For those who didn't believe in the 'slippery slope' of Silver...

Notice how in the return section of Eververse Shop it says: "Consumable items are nonreturnable" Notice how there currently aren't any consumable items in the store, only emotes. This means that you can assume they'll be adding consumable items sooner or later. Current consumable items in destiny provide XP boosts, glimmer boosts, and even increase to exotic/raid drop rates. Making these available to buy with silver will make it pay2win, which the majority of you denied would ever happen! I can see it now. A 'free' raid with ridiculous drop rates, and the only way to increase them is to buy a consumable item that increases them. EDIT:
They also nerfed the drop rates for motes, strange coins, and weapon parts today. Coincidence?
EDIT 2 (Jackolytes):
For those of you bringing up the jackolytes, notice how they are the only cosmetic consumable item (along with the other halloween item xur sold). They only last for a limited time because they coincide with a holiday, and like their holidays, these consumables also last for a limited time. I think that people wouldn't want to pay real money for something that only lasts for a limited time, and has no real impact on your game. I also think bungie would be logical enough to realize this, leaving the only possible consumable items to be ones that effect progression and would make the game pay2win. Also, only adding jackolytes wouldn't be a bad thing(although i would never buy one). I think we should all be more concerned about the potential of pay2win items.
EDIT 3:
People have spotted new consumables in the Database. Some Max out your subclass and increase raid drop chances. Whaddya know?: http://db.destinytracker.com/items/consumables/consumable
EDIT 4:
Just stating that this is just speculation and I only know just as much as all of you, and don't claim to be 100% right. I'm not trying to argue, whine, or be hostile with anyone either. :] Also, I don't want to be right because these changes could ruin the game for myself and a whole lot of others.
EDIT 5(Urgent): Statement from Luke Smith: "We aren't (nor are we planning) on selling consumables that buff King's Fall drop rates for Silver." While I'm sure a lot of you are pleased(like myself), he seems to be avoiding the possibility of adding other consumables in the shop, like motes, strange coins, and other items we've been talking about. Seems shady if you ask me, but we'll see...

  • The statement from Luke Smith is very specific. It won't increase drop rates for kings fall... That doesn't mean it won't for the next raid. Things are about to go downhill really fast.

  • How about, we wait and see what happens? What if the consumables are items that increase the level of a fresh character to 25? Or something along those lines. Who will that hurt? Even motes, and coins. I don't think that would bother me too much, as long as they don't adjust drop rates any further. Coins and motes drop like crazy, so why buy them? If people really want that short cut... then let them. Now if they start selling motes, but nerf it such that you only get 1 when you level up post 49, then I'll take issue.

  • So there is no plan to sell anything to increase drop rates but the drop rate will remain and it just means the grind will continue and people will be stuck in the forever 290's.

    • What's so bad if you can buy motes and coins with silver? It's just a short cut. Same as xurr. It's hypocritical to be okay with xurr but not buying motes with silver.

    • Micro Transaction like those items will probably make me quit the game, I don't mind items that don't effect us like cosmetics. There is already a good amount of games releasing soon so Destiny will fall off the map for me I suppose. I just hope they will come to finalize these decisions before I get my 2TB harddrive that I plan to order next week. I don't wanna waste my time downloading all of Destiny than see these items get added that will make me quit lol.

      • In regards to your edits, just my own opinions: Edit 1- I believe this has more to do with slowing down how fast people rank up factions than selling materials for real world money. Edit 2- I think that people would be willing to pay for things that last just a little while, especially around holidays. I think they would buff the length of time they lasted though if they did sell things like jackolytes. I can see it now though, since they already implemented it with the faction exotic class items: Bat spawn effects for halloween, snow spawn effects for christmas, may actually be pretty sweet. Consumables may not necessarily be something that goes away either. What if there is a gun shader consumable, that is one time use, but permanently changes the color of your weapon? Or a consumable that gives you a beard permanently? (i would pay for the beard lol) Edit 3: Your edit 5 clears this one up. Edit 4: I agree 100%! Really the only consumable i would be of with them selling is the Spark of light, but only if you already have on character at level 40. This will still force new players to have to play the vanilla game to get up to speed, and will allow veteran players to easily remake a character or level up a new character without having to endure the struggle again.

