It has recently come to my attention that Variks is a female..... Lmfao.
Discuss (or not) whether the decision to hire a male voice actor was meaningfully intentional, arbitrarily unconventional, or a last minute hire in lieu of Eartha Kitt.

The Fallen are probably arthropodic/arachnid in evolutionary origin; it's mentioned in grimoire cards that they have mandibles, and their multiple limbs/eyes and bristly hair implies bugs. Therefore it makes no sense for them to be physically diverse based on physical sex. Break that gender binary! Not all women have to look like 'women'. However I would like to say I don't think it's fair that the male/female body types are so different especially for Titans. A female Titan should be just as large and buff as their male counterpart. A lot of the Titan armor looks ridiculous on female Titans for this reason. Otherwise if the Exos were made in humanity's image you can chalk up their robot titter to human hubris (which is what the grimoire cards about the Exos do).

On your "exos shouldn't have breasts because they're robots" argument, what would you say if there wasn't a gender option at all and they all looked the same? You would probably argue then as well, saying something along the lines of "why did Bungie not make female exos an option? Because they're SEXIST *crowd gasps*". Now, your observation could have been made in a way that didn't make you sound sexist by putting your remark in a non-aggressive way. This entire document is practically screaming "This is my argument. I'm a blind feminist who is pissed the -blam!- off because I want to be. I'm not going to listen to anyone, especially not the filthy male side of the species, regardless of what they say". That was my connotation, anyway. On to your alien hypothesis. What makes you so sure they're all males anyway? From a human standpoint, yes. They all look like they are males. But they are ALIENS. For example, the Cabal are native to a planet that has an IMMENSE gravitational pull (read the grimoir on them, if you haven't already). I'd imagine for everyone to survive, there wouldn't be such a fine line distinguishing the two sexes. Everyone would need to be pretty beefy, and us humans tend to think that that body type is characteristic of males. Who's to say these aliens aren't hermaphrodites, as well? I'd also like to point out that from a designing point of view, making a different design for the exos would be far too complicated for something so minor. Look up how hellacious a programmer's job is. TL;DR: You're begging for attention by picking a fight with the community (the male side of the community, in particular). Your neat observation could have been shared in a better, non-aggressive, non-inflammatory way. Exos having breasts is too petty a thing to actually be worked up over by itself anyway, it's merely a catalyst. The reason aliens would all look male is because, you know, they're aliens and are foreign to our human eyes. they could be hermaphroditic for all we know. Also, actually making a genderless exo would be a nightmare in terms of actually programming the game. If and when you write it, I look forward to your counter-argument. (I am male, by the way)
[See bottom for edits] I tend to think that, in a community of mostly males, no one will care about these matters. I myself consider the following points a minor irritation more than anything, but in the interest of things I find interesting, I just wanted to highlight some likely unintentionally sexist decisions that bungie made with Destiny that, no doubt, arose from the sheer laziness that embodies most of the other questionable decisions Bungie made with this game. Firstly, I thought it idiotic that the female exo has breasts. Does she require those for breastfeeding her infant toaster or is that just the standard model with which the last city fills its brothels? Are destiny's developers perhaps afflicted with a depraved fetish for robotit? Regardless, the lack of variance in body type is actually more than just a sex related topic, however, as it is pure laziness that there are only two body types: male and female. Edit: Additionally, what exactly is the relevance or rationale behind the exos being assigned a gender in the first place? Second, I've noticed that nearly every boss fight or strike boss is male. To my recollection, the only ones that have been female are Deathsinger and Omnigul; both wizards. I am undecided whether this was laziness or thoughtlessness (perhaps it is my bias against Bungie for considering that the fact was duly noted and decided that no one gave a sh!t), but this brings me to my last point. Unlike most recent games, there is a lack of female enemies in general... Or so I thought. I first thought it rather exclusive that there appeared to be no female enemies save for either some or all wizards who comprise of but one type of enemy amongst the many enemies throughout the four races of enemies, but rationalized to myself that perhaps it is not Bungie that is sexually insensitive but the creatures of the darkness who do not allow their women to partake in galactic domination. Or perhaps the races are simply refered to as "he" as a normative shorthand but are actually asexual. I was proven wrong when I received a Petra bounty for a Baroness Captain who was, unsurprisingly, identical to her male counterparts. It isn't that there are no females. It's just that they look exactly like males. Now it could be that bungie developers consist of a pack of nocturnal mole rats that don't leave their hole, have never felt the delicate embrace of a woman, and don't seem to realize that throughout nature, male and female specimens of any species are rarely if ever identical, the least of the potential differences being size. However, something tells me that Bungie was just being lazy again. EDIT: Apparently some people lack the reasoning skills to follow a line of logic or even quote me correctly, so I will add this for the illiterates who said things like "it's hypocritical for you to say that exos should have boobs but the enemies should.": The exos are inorganic and lack any practical necessity for breasts. Unless you are unsure of the practical uses for breasts, it's a very obvious point. As for the organic enemies having breasts, that was not a point that was ever made. I will not restate the actual point as I would be remiss if I did not encourage you to learn to read.
Bad Huny Badger, are you for real?!

