I listen to several Destiny-based podcasts and I noticed that when people refer to the supercell, they call it the "Zaylo" or "Zahlo" Supercell.
As somebody who speaks Russian fluently, I'm going to help you all.
Say the word 'prestige'.
Now say it again but leave out the "presti".
All that's left is the 'zh' sound.
It's the sound in the middle of the word "vision". (Could be spelled vizhen.)
In the Cyrillic alphabet there is a letter which makes that sound.
Another explanation: while making the "sh" sound, vibrate your vocal cords like you're humming. That should produce the "zh" sound.
Also, in Russian, if the letter o is stressed, it makes the o sound. If not, it makes the 'ah' sound. In the word Zhalo, the a is stressed, thus the o is pronounced as an a.
"Zhah-la" supercell.
In Russian the word means 'sting'. Noun form, not verb.
Play on.
Edit: Removed awkward explanations... Trending?! Sweet! Thanks guys!
Edit: As English speakers I know we can't be expected to pronounce a Russian word as a Russian might. We would say the 'o' as 'oh'. But the zh sound is easy, (and if you prefer just z, that's cool too)
Mostly I thought it would be cool to know the meaning.

1 ReplyObviously it is pronounced Zee Halo. Or at least it should be in honoring of it being Xur'd when Halo was released.
-
3 RepliesI just say Z-halo so theres no confusion lol
-
3 RepliesCool! Learn something everyday. On a kinda related note, the sniper "Tao hua yuan" means peach garden in Chinese.
-
1 ReplySo it's jah-la supercell? If it's like prestige that is what you're saying?
-
1 ReplyCool beans. Too bad it doesn't come with a bottle of vodka ;P
-
1 ReplySo in English would it be the "Stinger Supercell"? Would that be a fair conversion from Russian to English?

I knew how to pronounce the Zh portion, but didn't know about that 'o' being pronounced 'ah' bit, thanks for the lesson!
-
I just keep it simple and call it supercell
-
Or "Thunderlad/Thunderlass", maybe.
-
Thanks for this! I'm loving the meta challenge of figuring out the gun names and what they mean. Also I was pronouncing it "Zallow", so at least I'll be saying it right.

2 RepliesI can sleep at night knowing that mother Russia has helped in defeating the darkness
-
if i ever wind up playing with Russians, maybe, but until then i'll pronounce it 'zhaylo' like everyone else i play with. same as i'll save the 'yallerhorn' pronunciation for the first full-on Viking dude i wind up in a team with.

Sorry all these people are being rude and saying nobody cares. While this topic is not directly related to game play, it is in a way related to the lore of the game. The developers pick these gun names for a reason I imagine, even if they themselves don't pronounce it correctly. I found it interesting to read your explanation, and will try to remember how to pronounce it correctly when I buy it later. At a bare minimum, your post automatically better than 99% of the rest of this forum which is comprised mostly of salty tears and dirty diapers.

I'll keep saying Tsaalo.
-
"Zah-Low" The a makes the O long sound and the H makes the a short sound
