Just to clear the air. I'm a Sunbreaker main. I hope HoS does not gets nerfed (I'd love that actually). But the fact is, eventually Bungie will turn our direction with the nerf bat and swing away. I'd rather offer suggestions than hope they don't castrate Sunbreakers.
Here's my theory on how to balance HoS without a neutering it:
Forgemaster: When Hammer of Sol is active, Titans have reduced Agility and Lift (or alternatively, reduced damage reduction).
Suncharge: Hammers consume more super energy, Suncharge consumes less super energy.
Fire Keeper: Hammers consume considerably less super energy when standing in a Sunspot.
1. Titans will be slightly easier targets with Forgemaster, but that's the trade off for having extra hammers. Risk vs Reward.
2. Suncharge will be viable choice, but emphasizes Suncharging in close proximity over throwing hammers. Risk vs Reward.
3. Sunspots (Scorched Earth/Fire Keeper) get a much needed buff. 2-3 more hammers than Forgemaster and an overshield, but at the cost of being limited to Sunspots for maximum effectiveness. Risk vs Reward.
TL;DR - More hammers, but be an easier target. Or be a tougher target, but have less hammers.
Edit 1: No longer applicable
Edit 2: Additional tags
Edit 3: Clarifying some stuff up front to help those who don't read the entire post
Edit 4: Added suggested buff to Fire Keeper. Currently, Forge Master in itself nets more hammers than the Scorched Earth/Fire Keeper combo.
Edit 5: 600+ replies and trending, keep it up guys!
Edit 6: 800+ replies!!! Added a note up top since people read 'no double jump' and freak out.
Edit 7: Simplified the entire post and made it shorter. Also limited mobility limitation to just the Forgemaster talent and a change to Suncharging to emphasize Suncharge over throwing hammers. This distinctly separates the 3 builds from each other and helps address some things you guys had issues with.
Edit 8: 1000+ replies!!! Also fixed some grammar
Edit 9: 1200+ replies :) by popular demand, added an alternative change to Forgemaster
I like this solution better:
Re-buff Golden Gun so it actually one shots supers like they said they did in patch 2.0.
I've killed a Hammerdin with every super so far, more with storm caller and voidwalker, but every super is doable (BD sucks to kill a Hammerdin with, since it's so close quarters). PS. Main a warlock.

3 RepliesIf damage reduction is lowered on Hammer of Sol, how are Titans supposed to get that chest on the Dreadnought?
-
Stop using a support class against a offensive class. Problems solved
-
1 ReplyThe super is fine as is
-
They can do whatever they want to the sunbreaker now, I'm getting my chaperone on weds.
-
No just make it so they throw little marshmallows around not the big ones, that way nobody will get hurt. You could lose an eye like that.
-
No just make out a limit on how many hammers can be thrown in PvP say 2-4.

8 RepliesThe solution Nobody sees: Remove Cauterize
-
1 ReplyThey should just make a sunspot build more appealing. How about the ability for 8 hammers in a sunspot but limit it otherwise to 5. You also can't use cauterise with this build. Change the armor from 55% to 20%

6 RepliesDescription of Hammer of Sol! Golden gun that has 5 shots and shoot Novabombs so you don't need to aim ( woudn't want us to need skills ) and also spawns with an overshield harder to kill than a sunsinger's self-res! Oh wait they can also regen health after eachkill! But i'm just a crybaby you know! Cause playing trials against 3titans is gonna be so much fun!!! ( automatic loss for 3 rounds ) Why would i complain? They need a good super because they're melee and grenades aren't that good... SIKE you're melee burns me for ever and you have a ( no skills required ) grenade that makes 90 degrees angle to stick on someone and instant kill At least a hunter needs to aim with nightstalker or with golden gun and tripmine! Well taking the fact that the titan is the biggest pvp crutch in history off my chest feels pretty darn good! Now i can go back in crucible die by a hammer, respawn and die by the same guy with another hammer... YAY!!!!!!

1 ReplyAll it needs is a cooldown timer on health regen in PvP

93 RepliesCan bladedancers blink while in super? Can warlocks blink and then void bomb? Can they become floating grenade barrages of death in sun singer and double jump to reach people in stormcaller? EVERY class has a mobile, multiple kill super. Warlocks and hunters have MORE than one option for a mobile, wandering murder machine. People are upset that Titans finally have a super that lets them get multiple kills consistently and non-situationally. Get over it. Bungie is collecting data, then they'll decide if a nerf is warranted. I think A LOT of people are going to be disappointed when they decide one isn't, or that a tiiiiiiiny reduction in armor is all that is required, after their data doesn't show Titans as a ridiculous outlier like all the loudest whiners seem to think they are. Pay attention to how incredibly deadly stormcaller is. Or bladedancer. Or gunslinger. Titans don't get way more kills than these classes, even if the whiners are focusing on only the sunbreaker because a mobile Titan super is a brand new, never before seen thing people will just have to get used to.

"Finding Spawn Location..." Finally, I spawned! Damn game - BLAM BLAM F**k! Seriously?! I spawned next to a guy with a shotgun?! Argh!
-
How about just reduce the health a bit ?
-
Sounds good.
-
Your fix, is the current skill tree. You can have more hammers, but your character is less versatile. Or you can have less hammers, but have better abilities.

The Destiny community is the definition of casual gaming.

23 RepliesThe solution that nobody who salty and as bad as you sees: Git Gud

3 RepliesEdited by A Destiny Player: 10/17/2015 11:11:36 PMThe solution is even simpler than any of this. Cauterize shouldn't work in pvp with hammer of sol.
-
Nah brah
-
The only change it needs is less damage reduction.
-
2 RepliesThe only change anyone should expect, if any, is a small change to the damage reduction gained during HoS Everything else doesn't need any changes
-
I cant wait for the nerf. So all of you titan scrubs can fill my empty pool with your tears
-
10 Replieslmao, cry more. keep on crying to mommy whenever something challenges you... why would sunbreaker be the only subclass that has negatives? i know, because you have gotten complacent ignoring titan supers, so now that theres one that puts us on equal footing its butthurt city. i hate that this (crying for a nerf on forums) is a viable strat in games now, over adapting their playstyle they cry on the internet.

1 ReplyAgree people who cry nerf have no fear bungee is making a playlist just for you in which everyone will only be able to use the same very shitty gun while having no specials or abilities just think of how much fun all of you whining little bitches will have
