Something seriously needs to be done about quitters in Iron Banner. Last night 7 out of 10 of my matches were joined in progress. And when I do find a full match, and my team gets behind by 5000 points (even if it's very early in the game) at least 2 or 3 players will quit, ensuring there's no way to come back from that deficit. I don't mind playing solo if my team actually stays and plays or if I can be put on the winning team at least half the time. But joining 4 or 5 games in a row that were already in progress and having teammates quit constantly ruins the experience for everyone.
I suggest stricter punishment for quitters. Quit out of 3 matches in a row on the same day? 10 minute ban from matchmaking. Quit out of 5 in a row? Banned until the next Iron Banner. And if you quit out of a total of 10 matches during an iron banner event, you will be permanently banned from participating in Iron Banner until the next event. Another idea is that quitting could take away one of your medallions and subtract 100 Iron Banner reputation. I want some seriously harsh punishments for quitters, the problem is worse than I've ever seen it before.
Inb4 "I play on a dial-up or DSL connection and I'm frequently dropped from matches". No, you people with Stone Age Internet need to upgrade to actual high speed internet or deal with the potential consequences. You're the people with red bar connections that ruin the experience for everyone else. Can't afford it or it's not offered in your area? Maybe non-matchmaking activities are better for you. Why should the majority of players suffer because of that one guy on each team with a red bar connection? But that's a whole different subject. Plus most of the quitters aren't people with bad connections. This isn't directed at those people; it's directed at people who intentionally quit.
Edit: Apparently some of you are too dense to realize that you wouldn't be put into a game in progress if someone hadn't quit that game in the first place. Also some of you seem to think that error codes are so common that this would definitely result in unwarranted bans. If you're getting tons of error codes, you probably have a slow or bad internet connection. Some of you are also so dense that you think quitting once for an emergency would get you banned... Seriously? Do people even read the whole post or only the title before commenting? Use some common sense.
Some people are saying they have a fast connection and still have a yellow or red bar. That could be because the host of the match has a bad connection, which isn't your fault. It could also be because you need to open certain ports on your router to get an open NAT type. You can check your NAT type in your console under network settings. If it says moderate or strict you should check your router's settings and see if the proper ports are open. You can google "open NAT type" for instructions on how to do this. Doing so will reduce your number of error codes and help you connect to friends easier.

I suggest better rewards, not punishment. People leave because the rewards do not match the effort, or frustration, to play in a lopsided game, particularly after you have five medallions. I have all three characters at rank 5 and have received plenty of IB armor and weapons ... all below 300. Only one rank 5 package had good gear ... a 318 SMG I can't really use because I have higher level Raid weapons. After playing all week and getting poor rewards, I am playing on my own terms ... on maps I want to play on, and not in lopsided matches. I am just not doing it.

How can you punish someone when is not always his fault that he is red bar. I've been playing Desriny since alpha with the same internet connection and it wasn't until TTK that i started having problems with lag and red bar. My friend list consist of people from Australia, UK, Russia, US, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Canada. Never had lag or red bar issues while playing with them. Now i'm red bar like 85% of the time. Bungie its at fault too.

9 RepliesWhen bungie stop putting me against a full fireteam and giving me thrall as teammates I'll stop quitting. I play to enjoy the game. If I'm not enjoying it I'll leave and find a more fun lobby. I'm not staying in a game with a good team double capping heavy, spawn camping and chaining supers. Why the hell should I.
-
Except the occasional error code pops up, no matter how good your internet is. I only leave if Im dropped into a game that's already losing, or if im top of my team but we're still losing by 5000 points.
-
I agree with this post all the way
-
Nah I'd rather have them quit then the guy who just danced in spawn the whole game
-
I agree. Maybe a 1hr - 2hr ban for people who leave games more than 3 times in a 24hr period.?
-
Even worse than the quitting is the medallion farming (people literally sitting down and doing nothing the whole match so they can purposefully lose). Would be perfectly happy if Bungie completely removes medallions completely to counteract this. That's the way the first Iron Banner was. No consolation prizes for the snowflakes and if you lost, you got what you deserved (nothing).

Punishing players who are not having fun is not going to entice people to play.
-
They'll never punish or ban people for this most players are so casual they won't even care if they were banned and just get offline or play another game.. I think they'd prefer to keep the players intentionally leaving the game, they still get a player ( or average players time) count for someone sitting in orbit
-
Nah. This will never happen. Too many laggy people for anyone to care about quitting penalties. I will literally quit out of every game if I keep getting matched against 3+ red bar opponents. I don't care about medallions. Or rep. Or winning. If I can't shoot someone because they're skipping around the map the whole time I am just gonna go patrol or watch tv. Not worth it for me

3 RepliesGet gud scrub...
-
Subtracting rep is a great idea
-
Never gonna happen, and all my characters are rank 5 I won't quit out but before rank 5 if I'm done with bounties and I join a losing match I'm out sucka
-
Umm no
-
But what if the game is really laggy or my mum wants me to take her to groceries? Why would I get punished for quitting?
-
You are going to dictate who gets to play what? There is a reason people like you should never have power and rarely suceed at life :)
-
-500 IB rank every time you manually remove yourself from a match. Problem solved. Your welcome.
-
They had punishments for quitting in Halo Reach(5 years ago), why not Destiny?
-
I only want you to ban me. I leave when you turn red and become invincible. I call that cheating. You call it lag. Ban me for not tolerating your BS! While you are at it, try to sell me your next update. Good luck!
-
No they need to fix the fukking lag issues first, then not as many people would quit
-
Yes please. .punish me for quiting this laggy POS
-
2 RepliesPut a five minute lock out of you quit too many times. This needs to happen. Also the tendons going up against full fireteams were supposed to be fixed I thought, but I guess not.
-
2 RepliesThis post should be called stricter punishment for little bitches who complain a lot about others.

Why dont you just make it so it cost ten legendary marks to quit a match problem solved
