It is a Shared World Shoot To Loot FPS... You know, like Borderlands... The game everyone was comparing Destiny to when it first came out.
Sure, Destiny has MMO properties but it is not an MMO.
And just because Destiny has classes, strikes and raids is completely irrelevent to what makes an MMO an actual MMO.
By that logic a single player game could have those things and somehow be an MMO... Sorry, thats just not how it works.
Even a year ago when people were asking Bungie Devs what the game was they infact said "It is not an MMO"
An MMO is a game where 30-180 people can be in one place at the same time and literally 1000's throughout the shared gaming map.
Examples are FF:Realm Reborn, World Of Warcraft or even Runescape.
Take care, guys.

1 ReplyMMO: Massive Multiplayer Online game Pretty sure its an mmo
-
1 ReplyThe only difference is that there can only hold a about 16 people Rather than hundreds. Everything else is the same. It is pretty close to an mmo. Close enough to call it one.
-
I never was one for crowds.
-
The point of this being? The actual classification of genre that Destiny fits into is what's irrelevant. Who cares? If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it may as well be a -blam!-ing duck.
-
Dev Team : "We are making on MMO"! Luke : "NOOOO...shared world shooter"! Dv Team : "WTF"! Luke : "If we call it an MMO they will know we plan on charging out the -blam- for it. If we deny the MMO label and say it only has MMO elements , we can sucker so many more people"!

Edited by Hero We Need: 9/15/2015 10:57:42 AMA shared world shoot to loot FPS. Is that the scientific term? And you say that's what borderlands is? Wrong. Borderlands is all solo/coop. This game is 100% multiplayer. Also this game is a ARPG/FPS Multiplayer, not a shared world shoot to loot or whatever retard term you came up with. Lol. This game doesn't even have shared loot?

It really doesn't matter what you call it. The MMO comparison is valid when it comes to payment structure, but I agree it's less apt in other regards. I fail to see why its so important to have the game shoehorned into a category.

2 RepliesMMO=Money Making Opportunity.....at least that's what Activision would call it.
-
Why are you so excited about this? What if people call it abc123 instead of mmo, fps, whatever? It's still the same game...
-
5 RepliesIt's technically a MMO due to the amount of players and thanks to it being online. You know MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online, right? Technically a MMO.
-
2 RepliesEdited by malty: 9/15/2015 6:09:25 AMIt actually is

In other news the sun will shine today.

Regardless of what anyone says its supposed to be an MMO, so jog on I guess.
-
No one, not even Bungie, ever called Destiny an MMO. So your point is???
-
Stop trying to prove something and just enjoy the game.
-
It's like a mini mall
-
It has factors you could classify as like MMO though
-
True, it trys so hard to be tho! xD
-
14 RepliesYes, it is.

Its diablo 3 with guns. Im glad its not an mmo. Theres enough problems without fetch quests and 12 week rep grinds
-
2 RepliesIt's a sub genre of MMO just like FPS and TPS are sub genres of "Shooter"
-
It's a Semi-MMO. Can we move on please? My order at Weenie Hut Jrs was just called.
