I just don't understand how people are missing the point of this. I see thread after thread complaining about how there is nothing wrong with Hand Cannons.
No gun is meant to be the answer for everything. There has to be an upside and there has to be a downside.
EVERY gun in the game has an upside and a downside.
- Shotguns hit harder than god, but have no range
- Fusion rifles don't hit as hard, but have a much longer range
- Scout rifles have great range and accuracy, but suck in Close Quarters and a low fire rate
- Auto Rifles have a high fire rate and are good in close to medium range, but have lower damage, lower range and lower accuracy.
- Machine guns can be used in a wider variety of situations than the rocket launcher and carry far more rounds, but don't have as much burst damage.
- Rocket launchers have the fire and forget mentality combined with high burst damage, but a narrower amount of proper use and low ammo supply.
- Sniper Rifles hit hard and have ridiculous range, but are only useful when the enemy in far enough away.
Meanwhile the hand cannon has almost NO downside at the moment when compared to the other primaries.
- Hits harder than the Scout rifle and still has decent range
- Does more damage per clip than almost any auto rifle in the game
- Pulse rifles are the only primary that comes close to overtaking the Handcannon in terms of usefulness.
In fact the Pulse Rifle is arguably the most balanced gun in the game. It fulfills its role as the middle of the road option perfectly at the moment.
- They fire quickly, but accurately though not as quickly as an auto rifle and not as accurately as a scout rifle.
- The hit harder than auto rifles, but not as hard as most handcannons and scout rifles
- They have more range than Auto rifles, but not as much as scout rifles.
The Pulse Rifles as it stands is the picture of what Bungie wants the other guns to be. It fulfills its role perfectly and is not the answer for everything. It has upside and it has downside.
BUT
The upside is not so ridiculously high that it rises above what it was meant to be. At the same time the downsides are not so bad that they ruin the gun completely.
That is where Hand Cannons have gone wrong and what Bungie is going to be trying to fix. Currently they are outperforming what they were originally intended to be. The upside of the Hand Cannon is so high at the moment that it automatically makes it the go to gun for almost any situation. Meanwhile the downsides are almost nonexistent or completely inconsequential when compared to the upside.
TL;DR Hand Cannons need to be and will be nerfed in order to properly balance them in relation to the other weapons in the game. No amount of complaining or whining will change that.
EDIT: Yes I know there is a nerf coming. Yes I know what changes are on the way. This is a thread about explaining WHY those changes are on the way and is directed at the idiots who keep making the "*Insert weapon here* doesn't need to be nerfed" threads

Edited by ProStannerX: 9/8/2015 10:41:13 AMIt's obvious that the range/damage need to be nerfed any logical person should see that. But I don't know how all the mechanics work for this game. Can they not adjust the damage with how far the shooter Is?
-
I don't think hand cannons need a mag nerf though, I'm fine with the range nerf though.
-
They can nerf TLW and Thorn into the dirt. Leave the rest alone. And if they reduce the mag size, isn't that going to play into the luck in the chamber/last round people's hands?

Legendary handcannons are not OP. It's the exotics

1 ReplyHand cannons should deal less damage than scouts & be easier to handle - this whole if I shoot you at 10 yards vs 30 yards you take less damage is a load of crap - accuracy should be affected, not damage - same for every weapon - I love playing this game but the way they balance shit makes no sense
-
Whoever has Fatebringer and votes for Hand Cannons to be nerfed should dismantle Fatebringer

Edited by Channing Tatyum: 8/12/2015 10:45:34 PMyep my hand cannon is too powerful, my gf loves it tho!

It was unwanted and unneeded. As is the most everything Bungle does as of late.

can we please wait until the 2.0 handcannon nerf before we cry for yet another nerf?? ~Le Soul Gummy~

2 RepliesI can't wait until three months from now when all these posts are about the messenger and Nexhrochasm.

Try using a handcannon on skyshock while being shot at by any scout rifle.

13 RepliesNope no more nerfing. It's effecting the overall gameplay. Don't like getting killed??? Then learn to play the game. I personally suck and get killed all the time in pvp. But I don't blame it on my weapons. Humility is needed and a high does of it in your case. Personally think things should go back to the original way. Why? Cause appreciation of the real art of the game. You will always have someone complain who doesn't like the way it is. This is real life. Get over it. Wanna do better? Then do better and stop trying to ruin things for the other players.

Dude hand canons have 10-12 rounds. At least the good ones. You gotta make sure every shot count and be a headshot king. Pre TDB hand cannons were awesome. TDYK FB Lord High Fixer Red Hand I hope it's not another balance this for PvP and screw over PvE side. The crucible will never be balanced. Secondaries are a one hit kill, heavies are a one hit kill, supers are a one hit kill. Pretty much all of the maps are setup for medium to close range combat. People use the thorn and TLW because their cheap quick kills as well.

Everything except the magazine size nerf is warranted. Whenever I see gameplay of handcannon use, it's always them firing at the fastest possible rate, hardly seeing the reticle sights at all. What they're doing is basically trying to get lucky with their headshots instead of actually aiming, and they're rewarded for it too often. exotic handcannons are the greatest offenders of this with their bonus damage, minimizing the number of times you need to get lucky headshots to hit. The range and stability nerf will force them to actually pace themselves in order to get headshots.
-
So do you think people will actually try other weapons after this update ?

I agree bored of seeing The last word & Thorn in crucible, but hardly ever see the Hawkmoon there

2 Replies10% will hit the ground hard when Bungie pulls the crutches from under their arms. What does the dirt taste like, guys?

Bungee jump

1 ReplyHigh impact pulse rifles 2 burst if you place the shots right. I agree they should be balanced but not too much. They should have lower stability to make it harder to hit at long ranges. But u have to remember, it's a HAND CANNON. It's like the size of ur forearm and most likely uses 44 or 50 cal so... Thoughts?
