So my son got a restriction today for backing out of matches in trials yesterday, and I grounded him from Destiny for a month. I know it is "just a video game", but cheating is cheating, and I will not tolerate it. The thing is he's pretty decent in crucible (way better than me), and he probably could've gone flawless with the right team. My ex wife doesn't understand it, but she backs my decision. He claims he didn't know, but we've had discussions about it before while doing random activities with myself and other clan members. What does the community think about this?

dumbest thing I have ever seen a parent punish their child for honestly..

3 RepliesBacking out is different than cheating you get a loss anyways for backing out of trials
-
Dam u str8 babygurl
-
its not cheating. its just wrong
-
Why are so any people dumb?! Backing out isn't cheating as 1. It's an ingame mechanic and 2. You don't win and receive a loss.
-
It teaches honesty, that's very good, but rough that he'll miss the first 2 weeks of taken king but if you had told him already, he knew what could happen. At least he wasn't lag switching
-
Good move. I would have done the same.
-
1 ReplyMake him do some much work he doesn't have time to play video games.
-
A respectable opinion, I hold the same when it comes to cheesing

As I expected when I was reading this, you have received the usual immature responses from the self entitled generation, and the "you are too tough" from the touchy feely crowd. More parenting with a strong hand like yours and the world might not be going to hell in a handbasket. You were absolutely correct.
-
Lol he's gonna miss the first 2 weeks of TTK XD
-
It is a game and life isn't fair your sun was desperate for something and you have to do what you have to do to win even if in the shittest of ways this all destiny trials will every be that is why people use thorn and TLW

1 ReplyBut the taken king come out in 2 weeks.

Good call.

I have 2 boys. While I agree accountability and consequences must be taught, imho the punishment doesn't fit the crime. If this incident was a one time occurrence, a month being grounded is very severe. A week of extra chores and no video games seems appropriate, imo. However, I don't know his circumstances and perhaps he has shown patterns of dishonest behavior on the past. Anyways, he's not my son and I trust his father knows best and is doing it for his own good.

Kids gotta learn morals somewhere. Good for you. A month is maybe a little long, but some punishment for cheating is fine

9 RepliesHow is it cheating to back out of a match?
-
I applaud you for what I consider good parenting. IMO a month seems excessive. I would go with a week for a first offense. But bravo nonetheless.
-
Lol, cheating is not ok. Good on ya Pops.

1 ReplyOh kno, did you dock your Yacht to ?

It gets the point across, even in a game cheating/backing out is wrong. Missing the release of TTK will be a bummer for him but once he can play again he will think twice about cheating...at least in the game. Id follow it up with a good talk about morales...hopefully it'll sink in. If not a good whooping also works >_<

Bro but taken king, nerf the punishment. We need all guardians.
-
Grounding is OP please nerf.
