Not only does it condone it. It also says that the -blam!- victim must marry her rapist and they can't divorce each other!!!
Let me just say I'm not against the bible. I'm against the insane things it tells people to do.
Isn't it scary to think that some people actually follow EVERY rule it says?
I was raised to be christian but after seeing all of the things that the bible is okay w I choose not to follow it. I'm all for the acceptance of others but that's just not what I was taught about the bible. I was told to hate people for stupid reasons.
(I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I think people deserve to know EVERYTHING about what they follow) please don't try to be offended. Ik many people are defensive of it and because of that SOMETIMES they can be bent...I'm bored w this.

In modern times that passage would equate to saying the rapist should have to pay for all the women's bills. Keep in mind the context of the times. Back then a women's virginity was much more important also women had no source of income then had to marry basically to live. So if a women was -blam!- she wouldn't be suitable for marriage and therefore would have no way of supporting herself in life.
I am not thay religious and yes I think it's odd also but I'm jusy trying to give you some background on why it says that
1 ReplyThat's the old law. Jesus came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. That's like taking the original laws about slavery in the U.S. and saying that the U.S. condones slavery.

1 ReplyThey simply edit it out for the New Testament Just wait in 20 years but the new New Testament will have women as equals and anyone that attends once a year shall have one really unlucky day, oh and that god didn't kill ppl but satan did and people thought it was god
I'm kidding about the women equality part, that wouldn't make it till the new new New Testament
So if god told people to write a bunch of stuff down, what makes you think they wouldn't fck it up?

Look, people back in the days of old thought differently than we did. Regarding your discovery, it was a punishment for a man to marry his victim if he -blam!- her and she was unmarried. Laws were made among the Israelites because they believe sins affected the whole community, not just the guilty individual. Also, the writers of the Bible did not have the primary intention of telling the exact story of certain events, but rather teaching a lesson.

That passage doesn't "condone" -blam!-, it states the legal punishment for -blam!- an unmarried woman. While you could argue that the punishment is not severe enough, you cannot argue that the passage "condones" that behavior.

Some people who are less intelligent fail to realize the bible is supposed to be interpreted personally. You don't take everything word for word

I've never read the bible. I want to someday but it's a little confusing.

1 ReplyEdited by pmbannedIcy: 11/5/2015 10:09:32 PMNope it doesn't. It says it's adultery and in the Old Testament it goes as far as saying you should be put to death. Edit: “But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and -blam!-s her, only the man who has done this shall die.” Deuteronomy 22:25 NIV

Can't say -blam!- but you can say rapist. Come on, bungie
