The (frozen) rat we bought him was larger than usual when we defrosted it, but we're all like, he's got this. Anyway, we, uh, modify the rat to make it easier for him and heat it and put him in his feeding tank. So we open the case and he strike feeds, which is a good sign he's ok with the size. So we leave him once he's got the head, and just give him some time. So it takes ages. I'm checking him, and he seems cool, so all good. Not regurgitating so feed going well. He's got this. Anyway, I'm sitting in the front room waiting and the sound on the tv is down because I'm reading the forums, and I hear a noise. Like an unidentifiable noise. So I wait a bit and then I hear it again, and then periodic similar noises. I check the snake but he's cool. Hmm. Seems the noises are coming from over here though. That's when I found out today's fun fact about snakes. They squeeze. He was crushing the rat to make it fit and the noise was dead rat farts. Dead. Rat. Farts. I mean. So I'm the only person still up and now I'm sitting in a room of dead animal farts. I did not think this was how my day would end, and needed to get this off my chest. He's a cool pet, but I think he's crossed a line by making me breathe the insides of dead things. Phew. I feel better. Thanks for your time. I'm going to go and open a window. Edit: update. First up, I thought this post would attract more attention due to its educational nature but never mind. Secondly, the snake looks super happy today and we don't expect him to move for about a week. I'm still not sure he's forgiven, but he doesn't look like he cares.