Edited by tapeworm rage: 7/14/2015 12:53:47 AM1. In regards to Exos, they were machines build in the image of man (humanity, not males) to serve along side them as equals. How could a machine be equal to humanity if they were genderless? How could one have diverse personalities built to replicate humans if they couldn't understand gender and what they represented? It only makes sense to build them with genders and having them express artificial femininity and masculinity to understand basic instinctive emotions such as love, anger, compassion and depression. One couldn't accurately replicate humanity without implementing a reflection of human gender. Males and females are different and ignoring that fact is ignorant to nature where artificial nature was the goals of the exos. Otherwise, you'd just have heartless machines, like the Vex. 2. For time restraints, i'll just go with strike and raid bosses. Strikes Sepiks Prime: No gender Phogoth: Gender unknown, no mention of gender in story or the grimoire Aksor, Archon Priest: Male, stated in the grimoire Sekrion, Nexus Mind: No gender, it's a machine Valus Ta'aurc: Male, stated in grimoire Omnigul: Female, all wizards are female Taniks: Male as stated in grimoire. Note that he is also a cyborg and gender may be irrelevant to him. Raids The Templar: Genderless, it is Vex Atheon: Genderless, it is never referred with any gander specific pronouns in the grimoire. In Raids, fireteam members may refer to Atheon as "He", but that is just humans projecting a gender on a non-biologic creature. Humans often do this, just look at the Spanish language. The Deathsinger: Female, all wizards are female Crota, Son of Oryx: He's male, clearly Total: Genderless: 4 Female: 2 Male: 4 (Taniks included) Unknown: 1 There's quite an off balance, but it is definitely not "all male". I'd love killing females as much as the next person, but there simply isn't much there for options. There's always promise for Fallen, their military is roughly 50/50 when it comes to gender. 3 So the Fallen. Just because they don't have feminine features doesn't mean they're not female. You shot down the poor Exos for having breasts earlier, what does it take to be a female? They're aliens, they are different than us Humans. I, personally, don't judge the Fallen. I think it's very noble that the Fallen women fight alongside their male counterparts and I kill them all equally and with respect. I would be sad to see how Fallen women would react to these human's undermining they femininity because they lack Earth mammal mammaries. It's shameful and you embarrass our race with such comments of bigotry. Your edit I'm sorry, the feedback forums are a cesspool of human waste. Nobody deserves the crap people spew out over here. It's human nature and they abuse their anonymity and think they can get away with saying whatever they want. You just have to sift through all the crap posts like the rest of us. Just look at poor Deej, wouldn't want to be him :P