      • I have never In My life seen a more negative group of pussies in my life! I mean seriously!! You see a few things in the armory and you jump off the deep end with negative speculation and conclusions based solely on air. The sky is falling, the sky is falling... Oh noes the sky is falling! You all sound like a bunch sissies spreading gossip hoping for someone to join your little pity party! Wah wah (insert tears) Just play the friggin game already and enjoy it, you may as well, you paid for it! If at some point bungie or activision changes the way the loot system works or makes it such that you have to buy things then quit and move on. It's really that simple. Sitting here in the meantime crying about your "guess" as to what the future brings is just plain silly

        • To your point on edit 2...no one would spend rl money on something that doesnt effect the game. Yes, they would. They already have! Ive seen lots of people with multiple new emotes already. U can only get 2 for free, but ive seen many people with more, and the ones that cost more than what they gave us free.

          • I guess we'll see Everis selling some sort of "starter kit", like the Titan one in the database. I hope they won't add those "increase raid drops" consumables - that would be game breaking for me. However, there is not much we can do, off course if we all stop buying silver Bungie would consider it a failure but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people whom already bought a ton of silver. I already made my decision: If they start to sell those consumables, I'll stop playing Destiny. I'm fine with dances, shaders or emblems but increased drop chances are a step too far.

            • The really worrying items there are the class specific starter packs and the various lights for the raid that increase drop rates, thing is I don't mind paying for raids, I am quite happy to pay for DLC, as long as I get my playtime out of it I really don't mind, tbh prior to TTK I thought the price was over the odds but upon release I was pleasantly surprised and happy to pay the fee, (that isn't to say I am impressed with how non dlc owners have been treated.) This move to micro transactions as has been said is a slippery slope, to the point the database already shows items tied to progression, in other words pay to win. I don't think anybody minds paying for new emotes especially at their current pricing, however as soon as it becomes apparent to everyone your progression past 300 is based completely on the drops you get from the raid, and that those drops have been tweaked in order to "encourage" you to buy the better drop rate consumable, we will once again be in Backlash central. I could be wrong could just be a drop you get for playing, regardless the community should make it clear linking progression to real money consumables is not the way forward for Destiny.

                • I'm so sick of this argument lol like people need to just stfu both sides I'm tired of hearing people say "see I told you micro transactions were bad" then the other side saying shit like "they'll never make it to where you have to pay for weapons or armor" I'm just tired of it lol I personally hate any micro transactions in any capacity but I still buy things in my favorite games because I love to play them. But yeah people need to stop whining on both sides of the argument

                    • How in any way would this ruin the game , it blows my mind how small minded you people really are. Will I be able to buy more attack for my gun? NO. Will I be able to buy a 330 ghorn? NO. Will I be able to buy some pvp skill? NO So in what way does it break or wreck the current game? In no way it makes me better than you or make me more OP than you. Grow up children.

                      • The emotes is a test from Bungie; Will people open their wallets for useless ingame items, if yes, people will throw money at us for guns and armor. I'm fine with emotes, or spaceships (ships are also useless in Dextiny, they are a loading screen). If(when) they put consumables and equipment on there, I'm gone. Doesn't matter I do love the game, it's been the only thing I've played the past year... Why am I so certain they will do this you ask? Simple, they don't put the time and effort in to develop a new currency and a store system to just sell useless crap, they have a well thought out plan in place which leads to $$$.

                      • I hate it, even as a strictly cosmetic thing honestly. It ruins the integrity of the game. When I see a character with their store bought emotes, I don't get to think " oh that's awesome, I wonder how they got it." Or I don't get to be impressed by how they accomplished something. I just know that they opened their wallet. How is that even remotely cool or a desirable trait to have in a game?
