Title says it all. The chaperone needs its range buffed by 3x or 5x. Sexy gun but it isn't worth exotic slot...for now. >.>
Edit: Just wanted to point out cause people arn't understanding that this shotgun shoots SLUG ROUNDS. They are a single shot 12 gauge. They do not shoot a scatter shot spread that everyone is familiar with.
Edit: Ok, so I have seen ALOT of disagreements and that's fine, your opinion. I have also seen some people agree with me. Although I have also seen intelligent responses and came up with ideas to balence the gun so that most of us can be happy. There will be haters still gunna hate.
Ok lets get started! First we are gunna discuss the range. So this thing shoots slug rounds and obviously they are the saddest excuse of slug rounds I have ever seen in a game. So it should definitely get a range buff. Maybe a 2.5x-3x range buff is perhaps good enough, especially with it's precision kill perk activating. This would also make the Chaperone more reliable in PvE as well. So no longer having to deal with a goblin on solar burn, only taking 54 damage from 10 feet away. (Which is ridicules!)
Now for you PvP savvy players. So with this range buff, it will allow players to get more skilled long range headshot kills at a distance. Which would make sense cause it shoots freaking slug rounds AND this gun is meant for those precise killers out there. Plus with this range buff, it will allow you to compete against fusion rifles and side arms a bit easier. (That is if you can land that precision shot.) But this will still not allow you to out snipe a player with a sniper rifle or scout rifles. Most likely pulse rifles that have high stability and range too.
Now that we discussed range, let's talke about rate of fire. I can see why people would disagree with me because this gun shoots rediculesly fast for a lever action. That is the problem in my opinion. This gun was meant to reward a marksmen, not a player that runs around only going for close range gut shots. (Which if you are that player, why would you be using this gun and not a regular shotgun?) On top of it's rate of fire, it gets a increased rate of fire when it's precision kill ability activates! That is pretty scary!
So, to balence this out with it's range buff, it should get a reasonably slow rate of fire. I mean come on, why does a lever action shoot faster than most of the scout rifles? Anywho, with a slower rate of fire, it would put a close range player in a predicament if not careful with there shot. (Say for example, a fusion rifle.) Now this would reward more skillful players at longer ranges. Now when you do get the road born perk to activate, it should allow players to fire as fast as they used to be able to on the regular Chaperone.
One more thing I would like to discuss. The road born perk. Ok, so this perk also activates by a precision kill from your other weapons. Why? Honestly, I can't tell you if it's a bug or not. In my opinion, I don't think that's supposed to work. I know eye of the storm and life support have been activating too when it's not even on that said gun. I don't think that should work that way and it should be patched honestly. :/ (Unless it's meant to work that way. A better explanation on the perk would be nice.)
So those are my thoughts on this whole thing. Sorry that it is much longer but I honestly didn't expect this thread to get this many comments! Also, apologies if I can't reply to all of you. (I am trying!)
If you agree, please leave a like or a bump would be most appreciated too. :) If you do disagree, then I am willing to hear your thoughts on the Chaperone. I hope Bungie ends up reading this thread and considers these changes!
Thankyou!

2 RepliesI fully agree. I would like to see a one shot anywhere within regular buck shot range, though. Should be able to compete w/ other shotguns. KSG from BO2 is a good example of this. Rewards precision shooting from afar, but can 1 shot up close.
-
1 ReplyIt has more range then a pre-nerf felwinters if you get a crit shot so gg scrub
-
From what I've seen its ok
-
2 RepliesGive it 6 or so months it may get a mention. Probably not though.

-
That gun would have more range than some auto rifles if they buffed the range.
-
16 RepliesHow does someone write a title like this in 2015 and think it's okay? Every day I see people use this anomalous construction and I can't believe there are this many octogenarians on the internet posting from their rocking chairs on their porches in West Virginia. The Chaperone needs to be reworked.

2 RepliesWho remembers the KSG in Black Ops 2? That was an amazing slug firing shotgun! Unfortunately we all know if the Chaperone was anything like that people would flip out in Destiny.
-
1 ReplyI was hoping it would be more like the slug shotgun from COD damn thing was a sniper if you where worthy to wield it. I know its not COD just saying i hoped for something similar
-
8 RepliesUsed it for a good few hours today. I think it overall works great. (could use a slight base range buff) The main issue really is that standard shotguns are just well...better. All high imapact shotguns can almost have that lethality range without having to hit for the head. If bungie removed shotpackage and range finder it would be a more appealing and worthwhile exotic.

3 RepliesNo, no more range. Enough range, stop it.
-
4 RepliesNeeds more impact, not range.
-
Picked my Chaperone up yesterday. I love it. Range would make it even more beasty so I'm all for that.
-
that shotgun has sniped me so no thank you
-
1 ReplyI think what it needs in my opinion it's a little more of impact
-
1 ReplyRange is OK. one shot ability to the body in PvP seems absent to me (admittedly from limited testing).
-
I agree it needs a range buff for sure.
-
2 RepliesIn my opinion the range and damage should go up but the fire rate should go way down. It's supposed to be a precision weapon.
-
2 RepliesRange buff and one shot body
-
5 RepliesFor everyone saying no you're fůcking idiots. Slugs travel anywhere from 150-400 feet. Not 2-4 yards.
-
1 ReplyIt's so satisfying to get head shots in Crucible though...
-
1 ReplyGive it full auto.
-
1 ReplyIf they buffed the range, they would have to lower the damage.

4 RepliesEdited by Kayeene: 10/6/2015 7:07:15 PMSlugs were designed for big game hunting. Its effective range is 100yds or so, when I read about the chaperone I assumed it would have more range than regular pellet shotguns, but when I got it, its range is crap. So It went staight to my vault. And off topic.. Some weapons are non sensical in this game. And they keep nerfing good weapons instead of buffing the rest. Its the future, you can travel through cosmos, come on!. Hand cannons should be effective at a longer range, as the chaperone. I like using hand cannons and snipers, but hc are not fun to use anymore. Something feels off. I tryed to run pulse rifles but, they feel boring to me. These guys are killing the appeal of weapons. I agree that not everyone should clutch on one weapon or two. But instead of nerffing them they should be buffing the rest. Just my opinion. Sorry for the long post

3 RepliesYeah, if it's a slug shot, it should have some range, similar to the reforging for more range in HoW
