raided with randoms. Lately I can't find a competent group. I play in the morning around 8am central. Anyone on xb1 that can help?

3 RepliesFor the Titans in the middle (or on the daughters' platform) only have 1 Titan pop their blessing of light bubble. No need at all for weapons of light as you should have more than enough fire power to take the ogres and knights down without any teleporting. This will allow the 2nd Titan to be able to pop his blessing of light bubble once he gets teleported into the shade to provide protection for the rest of the team.
-
Titan Placement for DPS---I have done it many times both ways, but I prefer to have the two Titans up top on the Daughters' platform to kill ogres. For two reasons: 1) you have a much better vantage point to kill the 4th knight (especially if the 4th plate is in the front) and other straggler knights that the platform guys can't kill 2) as soon as the relic runner gets the relic the people on the platforms can just jump up the the Daughter's area and have protection from the Titan's blessing of light that is already active. Saves you from worrying about getting shot by a stray Axion Dart from the ship or a rogue Acolyte Eye.
-
5 RepliesQuestion. Do ogres lag after someone has died? This seems true for me, especially during challenge.
-
5 RepliesOne group I was with on challenge mode cleaned up all the thrall at once by waiting until Oryx regained favor, then tethering and grenading them before the aura despawns. No stragglers left, and orbs a plenty. Allows entire team to then focus on the taken knights and corner spawns during shade....I liked it, but most LFG groups don't trust that it works...the thrall will spawn continually if you kill them from the aura, but allowing them to come to center prevents any new spawns.
-
2 RepliesCan you kill the light eater Knight with a Nova Bomb? Just curious
-
19 RepliesCompleted the raid 50+ times and I still don't know what makes the acolyte eyes spawn. Sometimes they spawn before the runner gets the relic and sometimes they spawn when we're staggering oryx. Sometimes I don't even see them. (Could be a teammate taking them out)

5 RepliesWhat are these advanced strategies you speak of?
-
13 RepliesExample tips for DPS crew in the center: If both people DPS'ing in the middle have touch and a cocoon sniper best set up is main Dps'er uses sniper on first ogre while second Dps'er uses touch. They switch on second ogre (main Dps'er uses touch while second Dps'er uses sniper). You repeat for 3 and 4 and the cocoon should ensure that both Dps'ers have reloaded snipers when it's their turn to snipe. Ogres go down much faster like this. Both DPS'ers use grenades on the 4th ogre since the first three should be getting hit by a grenade by their corresponding platform.

10 RepliesEdited by SilentAssassin: 1/8/2016 2:02:37 AMRun two bubble Titans from the middle. They take out ogres with help from grenades from platforms guys. One run BoL and the other run WoL. Takes them out really quickly. Each platform is responsible for their knight and the two titans take out the 4th knight. Everyone DPS oryx. Rinse and repeat until 16 blights. One of the two titans (designated at the beginning) goes and gets the 4th set of blights when you reach round 4....

10 RepliesI've beaten hard mode several times, including a few oryx challenges. One question: After you've staggered Oryx, does or does it not matter if one or multiple players continue to hit him in the belly? This is in regard to overall damage . We've had many 16-at-once-orb runs with not doing enough damage to finish him off for good.
-
7 RepliesIf I'm one of the two titans. Idc if we run middle , or up top on a witch plate. To me, middle has less risk for all the plate holders. But up top has a big advantage of sniping the 4th knight quickly. Even tho killing the 4th knight is easy from middle as well.
-
Front right and back left should always kill both knights if Oryx slams front.
-
5 RepliesWarlocks should use stormcaller to take out all the adds and remaining knights after the runner gets the relic.
