Hey there, Community.
At Bungie, we’re committed to making our website a safe, well-lit place for the community. As the engaged innkeepers of Bungie.net, we’ve learned that accountability is a great ingredient in the recipe for a healthy community. When a user has some personal investment associated with their account, they’re more likely to take pride in the way they communicate with other people.
Since its inception and throughout various evolutions, Bungie.net has served a community that shares a game. The game (Destiny, for example) is the thing we all have in common – the unifying element that brings us together in the first place. In order to ensure that the end-users who are accessing the public forums on Bungie.net have a greater interest in the quality of the conversation, we’re going to require that each account be linked to a Guardian with some player history. At current, that includes more than 99% of our active community.
Bungie.net accounts are free, easy to make, and easy to link to your playable character. Your access to the public forums is tied to your Guardian, but your account can still be used to enjoy many of the free social features that we provide. If you’re not playing Destiny, you’ll still have access to Private Groups.
If you’re a new user who is seeking support from us on the #Help forum, you can find some instructions on how to create and link an account here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12130
If you need assistance with creating your account, let us know here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13633
It is our hope that you’ll enjoy a long stay in our online home. Throw down some roots. Make some friends. Play some games. Be excellent to each other.
DeeJ, out.

@DeeJ can you confirm if the Sleepers Simulate is AT LEAST in this version of destiny and is obtainable? I'm not asking how to get it, but if solving this riddle if we can actually get it.

9 RepliesEdited by Space Jesus: 10/2/2015 6:02:58 AMWhat about the players who have supported you for years? What about the people who have had great times on this site? What about the people who have made friends on this site? All of this was just given a big f*ck you and all of this because these people don't want to buy your game. What happened to you guys? The Bungie I remembered actually cared about their fanbase and what they thought. The only thing you guys want now is money, money, and more money. I have played all your halo games from when it started in Halo: CE to Halo Reach and there is countless more who have as well. Your pathetic. Ban me all you want. See if I care. I'm willing to stand up for an old community that is one of the only good communities left. P.S: I just want you to keep in mind that you possibly wouldn't be here if it wasn't for these people. These people are the ones that have supported you and loved you. Sincerely, An old Bungie player

2 RepliesIt may be 1% of people with accounts on here, but it's much more than 1% of active accounts on here. This is ridiculous, what would it take to get this decision reversed?
-
1 ReplyThanks for the info Deej but can I just ask why this is being done? I mean it's a really strange requirement. It has me scratching my head as to the logic behind it. Bungie has other games out there, some of which are only around 2 to 6 years old. And this is Bungie's official one and only website (as far as I know). Why make owning Destiny specifically a requirement to participate on the forums? Bungie.net has been around far longer than Destiny. I thought locking people out of the vanilla content unless they buy TTK was a crazy move. What is going on with you guys over at Bungie?

Having been here since 2009 it's very easy to see what a huge shift has taken place in Bungie's practices. They went from being one of the industry's most beloved developers to being greedy monsters. I'm not going to sit here and say "It's all about the money now" because as a business their primary goal has always been to make money. But they knew how to do it back then. Interacting with the community. Being cool with great games and listening to feedback, allowing discussion and criticism to happen. Now it's "give us money or shut up."

5 RepliesBump to promote discussion.

Bungie confirmed butthurt about losing the rights to halo. Nobody gives a shit about Destiny. The majority of users I see are from the halo era. Nice of Bungie to shit on long term members like they did Marty. Well done Bungie, you suck.

