Why Is Destiny So Hated?

IMO Destiny is the best game I've ever played. Gaming since 1986 on the old Atari 2600. But the experiences, excitement, fun and just sheer awesomeness that I've experienced continually over my 1300 hour plus time with Destiny is unlike anything I've played before. So what's with the hate? This is the ultimate FPS with literally unlimited gameplay and replay value. Is it just a lack of skill? Or sad pathetic trolls looking for some kind of social interaction because they are so toxic in the real world? Honest question. How could you hate this game?

  • Rng... Nothing but rng... For days. Also lack of coherent story. TTK may fix some things though!

  • Playing the same levels over and over again isn't unlimited content.

  • I don't hate destiny but I have many of issues with it but I'll mention: -grinding -a constant search for loot -RNG -being force to go to LFG/no matchmaking (mentioned because if you're used to instant action that can be a problem in destiny) -planned obsolescence of the gear you've spent hours to get. -multiplayer is very unbalanced and the wisest stuff they took like months to address. But with constantly changing guns it's likely it'll never be balanced. There's other things but I'm distracted. It's Sunday.

    • Because Destiny has mastered the Art of selling you a full game that should have been only 60$..but they broke it up into DLC's and sold them for 20 for TDB,20 for HOW and 40 for TTK....;)

    • People came from CoD and other FPS games expecting another FPS game, not an MMO RPG. That's why. Don't let anyone tell you different because they're those people.

Because it is loved. The young boy picks on the girl for attention, because he's in love. That kind of thing. We want to see perfection achieved, and Bungie might have the power to do it. The ultimate FPS awaits. People are angry because Destiny has FLAWS. But you gotta admit, it IS quite a bit better now, yes?

      • Let's see. - Purposefully vague answers to yes or no questions. - Multiple reversals on what has been said...better known as outright lies. - The words, "playing the game as intended". - Chopping the base game into pieces and locking up parts that were included in the shipped product. - Price structures, ie, American vs. Overseas pricing for the Taken Wallet. - Blanket nerfing of entire classes of weapons as opposed to specific corrections. - Laggy PvP servers. - Vault space issues blamed on older consoles, but doubling said space. - Routinely crapping on the players. What took most players 100's of hours to get to (insert your level here), each crop of new players only takes a fraction to get to. Can't have anyone feeling left out now can we? - Nerfing weapons due to social inclusion? If the group decides to gate due to playing hours or mic usage, are they going to nerf those too? - Four little words; might, maybe, some and soon. They need to have the next OP weapon in honor of the most frequently uttered non-answers given in interviews. - Lack of communication. If they, meaning bungie, ever do answer, the bungie faithful flood the forums with messages of praise and rapture. Most companies make it a practice to actually communicate with their consumers. - Adjustments made to weapons on one side, PvP, seemingly without thought of what the consequences in PvE would be. This one goes both ways. - Shank and dreg burn weapons. Maybe there will be an acolyte or thrall burn on the next family of weapons. Why stop there, can anyone say goblin burn hand cannons? - Running story missions backward, and calling it new content. - "See that mountain? You can go there if you want to." Ummmm...nope. You can go as far as four seconds, then you die. I'm sure there are more things, but right now I can't think of them. I've got over two full months of playing time, and I probably wont be getting TTK. The game that was hyped and sold originally is nothing like what has evolved. I can hear the faithful...but all MMO's do that. In bungie's own words, it's not an MMO, so please save it. I really want this to be the game that I hoped it was going to be. The ten year journey where you could "Become Legend". That implies being able to take the gear and weapons with you, not just a few character features like hair color, sex and species of the guardian.

        • Don't hate it but there are things that could be better. They should have never done light lv to increase our lv. They could do a better job in the story presentation, don't hide it in the grimore cards on a web site. They don't have to change the way we lv up with every dlc. That just makes you feel like it was all for nothing. I don't feel like I'm getting any stronger in the game. If I shoot an enemy that is 10 lvs above me I do No damage. But if you do patrol and are 30 lvs above a dreg he can kill you in a few shots. These are just a few of the things that drive me crazy. I could go on and on but that would take forever to type out.

        • Because we know the game is exploiting our worst hoarding instincts by dangling that perfect engram drop just in front of us. Showing who got what loot at the end of a mission is a perfect way of making you think you just missed out on Gjallarhorn/Hawkmoon/Fourth Horseman etc. and making you hit that one-more-go button. And if you do get that awesome gun or armour piece, you may as well get out there again to level it up.... It's just about how much you object to being manipulated this much, and whether any of us can tell the difference between having fun and the spikes of excitement in among all the grinding. I think I'm still having fun.

Because the game is shit and has a few hours of content that people grind for hundreds of hours, no story, a terrible rng loot system and unbalanced PvP just to name a few. Edit: Also because Activision cut content from the game to sell as DLC and is a shady business model in general. If you want to see the true evil that is Bungievision look at the recently released info regarding the firing of Marty O'Donnell.

            • I'll sum it all up for you: Bungie was doing well and was loved by its fans when it was working on the Halo franchise. Ever since Bungie signed up with Activision there has been a lot of controversy over how they did/did not interfere with the creation of Destiny. The recent issue with Marty is just one such case, although he wasn't quite innocent either. I like the game, I respect the Developers and have nothing but love towards Bungie, yet I can't help have an ominous feeling as though Destiny will be the last "Magnum Opus" that they'll work on and somewhere in there is Activision playing an indefinite role behind it all.

-Terrible story. Basically a scavenger hunt from point A to Point B without any good explanation as to why we're are doing. -Massive plot holes. Honestly I should not have to go on their website to find out stuff that should be explained in the game. -Horrible replay value. The only replay value PVE has in Destiny is grinding and it gets so repetitive when doing bounties and other PVE activities that it sucks all the joy out of me. -Horrible balancing. The most disappointing thing for me about this game is Bungie's failure to balance weapons in PvP. Patch after patch and they don't seem to be able to get it right. -Terrible community. These forums are pretty self explanatory. -DLC. I don't hate DLC. I understand why companies do it. But Destiny is an example of what bad DLC is. When content is literally ripped from the main game you know they -blam!-ed up. -The reward system. Basically RNG is crap and the ease of obtaining Exotics pretty munch taints there rareness.

              • It's not necessarily the game itself. The people who actually complain about the game itself are just trying to see better implements in the future from the developer. What it really bulls down to is the underlying shit. -terrible, and I mean absolutely horrible communication. -being lied to. -the game being advertised as something it didn't really turn out to be. There are several other things I could go on about. But like I said, the biggest problem people typically have with this game is actually just the ethics and business from bungie themselves.

              • I wouldn't say it's my favorite game ever, but it isn't horrible like alot of people make it out to be. Iv'e had fun with it and will continue doing so, especially with TTK.

              • Destiny gets hate for the same reason the New England Patriots get tons of hate from fans of every other team, as did the 49ers, Cowboys, and Steelers in their respective dynasties. They are on top.
