Edited by Seldser: 7/14/2015 1:02:59 PMShigesato Itoi's powerful parting words to his dear friend
"When I'm parting with a friend, regardless of the circumstances, I find it best to just say, 'See you later.' We'll meet again. After all, we're friends. That's right - nothing unusual about it. I'll see you later. "You went on a trip far, far away, even though it was planned for many years from now. You wore your best outfit and said 'Sorry for the short notice,' though you didn't say it out loud. You always put yourself last, after you'd finished helping everyone else. You were so generous as a friend that this trip might be your very first selfish act. "I still can't grasp what's happened. It feels like I could still get a light-hearted e-mail asking me out to lunch at any moment - after you've made sure lunch wouldn't disrupt my schedule, of course. You can invite me out whenever you want. I'll invite you, too. So for now, let's plan on meeting again. You can call me up whenever you like, and I'll give you a call, too. I still have a lot to talk to you about, and if I come up with any particularly good ideas, I'll let you know. "So let's meet again. No - I suppose we're already meeting. Right here, right now."
this hit me right in the feels

He just has to restart

He was an amazing person. His directs were genuinely amazing and funny. His E3 videos weren't cheesy or didn't come off as too corporate like other companies. He had a hand in almost every project. He had outstanding programming skills. He took PAY CUTS so his employees wouldn't be fired. What a terrible loss gamers have suffered here. Iwata shaped gaming tremendously. Rest in piece.

Thank you for moving the post. c: I'm sorry for your loss. I've been playing nothing but Nintendo products for the past few days in his honor. The gaming community has truly lost a legend.

2 RepliesI know nobody wants to actually know the grisly details, but I did a little digging and found out. Details are below. He died from a bile duct growth aka cancer in the tube connecting the liver, gall bladder and stomach. I just hope it wasn't... Painful for a long time. Iwata gave the world some of the greatest games to this date, and started many franchises that will live on in his name. People can argue about how good or bad of a game Destiny is, but no one will challenge that the games Iwata made have touched billions and will continue to be a large part of our lives, our children's lives and for many generations to come. Please understand.

25 RepliesMove to #Gaming or #OffTopic. This post does not pertain to the Destiny universe.

3 Replies55. 55 years old. This man missed out on so much cause of one stupid disease. Many others have missed out on so much as well cause of cancer and many other diseases. If there was a cure for everything but you had to hand over your most prized possession I would do it.

He was one hell of a guy, not a lot of CEOs would take a 50% salary cut to avoid laying off employees. He always looked for ways to better the company and the industry. He will be greatly missed

A moment of silence for a true legend and a great man.

Such tragic news indeed. RIP Mr. Iwata, thanks for your contributions to the gaming industry (and my childhood).

1 ReplyI've grown up playing Nintendo games; whether they be Mario or Wii Sports or Pokemon, they've all helped to make me who I am today. The gaming community has lost a great man today, his imagination was/is on par to Walt Disney's and has impacted just as many people across the world. Rest in peace.
