So do you believe? Before you answer consider this:
The universe is forever expanding at every moment since the beginning of time itself, and a rate that is absolutely astounding.
There are roughly 200 BILLION stars in our galaxy alone, and our star is actually very small compared to most stars in this universe. As far as we look there are more and more galaxies, I dont know the current number that we can see with our primitive technology, just know that there are at the very least 3000+ known galaxies.
Mars is said to have a climate just like earth is today, long ago, and possibly even venus too! So if this is true then 3/9 (pluto will always count for me :) planets in our solar system alone could have supported life.
The largest known star would take over 2000 years just to fly around with current technology if we were flying on the surface. That star is about 100 times bigger than the sun (cant remember the exact number). I think its safe to say that that star is a parent to at least 100 planets.
We are only 2000 years into human advancement, and the Catholic Church even held back knowledge for centuries, literally killing anyone that tried to suggest anything that would go against their beliefs. Don't believe me? Look it up, this went on for 700 years if I remember correctly.
If you would bring modern day technology back to people 2000 years ago just imagine people's reaction to it, I cant even fathom what their actions would be.
Now imagine a species that has been around for 10,000 years, they would be nothing short of incredibly amazing. 100,000 years, we dont even have a word to describe their intelligence, but instead of "theories", they would have facts, they would know so much that our brains couldn't even comprehend most of the information. 1,000,000 years? I guarantee you that they would have almost no limits, they could travel faster than the speed of light, whether it be by wormhole, or something impossible for us to even to imagine. And this universe is billions and billions of years old, they do exist, somewhere out there. With technology like that they could pick out and examine a speck of dust on our planet from their own homes, or whatever they would live in.
I'd bet my life that at least one alien species has been here, are still here, and were here even before we were.
Do you honestly think that we would be the only thing living in this universe? There is literally infinite space, do you truly believe that it is all only for us? A greedy, destructive, ignorant, forceful race? If that is what you believe I must say that I cannot respect your opinion, and I ask, no, I beg you to tell me why I am wrong. I'm not trying to come off as some kind of asshole, I just want to know how on earth you could possibly believe that?
This is a universe of infinite possibilities
Edit!
Oh wow, I'm surprised to see I got 500 replies on this thread! I guess I'll do my best to revive it and go for 1000!
Almost at 650 replies! Damn I'm glad people are this Interested in alien life!

Picture this, my friends: Aliens land on Earth in a super cool spaceship thing. Millions upon millions of people are crowded in the area waiting for the ramp to descend. It falls with a faint "pssssh" with ominous smoke trails wafting from the ramp (Like Star Wars lol). A lone alien steps forth from the mist. It glares at us with silent contempt before opening its mouth. The humans strain their ears to listen to the first words they've ever heard from another planet...
"Ayy lmao"
It is impossible that we are the only life in the universe. Scientists have found multiple planets that are capable of supporting life.

The universe is infinitely complex and is outside our ability to understand. We perceive 4 dimensions, and can only move freely in 3, and have only visited one other celestial body. so I'm positive that at least somewhere, in the universe, there is life in some form.

The universe is so big, there could be space battles happening right now

Teddy roosevelt killed them

I don't know, but you can find out at ratemypoo.com

If you consider the size of the universe and believe that this is the only planet in the entire universe with intelligent life, you're a moron

Edited by dahn2256: 9/12/2015 11:05:00 PMIt's possible there's other life, somewhere....... There is actually bacteria on Mars btw
-
I don't but I'm open to the idea that there just might be aliens
-
Depends what you consider an alien... I believe there is living bacteria and somewhat living entities living throughout the universe, but grey guys walking around, pissing out their fingers? Might be far fetched lol

Edited by Alpha: 9/12/2015 10:06:44 PMDon't know. But, There's a trillions of stars in universe, and trillions of planets. It is said that planet like earth are really rare, but the planets and stars so..i think somewhere else, it could be exist.

