I am speaking for the people that have yet to beat him without the burn: Skolas and his buddies are still too OP for the unskilled and communication-less Destiny players. His power is unbelievably high and the captains are able to kill players with one to two shots from their scorch cannons,(not to mention those sniper vandals that can pull three, direct shots on a player in a row). Bungie, you guys did a good job with taking the burn off, but I think you failed to realize that people were still going to have a hard time with Skolas. I have to say that it would be worth the struggle if the rewards were better i.e. 2x or 3x etheric light, but one etheric light for the level 35? We, the Destiny community, deserve better from the 35 Prison of Elders. I apologize for ranting about such a trivial subject, but I just felt it needed to be addressed.

Not that hard. Run out to the left. Take out the servitor, hit skolas real quick, then run to opposite end and jump on the platform. kill adds, kill servitor, hit skolas, repeat till bonds broken. Then kill adds while passing the taint. When all adds are gone, hit skolas and repeat. It is easier to do the mines with as little adds as possible. At the moment variks announce the mines, whoever had the taint the most recently should run to the furthest mine while the other two stay and kill adds. It is easiest with a hunter. Should take from 15 to 20 minutes depending on how fast you kill adds.
-
If you are unskilled then shouldnt beat 35. We the players deserve a level system that differentiates the weak from the strong.
-
IMO he should be guaranteed to drop an elemental primary each time. Its not like they are that good anyway, it baffles me as to why they are so bloody stingy :/
-
Dont care about skolas. Lighthouse rewards 3 etheric light im fine

2 Replies-blam!- it's Catapult and Angry this week. Good luck to anyone attempting it this week, I guess.

I did it for the first time since they took the burn damage away a few nights back and the Skolas battle only took about 15 minutes. It was helped by the fact that small arms was one of the perks though as it made it super easy to pick off the enemies. In order to get the mines done we had one person take the poison just as the mines spawned in and left him with it to die while me and another guy went out and got the mines done. Repeated the same thing with the last set of mines also. It's not as hard as people think but I agree with everyone that it is simply not worth the time and effort to be honest. The rewards are poor to say the least.

5 RepliesI think removing the burns was a mistake.. Go ahead people, cry because you don't have gjally
-
I got it done the first few weeks it was around (with burns) and haven't bothered since. I don't need etheric light, I don't need the elemental weapons. They seem a waste of space. So I'm happy having already done it, having the grimoire and carrying on with the other things to do. I'd much rather run vog
-
I did it second try yesterday and it was my first time doing it since they removed the burns and it was pretty simple. The mechanics are easy enough to understand and you only have to communicate with two other people so that's not a big issue. Rewards do need some sort of change though, get rid of shank burn.

Ive only done Skolas twice i think, maybe 3 times, yet ive still got 30+ Etheric light sat in the vault. The problem is i think there is not enough loot in the game to give motivation to do PVE anymore! The best thing most PVE modes offer is the chance of an exotic, but the majority of Destiny players already have 90% of the exotics in the game, and mostly don't care the for ones they don't have. Either that, or your waiting for a Ghorn that just never seems to drop. I used to be a big PVE player, but for the past 2 weeks ive played PVP every single time i played Destiny. I did the Nightfall but other than that i didn't do any POE, no raids, no queens bounties. Nothing. There is nothing i want that PVE can provide.

Do the Icebreaker heavy ammo glitch... Before you go out into the skolas room dump all your ammo except your icebreaker rounds... Go out and kill adds using only your icebreaker... Do not pick up ammo until most to all of the enemies are dead... Then spam heavy at the boss with all that heavy on the ground... Have a hunter go get the mines while the other two finish Skolas... Easy cheesy

Edited by Lewisss xD: 7/14/2015 10:00:16 AMI beat him yesterday, took me a couple attempts but it was the first time I tried it. I don't think the reward was my reason for wanting to beat him though it was just one if those things I wanted to beat just for the experience. And I really enjoyed it, even though it was hard it was entertaining and I was learning new things from my teammates. I don't think he is hard if you have good communication and patience remember its a game and skolas is just a challenge for you to overcome you can either moan about him or try again.

3 RepliesI enjoy skolas now more than ever. IMO it's the best boss battle in destiny, requiring the most communication and teamwork.

2 RepliesEdited by Thee Same: 7/14/2015 9:33:57 AMAgreed. Skolas is a waste of time. Rewards suck for the amount of time you have to put into it. All the fallen guns suck. The encounter isn't fun. Just takes too long. Ran Crota hard 3 times in the time it takes to do PoE 35. I've beat him pre nerf and post nerf. I have all 3 of the fallen exotics. Rather just do PoE 34 for etheric light. My team loves running VoG and Crota on hard mode over and over again. PoE 35 just doesn't have the replay value. Btw. My team has had a gally drop every week in Crota for the last 3 weeks. Unfortunately it's to the guys that already have it. They're on their 3rd -5th gally. Still have 3 teammates that are missing it.

I think killing him is a reward on its own ;) I find it a fun fight because it is so hard. Havent beat him doh, got stuck on 20% or sumthing, but i really like to kill him and experience the adrenaline rush :)
-
5 RepliesIt always takes me at least three hours to beat him. I don't know why, the actual mechanics are pretty simple, but something always happens to mess us up
-
Please don't listen to this man. There needs to be challenging content in the game. They should leave it as it is.. HOWEVER... if they simply want to encourage more people to experience the fight what they really need to do is have a lvl 32 or 34 version of the fight that has the same mechanics in it but lesser rewards. So people could get a grasp on the mechanics really well before tackling the real deal. I will admit its kinda rough to go into that just from the lvl 34 POE. I just really think challenging content needs to remain in the game, they especially need to keep it so you need to beat him in order to get that exotic emblem at the end of the year.
-
Agree, I have completed Skolas twice but also got bored, ran out of time, or failed on five occasions ... PoE is such a big disappointment ... the armor and weapons are horrible, not just for the effort you put into the game, but period. I feel like Bungie is trolling us with PoE.
-
It's not that hard. It's good fun I think. The rest of Poe is a joke.
-
He's not worth it anymore for me. Already got all the exotics. Got two elemental primaries but they're severely underwhelming. I actually have extra etheric light since I've upgraded all my gear. I suppose there's the judgments chance. Could try to get armor with better rolls. But it really seems pointless since prison gear will be irrelevant in a couple months.
-
I still haven't beat him at all. He's all I need to "become legend" according to the bungie app. Nobody wants to play him anymore bc the rewards blow, so Idk if I'll finish him off or not.
-
2 RepliesDone it twice when it was solar burn so it wasn't hard. But it wasn't worth the effort then. Never mind now
-
Yes, it is a waste of time.
-
4 RepliesEdited by SMACK KEVORKIAN: 7/14/2015 9:08:21 AMI've only done Skolas once and it's not even remotely worth the effort. Other than one or two 34 runs I don't even bother with PoE now. Boring as hell.
-
The last time I did Skolas was the week rift before they removed the burn. Even though they removed it that Monday which was pretty dumb. The rewards are trash so it doesn't really make sense to waste a bunch of time when you can just do 34 and get an e-light