2 RepliesEdited by Ahhsenberg: 10/1/2015 1:47:33 PMIf you were committed to making Bnet a safe place, you'd have more moderation (not to mention an improved system for it) and a heavier hand on forum policies. Remember your old website? The one that had such things for its time? I didn't see you go to such lengths to keep that website safe; could it be because what systems it had actually worked?! You guys are concentrating on the wrong things. It's not alternate accounts that are the issue here... it's the people. If you don't have the appropriate systems in place, people won't change. Oh, by the way, if you want people to have personal investment in their account and to care more about quality posting, maybe you should bring titles back? Look at that! *points at screen* Another thing from the old website that worked! Instead of making it harder to participate in the forums, make it more rewarding. People care about having flashy things to show off their accomplishments (as you know by now with Destiny). If you encourage good behavior with the requirements to gain titles and take little Timmy's title away when he acts out, he'll learn to conform to the rules. But why am I saying all of this? You guys should know such things already. It's been years and nothing you've done has changed anything for the better. Please, just bring back the things that worked. This "policy" is just going to alienate what's left of your older fan base and drive away users who do care about quality that are in that 1%.

5 RepliesYou know what? I'm happy there's places like HaloWaypoint.com for me to go talk to other halo gamers cause what bungie is doing is essentially kicking them out. It's like an old friend comes to you needing help and you are being dicks cause your new GF faked her pregnancy to get your attention and now you are HER bitch. Result/moral of story: Bungie are Backstabbers

2 RepliesThey want to get rid of Offtopic without saying it outright.

I'm so glad this got downvoted to hell. Way to go everyone!

Cough cough- money hungry -cough cough

1 ReplyWhy is this unpinned after a couple days? Don't they want anyone to see it?
-
No, no this is not ok
-
2 RepliesEdited by Divine Thunder2: 10/1/2015 2:42:02 AMMan, Bungie.net sure is revolutionary these days, being the first ever "pay to post" website model ever!

Hey. Deej. I am from The Flood and we are a community started in 2002. Don't bring an end to us.

3 RepliesEdited by Spooter: 10/3/2015 10:49:40 AMThis reminded me that there is still no Dark Theme, even after close to three damn years. Bungie and webteam, you guys are utter failures as community managers. Going through with this will make people utterly despise you, and I myself will be leaving if that happens.
-
1 ReplyYou could let us stay in OffTopic, I mean sure I'm safe but I'll be losing a lot of friends. This is genocide and you know it, just stop anyone without an account going into the Destiny forums. Pls. No DeeJ, do it while I still have respect for you. Pls.
-
This is basically a huge middle finger to the off-topic users that have been using your forums for years since Halo. I don't know what the hell is going on over at Bungie but you shit bags are ruining yourselves.
-
1 ReplyIm from offtopic and about 20 percent of my community is old users. What the -blam!-.

4 Replies"So you've been here since the beginning, supporting and building the community but didn't like our shit game? Well you can get the hell out, you filthy peasant! Now if you'll excuse me i have a certain Company's dick to milk, bye!" -Deej
-
3 RepliesSo, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a post warning that non-Destiny affiliated accounts are being shut down? For example, I made an account back when halo 3 was big, and didn't buy destiny. Does that mean my halo 3 account won't be accessible anymore?
-
1 ReplyEdited by Tlaloc___: 10/2/2015 1:59:59 AMYou unpin the thread, and neglect to mention it in the Weekly Update. Why? If you're going to piss on your community, don't try to look away and pretend it's rain.

2 RepliesEdited by M1Silencer: 10/1/2015 3:37:04 PMBreathe in... Bungie, if you're going to simply cater to your current fan base, and not the community that evolves between the individuals who play your game, can you at least stop calling it Bungie.net and rather some variation of [insert current game here].net. This way we know that there's no room for communities on this site who have no ties to your current game. Additionally, maybe if you guys change the name, we can finally stop bullshitting ourselves into thinking some remnant of the old Bungie remains. Sure you guys are named Bungie, you talk like them, albeit a bit more robotically, and you have some of the same people on the team, but you guys lost something between 2012 and 2014, or maybe you sold it off willingly, and whatever it was has left the old community unsatisfied with what you have become. This just seems like another link in the long chain of disappointing actions and questionable decisions made by the new Bungivision. I find it interesting that as your new game gets better it would seem like you as a company get worse. And exhale.