1 ReplyAlso the universe is expanding outwards increasing the distance between galaxies and everything else making it less likely that we will ever visit or be visited by extraterrestrial life.
-
2 RepliesI believe other life has existed in the universe, but because of the age; approx 13.8 billion years old. Any life (that can be seen as sentient or complex) would have either pre dated our existence and died out or is yet to come. The idea that humans (and we've only been around a few thousand years on the scale of things) that we are around the same time as other universal life on par with human intelligence is 99.99 percent impossible.
-
The Universe is waaaaaay to big for there not to be any life. It doesn't have to be much, it can be from unicellular organisms or things such as humans that have evolved for a while, it's just impossible. The Universe is about 170 trillion light years apart and is still expanding. And if you don't know how far 170 trillion light years is, look at it this way, light takes only 8 minutes to get here from the sun, not even an hour long, or even 10 minutes. Now think of one light YEAR and multiply that by 170 trillion. That just means there has to be other life somewhere in this universe.

I don't see how we could be alone

I'd believe in them if they say "Ayyyy Lmao".

I know we aren't special snowflakes, that's common sense. For all of the sister planets to earth, I do believe there is life on other planets. Now if we're talking about ET aliens, no I don't.

21 RepliesEdited by THUNDERCHILD: 9/13/2015 10:23:17 PMlife in some form or another at some time or another is very likely. distance and especially time are factors in detecting them existing along side us. i think coming right out and asking if others are/have been here is a much more interesting and entertaining question. while i don't have a problem with the extraterrestrial hypothesis, there is no obvious evidence for them coming from other stars. the ETH made the most sense decades* ago when we looked around and realised they weren't ours and our understanding of the "universe" then left us no other answer than another planet. it's my opinion after studying the subject that it's likely not so simple. i find it very unlikely that independent life that's close enough to make it here while we're here would evolve into humanoids. however, too many police, military, pilots, radar operators and honest citizens have and continue to see very disturbing craft in the skies (and under water) to toss aside the subject. physicists say string theory can't be proven, but i think the ufos prove string theory is correct. i don't think people are describing interstellar space craft, they're saying overwhelmingly again and again that they are simply appearing and blinking out, like a light switch. i think that the ufos prove that Einstein Rosen bridges or wormholes are not only real but being used. if not able to be artificially created possibly they already exist and we've not found them (or more frightening, perhaps some of us have found them. some of our more perplexing missing persons/aircraft/ water craft mysteries might be solved this way, regardless of whether lost accidentally or taken intentionally its interesting to ponder. this possible phenomena also might explain some very interesting OOPArt [out of place artifacts] cases). the simplest interpretation of string theory implies that we have something like 11 dimensions, however, the many worlds interpretation says they could be infinite, all occupying the same space but vibrating at different notes like different strings on the same instrument. think about it like a complex hall of mirrors, but the farther away the more different/unpredictable the reality in the mirror. everything that ever happened, will happen or could happen is happening in separate "mirrors" at once. so traveling to 'branes that are very similar to ours but more or less advanced would give you an effect that would look and feel just like time travel and or alternate history but where there would be no "grandfather paradox'' actions in one are independent of the others. but some "mirrors" would be very different places. if we could step into a 'brane/dimension/'verse nearly identical to ours but farther behind in development/"time" the first thing we'd do is build a "spy" program or vehicle or drone to explore as quietly as possible and record historic events. in such a scenario we and some of the "aliens" would pretty much be identical right down to a genetic level so the biological experimentation described by many alleged abductees should at least should be considered. our history is tainted by loss, bad memory and the word of the victorious. it'd be historically and scientifically priceless and commercially very entertaining to record and actually see how it really happened (or could have happened) and there is some anecdotal evidence that ufos have been seen at some early historic & religious events. for example: *on 2 occasions alexander the great's army was said to have encountered gleaming shields in the sky. in the 1rst the "shields" met the army at a river crossing and sent the army scattering in a panic. the second event was at the battle of tyr where both alexander and his opponents recorded that this/these sky shields destroyed the city wall assuring victory for alexander. * christopher columbus was supposedly followed by strange lights just