So I recently watched a Destiny related video on YouTube and what I saw shocked me. Over the course of this 10-12 minute long video, the "host kept receiving these "donations" from random people watching the stream.
WHY?!
Why on earth would someone pay a guy who playing a video game? I was and still am in shock.
I don't get it, why would ANYONE donate any kind of money no matter how small to these guys playing this game?
I saw a donation as small as 2$ and one as large as 100$.
Someone explain this to me please.
EDIT: I'd just like to clarify something. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion and choices.
I just hope that people who donate money to streamers that live in a comfortable house, with furniture, a gaming console, streaming equipment, Internet services and food in their fridges also go and donate money to people/animals that are actually needy.
I hope you go and donate some money to charities and animal rescues organizations that will actually make the world a better place.
That's the point im really trying to make. I hope some people understand me.
EDIT 2: It completely slipped my mind to mention that most of these streamers are getting fat checks from YouTube because their videos constantly hit high view counts. So the whole they need the money to survive bit doesn't really apply.

So I can't donate to a streamer who streams for a charity foundation? Screw you too then.
-
The same reason sports stars and film stars get paid, it's entertainment.
-
why pay for subscription to watch your favorite team?
-
9 RepliesIt's comparable to a street performance. You can watch and enjoy it, but you're not obligated to pay to see it. However, some people will decide that they enjoy what they do and will reward them. Their money, their call. Not a huge deal to me.
-
Because 2/3 of the U.S. Is mentally challenged And like to pay peopled to not contribute to society
-
Burrito loves you.
-
Because you can't donate to golf Which it is the equivalent of watching
-
be aware the those streamers " trying to scam money on trade of taking you flawlessly on trials" screw those primates!
-
The real question is why do people find them entertaining? I watched a "top streamer" once and I couldn't handle the zoo that was.
-
Cause they like giving away mom and dad's money.
-
It's like tipping a waiter. Also, you tubers don't get LOADS of money unless they're really famous.

3 RepliesIt's no different than the expendable income that you and nearly every other American spends on stuff we want and entertainment. Do you also hang out on the cable forums kicking people in the teeth for buying that without donating to charity, or better yet, professional sport contests, hang out by the entry gate blowing people shit for watching a "game" rather than building house? Didn't think so. Get off your high horse. If watching/supporting streamers isn't your thing, no problem, no need to come in all holder-than-thou to those that do. By supporting the channel that they enjoy it ensures the streamer/content creator can afford to continue to provide the entertainment that they prefer. No different than buying a console/video game and those your supporting are giant corporations, not an individual making a living doing what we all wish we could. Drops mic....

I thought Amish people did not play on consoles ? It's a new world
-
Eh....some people are so desperate for attention from anyone...
-
Not giving a streamer something after hours and hours of play time is like going to a zoo that works on donations and not giving them any money. You tip your waiter for walking to your table 3 times yet you find it weird to tip a person that entertains you for hours? I don't understand what your asking.

4 RepliesAs a counter: Why do you care about what strangers do with their money?
-
2 RepliesYou're paying more money for this shit ass game that's less entertaining than they are. Stop. It's not your money. And if you really think charities use all donations to their respective cause you need to educate yourself, cause wool has been tightly pulled over your eyes. Stop bitching.
-
They get paid to sit down and play video games.. Not contributing to society, whereas there are some kids in need of food/other important supplies in other parts of the world
-
I'm guessing it's just when your feeling generous? my brother watches streams all the time (idk if he donates or not) but if to keep them going means giving them $5 every once in a while?i see why not if its that persons money, right?
the people that donate like $30+...yeah I don't know about them :/
-
I'll watch a stream every once in a while but I will never drop any money on it but I won't question what others do with their own money.
-
7 RepliesWhy do you pay for cable, Netflix, Hulu, or any of the other plethora of entertainment services? The streamers are entertaining. People like being entertained. Financial support increases the chances that entertainment will continue. How is this a difficult concept?

2 RepliesEdited by Stipple Alpha: 8/28/2015 10:21:34 PMIf I could play games and get paid for it ... Why not? If I enjoy watching someone play a game I like and play it well, or in a funny manner, or show me new methods to try, why not? I don't pay, but heck if it's fun to watch and you want the guy/gal to keep doing it, why not support them. (I think Mr Fruit is funny, for instance, and I'm in my 40s) There's a lot worse they could be spending it on. I do agree with the whole "subsistence first" thing ... you know, food, shelter, etc. But after that? I support a local animal rescue and my church, but some people aren't too much into charities, and you shouldn't judge them on that.

15 RepliesEdited by TuTToSHooTs : 8/28/2015 8:24:58 PMPpl who think watching someone play a game is entertaining NEED TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE MORE! That's shit entertainment in my opinion! Going to a baseball game is entertaining, going to eat out and enjoy the company your with, is entertaining! Not watching some nerd play games online...GET A LIFE !!! Asking for donations is so petty.... Its the same as a bum on the street corner asking for money. It's actually really sick if you think about it! Guess the ppl asking for donations have absolutely no respect for themselves

4 RepliesI mean, I wouldn't object to someone wanting to give me free money. Weather I'm playing games live or not.
Never look a gift horse in the mouth, I always say.

You know what else I say? It caint hoit.
1 ReplyFun fact people are idiots and give away their money. This fact is amplified many times over if the person receiving the money is female and the person giving the money is a sheltered guy with no gf