11 RepliesEdited by Drive By Pancakes: 7/14/2015 4:02:16 AM*sigh* let's get this over with. 1. Cabal. They're (supposedly) amphibians. Some amphibians can change their gender to suit the needs of their race. Not saying the Cabal do, but they might. 2. Vex. They're -blam!-ing machines. They need no gender at all. 3. Hive. Hive are the alien equivalent of zombies. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not argue about sex on a zombie. Either way, their disgusting, and trying to kill and eat you. If you want to argue it, all wizards are female. 4. Fallen. There are females among the fallen. As for differences... What are you asking for to differentiate them, specifically? Cause I can tell you now, it's gonna look dumb on them. Also, going back to your Exo argument, this is invalidated. 5. Humans. Your standard humans. 6. Awoken. A matriarchal society ruled by a Queen. The only native male you see in the reef is the queens brother, who's her second in command. Which makes sense, cause I don't know about you, but blood should run deeper than sex. 7. Exos. The exos are essentially immortal storage devices for our memories, built by humans for humans. If you know anything about humans, when we build robots for personal use, we tend to make them look like us. 8. Birds. All those birds flying around? I assure you that at least ONE OF THEM is a female. 9. Cockroaches. In some areas is some planets, pointing a gun at a pile of garbage will cause cockroaches to scatter. Pointing it away will cause them to return. ONE OF THEM is a female. 10. Trees. I can't tell the difference, and neither can you. 11. Goldfish (or whatever kind of fish they are). I assure you ONE OF THOSE FISH is a female. Edit: 12: Dragonflies. They wouldn't be flying around if there wasn't anyone laying eggs, so, logically speaking, ONE IS A FEMALE.

Instead of trying to cut down what you have said, I will try to offer a lore-related explanation for one of your issues with the game. In most science fiction works robots, or the exo in this case, are made as much like humans as they can be to foster trust between them and humans. We accept things we can relate to and giving them a sex could have been a design choice to help integrate and build acceptance for them in society. Also, it is theorized that exos are actually robotic bodies that humans have uploaded their consciousness into, in order to outlive their human life-span. If that is true, genders would be an essential part of the process. Not saying you are wrong to feel that way, but maybe that helps explain some of it.

Maybe sexism in general is a blown up lard of BS with which it's only purpose is to arouse drama and debate. Does anyone speak for the lioness that must kill for her den? Does anyone call out the Black Widow for eating her mister after a one night stand? Does anyone complain at the more colorful collar of the Mallard? STFU.
-
Not all guys are sexist; some are gay.
-
Wizards are all "allegedly" female hive... But think about it, name any other game that has a hell of a lot of female enemies that are noticeably female. I don't mean to point this out, but I'd rather not kill a bunch of female enemies, not that they are perceived by men to be weaker and more fragile as the stereotype goes. Honestly you might not even know what gender the enemies are... They might even be genderless

Stop talking and get back in the kitchen

Fallen are sexist? If you put a (human) girl in full body armor its pretty damn hard to tell the gender. Who's to say that the only difference in their anatomy isn't also some muscular and adipose points. Fallen society is based on warfare and scavenging. Are you upset that the Fallen have equal gender rolls?

2 RepliesEdited by Noble JUH: 7/13/2015 7:14:30 PMI see only 2 enemy sets that has a sexist problem: Cabal and Fallen. “It’s a man’s world.” The vex has no need for gender. The hive have the wizards, of which are in the upper leadership and most powerful. Below reply: "The fallen have females, the baroness, the female caption in clydes 6s story in the grimore"

4 RepliesNice post. I think it's regressive, too, that we must commit a character permanently to one gender assignment or the other with no ability to change it later.

3 RepliesWould it make you feel better to explain why Exo Females have breasts? The breasts on a Female Exo are actually nodes in which the power supply, motor skills, and control of normal, human actions are headquartered. The head-brain of an Exo, however, is home to the complex functions of thought and calculation only an Exo is capable of. As for the enemies, the female counterparts of the leaders of the enemy races act as immense political muscles, swaying entire planets to do the "royalty's" bidding.

Exos have gender because that's how they were made in the game's lore. Why wouldn't fully aware (and alive) machines have gender. Take Glados, or HAL as examples.
