I agree excess Cruxes are irritating, unless you want multiple Necrochasms for some strange reason, but I don't know if exotic shards are the answer. Historically I've had bad luck with RNG bestowing exotics upon me, but I've still managed to fully ascend every exotic in the game with 20 exotic shards to spare. Now the shards have no purpose along with my spare couple of Cruxes...
