Now that my seemingly stupid title has drawn you in and some of you are preparing insults, let me explain.
The two weapons have a surprising number of similarities that don't come to mind immediately. By "surprising number" (that I can think of), I mean a number that is probably made of half-nonsense and half-incorrectness.
These include but are not limited to
- both being Exotic Hand Cannons (duh)
- both having long, tedious quest lines associated with them
- both being very dissatisfying after the effort required to get them
- both being somewhat maligned by the community for being so bad, necessitating a buff
- both having backstory involving The Last Word, albeit with TFC's being nowhere near as long or interesting (some speculating that TFC and Thorn may in fact be the same weapon - key word: speculating, "some" equating to roughly 1)
- post-buffs, TFC will have far superior Range to most if not all of its peers, something Thorn was notorious for
- I ran out of ideas here. They both have green lights, I guess? Spooky.
Discuss. Unless you don't want to, or you'd rather tell me how wrong I am. Actually, I suppose that that is discussion.
What am I doing with my life?
After receiving much feedback on this half-serious attempt at comedy, I can conclude that many people do not actually read posts properly or fully understand the ideas in question. Who'd have thought, idiots on teh interwebz? Ridiclious! (intentional error).
TFC can't 2-shot or have DoT >>> will never be new Thorn.
1) Yes it can
2) Did Thorn have incredible bonuses when using ADS? I think not.
3) You've missed the point anyway.
4) Good job, forum dweller.

I lol'd Op. GG.

You can counter being 2 shotted by not running minimum armour. It has far slower far rate than thorn. It is not a good gun. It's not thorn. Obtaining it is similar to thorn. That's about it.
-
TFC will be good but nothing will ever be the new thorn

1 ReplyEdited by Erijian: 11/27/2015 3:54:36 AMPre-nerf Arcbolt + First Curse Headshot would've killed. Bungie planned it all out in advance to prevent its rise.
-
2 RepliesHawkmoon had the most range, only now that it's being nerfed will there be a Hc with more range
-
2 RepliesDoes the final round glitch thing still happen when you equip, unequip, and re equip?

1 ReplyIf only the first curse had aggressive ballistics...

1 ReplyH.A.W.K.M.O.O.N.

17 RepliesThe thorn bounty was way harder than first curse... 500 void kills back on vanilla eww.... killing phogoth with modifiers similar to getting the exotic sword strike when we used to be 27-28... ouch.. Not even the chaperone virst part can compare to that.... As for the weap9n itself... nothing can compare to the poison... yea first course had a bad start like thorn and its getting a buff... but wont be as annoying as that

3 RepliesBoth will never and have never been as good as hawkmoon.

Lol I was kinda scared there until I read the post.

Not even close

Edited by jay p: 11/27/2015 6:33:02 PMThe first curse' storyline is interesting. Edit: I was always a big proponent of the jaren ward = dredgen yor theory. However, because of some of the the grimoire cards that explained what happened to the last word, this theory was called into doubt. Now that we know that ward had 2 guns, the theory that yor = ward is not only plausible again, but probably likely at this point.

Hhahahahaha neverrrrrrrr suck a .....

Someone probably already said this, but the reason Thorn was OP was not the damage output, but the time it takes to fire off two headshots, and how long the DoT would put you out of combat. For the majority of players, TFC will take 3 shots to kill them. The super low rate of fire means you have more time to react and potentially kill your target, unlike thorn. If you retreat to cover after getting hit from TFC once, you can quickly regen and get back to the action? While Thorn would keep you in a weakened state and unable to return fire. Sure, the guns have a lot of similarities in terms of history and how they are obtained...but it's definitely not the new Thorn.

4 RepliesCan you two-shot someone in pvp with it? No? Then it's not the new thorn.
-
The thorn quest was the best way to get a gun, simples
-
Thorn and tlw will be back anyway who cares.
-
1 ReplyThorn was underpowered when first launched, just like the First Curse Thorn curses its enemies, First Curse has curse in its name
-
It is already beast in pvp

2spooki4me. Plz nerf.

Thanks for the lols. Spooky.

I loved Thorn, I was super happy when I got it. It felt like an achievement back in the day. It was the most unique gun in the game. It was alien, beautifully designed and deadly. Doing it solo on a hunter with no void primaries was hard. But well worth it. I have no reason to grind the first curse. It's a lazy reskin. Year 2 Destiny is so -blam!-ing pointless, cheap and lazy. Badly designed. Some of the best weapons are legendaries. Practically everything is a reskin.

Edited by dhamm26: 11/27/2015 11:22:09 AMThorn was ridiculous because of the range and DOT, that's the end of it right there

And that's why mines a 310 ;)
