Well I read today as a lot of you have that "year one" gear and guns will not be upgradeable. If this is to be the case I will officially be done with this grind heavy game. So Bungie what was the point of me grinding 100's of hours of raids, Iron Banner, Trials, crucible and 100's of strikes just to be told all that time and work was worthless?!?! What was and will be the point of playing the old raids and even doing Prison of Elders? What was the point of adding Etheric Light if the gear will soon be trashed? What if I don't like the new guns and would prefer to use my favorite guns I've gotten so used to? Bungies always says they want our guardians to be a reflection of our play style and cosmetic choices but they always funnel us down one alley of possibility. I'm really upset to hear this and have been a loyal fan of the game since launch and have had a TON OF FUN playing it and was actually really looking forward to "year two" Destiny. But if with every new year we have to discard the weapons and armor we are so fond of then I am not playing anymore. It's a poor choice by Bungie and pretty much throws 100's of "year one" hours out the window. You fool me once shame on you, you fool me twice shame on me. I want you to convince me otherwise and help me see WHY I should buy The Taken King. *EDIT 4*: Thanks everyone for all your comments positive or negative. This was the first time I ever posted on here just because I felt so passionate about the way I felt. After talking to a lot of you on this thread I am slowly starting to see the other side of the story and also realizing many people feel the same way I do. At this point I am probably just going to wait it out and see what happens next with the game. Maybe it will be awesome, maybe not, only time will tell. Edit 3: To sum it all up ALL I AM SAYING is give the PLAYER'S CHOICE to choose whatever gear and guns they prefer using. Isn't that the reason they added Etheric Light so that everyone wouldn't be wearing Crota gear and using the same weapons? Edit 2: Everyone does realize that the House of Wolves DLC only came out 2 1/2 months ago and they gave us Etheric to upgrade weapons and gear...So all that grinding was so we could use our favorite guns for only 4 months while they hype the $hit out of TTK? Edit 1: So the #1 response from people is "Why would you want to use the same gun for 10 years". My answer to that is players choice and what does it matter to you what gun I prefer using? The game is to be played for fun and it's not fun to only use the guns "Bungie makes you use" for whatever year it currently is. I ALSO NEVER SAID I WOULDN'T USE THE NEW GUNS I just like to have options oh and a bigger vault to hold all my awesome guns.
