House of Wolves had more content than any of the expansions including taken king.
You felt rewarded when you got a weapon because you knew you could get the roll you wanted.
The raid gear was worth grinding the raids for.
All content from vanilla to dark below was also a viable option.
The strike rotations included every strike and had some great guns in them.
Exotics didn't come pouring in through a little coin and the bounties were difficult enough to make you feel that you earned them.
Although the weapon meta was bad it wasn't nearly as bad as this mess we have now.
Localized matchmaking meant you almost never had red bars on your team.
Xur sold 5 heavy packs, instead of 3.
No time gated quests that just artificially increased the life of the game by weeks. (Except elder cipher and some tdb quests)
Overall you felt more rewarded. You knew once you got an etheric light the items light would be max and you didn't have to rely on rng. You had 3 sets of raid armor all max level. Your weapons were tailored to you because you didn't have to rely on rng for a good roll (because you were able to reroll it to get what you wanted) after you already waited through rng to get the thing.
I miss house of wolves and the drive to play because "they surely won't mess up all this progress with taken king! They're going in the right direction"
.... thanks for proving us all wrong again Actibungie
Edit: Don't get me started on Nightfalls.... I forgot they were even a thing because of how badly they're implemented now. Back then you got your weekly exp buff and good rewards... it was either Strange coins, a legendary engram/weapon or an exotic. Now you get a ghost shell.
Edit 2: To everyone who thinks I'm talking solely about poe or things added solely in HoW please consider that when I typed this I meant the state of destiny in its whole was at its peak during the time of HoW. I know it didn't have a raid and that PoE rewards were a joke. I was there too. Overall the systems in place and the rewards for every other activity were on point and just a lot better implemented.

Bump. But pls no more shank burn

Wait, but I thought everyone hated House of Wolves when it came out.
-
Blasphemy!

I 100% agree there was so much armor to choose from and you could make almost anything the highest level. Elemental primaries. Yeah good times...
-
Taken King as much as I played it...was the worst expansion.
-
House of wolves felt badass. Oryx was way to deus ex machina Shit happened way to conveniently and none of the story/lore was explained in the game

7 RepliesDid you enjoy getting to max light level in less than an hour?
-
Yes even with HOW pvp being a complete mess, you have to admit that it was fun sometimes just pulling out the thorn or last word and completely wrecking everything or putting on a NLB or an auto rifle and seeing how many kills you can get (when you're feeling trolly)...
-
It took me 2 weeks to max out everything I wanted in HOW. After that it was boring & I only did nf & trials every week
-
I loved what they did with taken king, but yes, house of wolves was the peak of what we wanted I think.
-
This. I miss all the stuff I could do happily and the stuff I spent a year playing the game for only to have them throw it all away for a crappier system based more heavily on RNG.
-
Bump, as I mostly play pvp I felt that, even with thorn used by 99% of people, the crucible was more fun back then. While TTK added a lot of good things, it also somehow took out that fun factor. Maybe I've just played too much and I'm slowly running out of things to do but I guess I'm just playing without purpose anymore.

3 RepliesEdited by Trooper8059: 1/6/2016 4:08:12 AMWhile HoW did not add too much in it's expansion, I think it really tied up Destiny very well. There was a sense of freedom, go wherever you want, wear whatever you want, play any activity you wanted. Then Year 2 came in and threw it all away. Limited to one useful raid, and infusion destroyed the sense of creative freedom with gear.

I love how the game if now.and i hope they bring newer and old content back in the mix so we can have more variety.i know this is suppose to be an mmo but break the rules so we can have three raids lol i would like it

You guys drink too much.

I wanted a proper raid for that expansion though.... PoE was ok. But it was basically Firefight from halo...

4 RepliesEdited by Shortie4400: 1/6/2016 12:16:25 AMI agree. I remember planning out what days I would do nightfalls, raids, and PoE. That plan was almost the entire week, with the rest being Trials. There was so much content that was actually viable. The only thing was that I didn't feel very rewarded when I got guns because I had better ones with good rolls.
-
Im pretty sure they are going to make all the old end game com viable again, they talked about a sandbox change along with other goodies this year. I don't think they expect us to live off of with what we have for another year.

2 RepliesI completely agree with you. The one thing I will say about HoW though is that the PvE meta sucked. Fatebringer, Black Hammer, and Gjally were basically just the standard loadout for everyone. PvP meta was pretty bad too but at least shotguns were still as viable as snipers, unlike now.

Ethric light was amazing That's about it

1 ReplyLiterally most of your points are utter bullshit

3 RepliesThe HOW raid is the finest I've seen.
