You get to level 40 the exact same way you get to level 20 now. I plan on getting to level 40 the first day. Light level will still exist, but it will be a different animal than it currently is. Rather than what armor you wear affecting your level (and therefore incredibly affecting your efficacy in battle), your level will be gained purely through exp. Light level will just be a measure of your current weapons and armor setup and will give you a general idea of how well you're going to do in a given situation. How we level has been out for a while now. How did you miss that?

Just like EVERY OTHER DLC for this game you have to beat the story before accessing END-GAME content (hence why it's called END-GAME, because you can't access until you... *puts on aviators*... END THE GAME!). Like every other activity, as well, you will likely be able to access content 3 levels below the minimum level (so to get into the nightfall you will actually need to be 37, which if you're 34 right now isn't that big of a leap, esp. if you've been stockpiling exp packets). I plan on getting all my chars to level 40 on day one anyway so this isn't a big deal in the slightest. If you aren't sure on how to get to level 40 on day one (and obviously this all theoretical since we haven't played TTK yet), you will need 10 5K bounties (can replace 1 for the 10k IB bounty if you wish/can) and then start doing a public event every day for each char and saving the package. Also save your faction packages, and edge out daily event packs for faction packs as the come (I think factions give you 5K versus daily events giving you 2.5K). so that's 20 2.5K - 5K packages, 10 5K bounties (or 9 5K and 1 10K), plus the focused light for 50% extra xp, plus the exotic class item if you choose to get that dlc (I work for a living and I am choosing to buy it, I am 23 and my parents do not fund my gaming). Unlock your new subclass, then use the focus light and turn in your bounties. Then head to the tower and open your packages. If that doesn't get you to level 40, it'll get you close enough to get there with the rest of the story content (i.e. quests, bounties, NF, weekly heroic list, etc.).

Yes. It will take me many a months to attain what is know as 6 more levels than I have now.

Were you able to jump right into a nightfall the day you bought the game? SMH...

You will be going from level 20 to 40. Not Light Level 34 to Light Level 40.
