So I recently watched a Destiny related video on YouTube and what I saw shocked me. Over the course of this 10-12 minute long video, the "host kept receiving these "donations" from random people watching the stream.
WHY?!
Why on earth would someone pay a guy who playing a video game? I was and still am in shock.
I don't get it, why would ANYONE donate any kind of money no matter how small to these guys playing this game?
I saw a donation as small as 2$ and one as large as 100$.
Someone explain this to me please.
EDIT: I'd just like to clarify something. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion and choices.
I just hope that people who donate money to streamers that live in a comfortable house, with furniture, a gaming console, streaming equipment, Internet services and food in their fridges also go and donate money to people/animals that are actually needy.
I hope you go and donate some money to charities and animal rescues organizations that will actually make the world a better place.
That's the point im really trying to make. I hope some people understand me.
EDIT 2: It completely slipped my mind to mention that most of these streamers are getting fat checks from YouTube because their videos constantly hit high view counts. So the whole they need the money to survive bit doesn't really apply.

Because people would rather mindlessly donate to someone they think is "working" than donate to someone that is actually in need
-
So they can the games they wanna see. Im guessing

Edited by Reeto 431: 8/28/2015 7:46:11 PMHey who cares if they make their money playing video games on live stream. Hell, I wish I woulda thought of the idea before anyone else if I knew it would become so popular. Besides, a lot of people spend their money on pointless stuff on the daily. So what makes this any different? And charities, well, a lot of people should donate to charities annually. But not everyone is so generous nowadays, unless you got loads of it
-
It's better worded as tipping. They're entertainers, and you tip them if you want to. Don't be ignorant
-
The point is to support the stream you like watching so that there stream can keep going and so the streamer can improve their content. But I get your point but most charities the money goes to the employees and not to those who actually need the money.

I don't even watch streams anyway i just can't watch someone playing video games.

7 RepliesI was showing my gf how ridiculous broman is and within for minutes of an archived stream he made over 200 dollars. For the record I don't think athletes should get paid the way they do nor actors nor "musicians". I think the "lonely people looking for friends" theory is spot on. People want to be mentioned in front of all his fans. People brag for some weird shit
-
1 ReplyI never understand why people watch streamers. I didn't buy the game to watch someone else play and if I ever needed to know how to do something I'll just YouTube it real quick. To each is own though.
-
I have never donated and never will when I can just watch them for free and comment how good they are. I watch while at work when I can't play the game so I can see new tips and tricks as well as have a good laugh every once in a while. Some people I think get way to much attention that don't do shit like broman but hey people will be people.

5 RepliesFunny fact. Some people seriously enjoy watching others do crap all. I once watched a guy do bakery kitchen work for about 4 whole minutes before I looked at the time... 12 minutes?! jesus! the views?... about 30,000?! Now that's free though. As for gamers, I think it's freaking painful to get "donations" for someone clearly not in need. "Payment" is more accurate. I'd never pay for something I can do free, myself, and to the same extent(so don't go all pro sports watching on me)'

Gothalion recently was given $2000 at once by one guy. Id do the same thing if I was financiallu gifted. I'd love to help streamers out but my poor ass can only follow. Can't even sub lol.

Yea! I was trying to find the first destiny livestream (first time on twitch [House of wolves]) and I found this guy talking about what "may be revealed" and hella people were giving him money. Then I saw this animation for a subscribe and I was like huh, then I looked down and you had to pay to subscribe! This is bullshit. That someone is playing a video game to make money and that other people count it as a job! Its a game, a fun game but still a game. Go play the game, dont watch him talk about what may be talked about by the people who will talk about what you can do, or watch him do, in a GAME. Bring it on h8ers.
-
Some people even get thousands in a single donation
-
10 RepliesHahaha people actually donate. Watching someone stream a game is dumb enough (why not just play it yourself) but I didn't know people actually gave them money!
-
No reason is good enough. I'd have to be shilling to say I respect my viewers for sending me money to play games between their work shifts.
-
If it bugs you this much, pursue litigation against it. Far more effective than writing clickhate... err, clickbait.
-
It's strange for sure. But people get tipped in this world for a lot less...
-
I wonder if it's tax deductible...
-
Some streamers will say all donations will go to a charity but most just do it for a job.
-
10 RepliesEver been to a football game?
-
4 RepliesDo you watch tv? Do you listen to music? Do you pay for any kind of entertainment?
-
Someone donated $2000 to gothalion this month. What the actual -blam!-
-
1 ReplyI smell a cheep bastard with no manners in this thread.
-
Because they're entertaining. It's not compulsory, you can watch for free. If you like them, you can tip them...
-
Twitch is virtual panhandling. They might as well make signs that say "will play video games for food"
-
It's a donation, what's the problem of supporting your favorite streamer? I don't watch twitch so I don't do it but I don't see a problem with It
