Hey there, how's it going? First off, as someone who considers himself as a vet of Destiny but not an elite player, I have to say, I stand in amazement at some of the things you guys can do. Really I do. Single handedly taking down Trials while carrying 2 other people? Wow. Soloing Crota back when it was cool? Amazing. Going Chuck Norris on the game and beating it with just your fists? Unthinkable. You really do incredible things and when I'm a witness in it...it's hard sometimes to stay in the game because I want to just watch how you own Destiny like Neo owns The Matrix :)
In all sincerity, it is amazing the things you do and as a veteran Destiny player who handles himself fine but isn't elite, It's a joy to watch. The thing is though, I am trying to get better too. Having a full time job and family and whatnot means I have to balance priorities out quite a bit. It's bad enough I've had one too many sleep deprived nights so I can fit everything in, but as a result I am a few steps behind you. I accept it. Thing is though, I want to be as good as you someday. I don't want to be carried...I want to learn...get better...so I can help others and maybe even someday help you.
The problem is though, sometimes being elite means you lose patience with the rest of the destiny world because we're not destroying the game like you. I can imagine that can be frustrating because it slows you down. Knowing you can travel 80mphs in a game where many of the players are going 50-60 can be a strain. The thing is though, there's an awesome opportunity you have here where you can make the community better: you can teach us. you can be patient with us. You can help us see things the way you do. Doing this accomplishes several objectives. 1) you make us better so you can get things done quicker when you do need help. 2) We get better and can take on new challenges we never thought we could. 3) Most importantly the community gets friendlier because we're paying it forward...helping each other.
When we don't do that.....when we say "I'm carrying the team". "You guys suck". "Get good". If you think about it...it accomplishes nothing. All it does is separate us where players call you names/expletives and you call us names as a result. The only result is a divisive community. The social experience is the heart of the Destiny universe and attitude is everything. We don't need to create lines breaking off those connections, do we?
So...if you want us to 'get good'....show us. Teach us....be patient with us and, most importantly. ENCOURAGE us. That's paying it forward and that is the key to finding more like yourselves. You never know....by following that method someday we may be able to HELP you. To teach you a trick that we caught on. It's a win win. YES, it does mean we have to listen too. Not rage. Not give up. Practice. We have to do our end of the bargain. I guarantee you though there are many of us that DONT want carried. We want to accomplish. Achieve.
For the record, I know many elite players who DO everything they can to help and to you I tip my hat! Thanks for helping me see things the way you do. If you don't though....all I'm doing is encouraging you to reconsider your strategy. You still are amazing and this isn't an open letter to make you feel bad...but instead to see perspective. Nothing more. I will always have your back if you ever try to find some way possible to solo Kings Raid (sorry, I can't see how though lol but I will watch). I will celebrate with you. Be in awe....and give you the props you rightly deserve.
A little kindness goes a long way and helps everyone. Just something to consider.

1 ReplyFirstly I want to thank you for your approach and the well thought out ideas behind it. I am like you, full time + job, family, plenty of late nights or rather falling asleep in the early morning. By your description I would be elite, although I don't consider myself elite, I'm not going to go into detail but I have soloed most of this game, move at 80mph and what not, and I enjoyed helping the community when I could through vault, Crota, and skolas. That being said as it stands I am simply not prepared at this point to help the community through the Kings fall raid, while I am comfortable running it with my team that is because I trust them, I trust their skills and abilities, I trust their judgement and I trust them to call out when they need assistance or when they can assist. Kings fall calls for damn close to perfect cohesion and communication and I simply cannot expect that from my experiences with lfg or the forums. while I would love to help I, like you, don't have a lot of time to spend hand holding through this raid and at this point I just want to get through it and get it done with for the week so I can focus on other things in game and In life which is ultimately more important. Im not trying to be elitist nor do I want to be considered such I merely wanted to add a different perspective for you to consider as to why some of the "elite players" won't help and it's not because we don't want to its because we can't devote the time at this point. Again I thank you for your well thought out post and I sincerely hope you don't consider me an elitist bastard because of my response.

I was and still am in the same boat. Both Auramage Ryelle and Bearlee Dragon have been my Guardian angels and consider them both 'elite' and 'gods', though they will flatly denied it. as is rest of the clan I am so proud to be member of. I don't have any of the expansion packs, nor TTK, but they still help me out with loot runs and missions (though I am very envious of those super cool looking level 40 light swords)

1 Replywell said. (note, that within year1 of destiny i needed the help of some 'nice' elite players. and still by no means am i a 'god'). within my clan, we prefer new players (it can be hard teaching someone who 'knows how this all works') the way i see it, if you teach them then you know what they can handle. if they fail it might just be a bad run?, or you may have (partialy) failed to teach them?. when i see a new-comer make a mistake, i usualy have a bit of a laugh and think to myself 'yea i remember that' (we've probly all done this at some stage). if any-one needs help on xbox360 msg me, ill help if i can.

3 RepliesNicely put. I think the way you treat people in-game reflects your character irl. You can't separate the two. There are great players out there going out of their way to help make others better players. Also, I see lots of big ego's down there in the comments. God help the person who thinks being better at a video game than most is something to gloat about.

1 ReplyI agree. I am behind on TTK but as for year one I was always helping people out. I ran sword for crota relic in VOG helped people through both etc. Now that people are teaching me I know how helpful it is. It's also good to involve yourself in a nice community. I have one of my own with roughly 10 very active people in it that help each other out. Not to mention clan alliances and what not. It's amazing how much friends can be mentors.

Edited by SurosToDaNoggin: 10/5/2015 3:23:55 PMThank you for your candor. It's nice to not only be called an elitist when your above 300 light some of us are decent human beings lol.

6 RepliesNice post, gotta admit, I get really impatient when I have to solo heroics or carry a pvp team by myself. It's hard, dull and it makes me lose a lot of time! I know everyone cant be gods, but Damn! O.08 ratio, really? In raids, I will help everyone, teach them the techniques, be patient cause I know it'll take some time. But heroics and pvp... Damn its hard on my nerves

2 RepliesThanks man! I teach players on Xbox 360 how to become good at crucible, iron banner, trials of osiris, how to run all 3 raids, and Skolas. Pm me on 360 if you need to learn anything!

3 RepliesEdited by bakerboy32: 10/5/2015 1:35:02 PMThat post went in a completely different direction than I was expecting! Was expecting a rage fuelled rant. I would say I'm pretty good at PVE, soloed Crota with only the khvostov equipped once, but I'm usually pretty patient and helpful with others and if something is a team effort I'm usually the first to tell everyone well done.

2 RepliesThis post is important! I have a few people on my Friends list that need to see this...

3 RepliesI appreciate your candor. Someone needed to make this statement a long time ago. I would have, but, they don't care and I don't like arrogance! Hope someone hears it and stops being that way, but, it won't happen. You see, most like that have only a game to brag about, so this is their Game of Thrones! Anyway, there is always hope...

1 ReplyIm right there in the same boat with you. Hardest thing for me is to find the right time for doing the new raid. Its usually like this: I get invited to a raid.. I dont have time to play. I have time to play, there are no raid groups going on at the moment. So in the end I get to try the new raid maybe once in 2 weeks.

4 RepliesMy clan (Vicious Vendetta) has an elite group, and they are those awesome rare people that can do all those amazing things but they are actually willing to take the time and teach anyone who wants to learn. We are on ps4 but if you'd be interested in joining check us out and apply to join if you want.