before finding land. *ufos were commonly reported during ww2 (and other wars). american pilots called them "foo fighters" and their descriptions varied from ball of light to metallic craft, just like modern sightings. they were seen in all theaters and everyone thought they belonged to everyone else. in the vietnam war allegedly we called them "enemy helicopters" (neither the VC nor the NVA had helicopters). string theory could explain why there are so many variations and consistencies in craft/critter descriptions. and if all these multiverses, dimensions, membranes are common to each other it stands to reason that on a similar but unique parallel evolutionary path on a earth all their own with the same ingredients (earth and her elements) could explain why the better descriptions of the others are some what varied but mostly humanoid in description instead of something very different like some kind of intelligent goo or plasma (a thought. could "ghosts" fit in this category? something we cant yet understand or explain interacting with our reality in some way but that some otherwise honest people under some unknown conditions perhaps do kind of perceive? and so people automatically interpret them as "dead spirits" out of honest ignorance or just choose to ignore reports completely and dismiss alleged witnesses as nutjobs.) i recommend anything by dr j allen hynek, dr jaques vallee, dr John e mack and ted Phillips collection of physical trace cases. for a few better cases to start out with i suggest googling : * japan airlines radar (military radar)/visual case over alaska. its a very well documented top tier radar/visual case. the enormous object was described by the very experienced pilot, cpt. kenju terauchi, as being shaped like a shelled walnut and the size of 2 aircraft carriers and when and where the pilot said it moved visually it also moved on radar. the division chief of the Accidents and Investigation branch of the FAA, john callihan, kept a stack of data which includes a video of the radar scope with the recorded radio communication between the tower and the jet, it exists. that event lasted around a half an hour. soon after, a large air force jet may have witnessed thing too, that radio call was recorded as well. the pilot asks about it and the controller says its very rare to see the lights up there. * there's another good radar case from 1953 during the cold war when a ufo was spotted on radar above lake Superior. they scrambled a 2 man fighter piloted by felix moncla to intercept the target. in the tower the operators watched as the two blips merged on the scope then just faded out. the fighter and crew are still missing. they have a monument dedicated to the the incident that mentions the ufo. officially the u.s. air force decided the fighter must have hit a Canadian plane, the Canadians say that's preposterous. * in australia a fred valentich and his airplane disapeared after a very disturbing radio conversation with air traffic controllers in which he describes a metallic thing with green light "playing games" with him before suddenly announcing that it was hovering right over him, and that he was having engine & electrical trouble (electronics failure is reported often) the last thing he said was "it's not an aircraft!" before the recording ended in a few seconds of unidentified metallic squealing/grinding noise. neither he nor is plane were ever found. * or officer val Johnson who lost consciousness when is patrol car was hit by a basketball sized ball of light. both the clock in the car and is wrist watch were something like 14 or 17 minutes slow after the incident. his car suffered some interesting damage and resides in their local museum. there are many, many other good cases worthy of consideration, even just for the mystery like the: *Mary Celeste, found adrift with everything topside and below decks completely intact including cargo with no crew aboard like they all went for a swim at the same time. if it were a rogue wave that cleared the deck stuff would've been messed up everywhere and it was a big enough ship that there still would be guys below decks who weren't swept away. also, on youtube there is a very interesting/ easy to understand 7 minute video of the great dr carl sagan describing how an encounter with extradimensional beings might play out using the famous 2 dimensional "flat land". dr sagan did not believe in space aliens visiting earth, but his scenario perfectly, even disturbingly mirrors the situation many alleged abductees report. to find it search youtube for: Carl Sagan's Cosmos ~ Understanding Dimensions. its worth a few minutes. free videos on youtube with dr michio kaku are a very good place to start looking at string theory for beginners. *its the opinion of some that before we could conceive of space flight that they were called leprechauns, fairies, angels, demons or even gods. there are many historical works of art including cave paintings and famous religious pieces with what look suspiciously like what we'd call ufos today. maybe religion started because some of the "watchers" had a sense of humor or simply weren't sneaky enough.

1 ReplyYou know what's funny? Someone out there is probably wondering the same thing.

3 RepliesAnalytical data (I.E. the Drake equation) would say yes, while empirical data would say no, hence the Fermi Paradox exists. You're creating a false dichotomy of two irrational answers.
