I'm not trying to be a douchebag or anything but here's my story. I'm an atheist and my grandparents can't accept it even though I'm 18 and it's my choice. So this Christmas I head over to my grandmas house and she says "Open your gift, I'm sure you'll love it" and guess what it is?
A -blam!-ING BIBLE
Yes she decides to spend 50 dollars on something she knows I won't touch in my entire life. I appreciate that she at least thinks of me but still it's demeaning that she's trying to convert me whenever she can.
Yes I know that I'm an atheist and I celebrate Christmas but I don't celebrate it for the birth of "Christ" but I only celebrate it for time with family. Also, I'm selling the bible and buying another gift for my father with my money since he actually respects my decision.

4 RepliesI don't know the back story between you and her, but you should tell her thanks and not read it if that's what you want to do. A present is a present, and you should stop being an asshat.

I'm trying to understand whether they did it because they earnestly love you (because it's natural for anyone to want the person they love to belive the same thing they do and be "saved" ((or whatever they believe in)) and not burn in whatever hell they believe in) or if they do it because they are judgemental and think that all atheists are bad people. I could see the first option as being more likely. I totally understand and agree that, "hey, bro. Give me some space. Guide me but don't make my decisions for me" but I would at least try to understand their intentions first. Btw tbh I think Atheists read the Bible more than Most Christians. Just saying.

3 RepliesBest present anyone could give you. I would read it.

2 RepliesIt's definitely up there with the best fantasies of all time. Still think Lord of the Rings shades it.

1 ReplyAt least you got a gift. I spent 200 bucks on stuff that my family "needed". Because I thought it would make them happy. While my brothers got really cool gifts I didn't receive anything in return ;( Christmas is all about giving sure, but it stings a lot when your family and relatives forget about you. It's not a bad gift. The gift what you got isn't something you connect with that is all. I am not trying to sound mean btw.

2 RepliesI feel your pain, but you probably saw it coming. The best ammunition in arguments with Christians is passages from the bible so make the best of it.

1 ReplyRead it through. This way you understand what you choose not to believe. This way when someone says you don't even know anything about it, you can prove them wrong.
