I'm curious to know what you guys think of Thorn in PvP. Is it overpowered? Or is it fine how it is?
I would like this to be a respectful discussion, so please stick to discussing and not attacking and degrading others, thanks
I'll start it off. I think Thorn needs a revisit. I was thinking about the other Exotic hand cannons. The Last Word is a two hit headshot if you are in hip fire, and then the gun is a short ranged weapon. The Hawkmoon is a two hit thanks to it's perks, but that does not guarantee a two hit kill every time. Thorn does not have a range problem, and is always a two hit kill, you don't have the uncertainty Hawkmoon has. It's much much better than the other Exotic hand cannons! (That does not mean that the other hand cannons are bad, or that they are not fun to use) Another point is that many many people use Thorn in Trials and IB, and for good reason. This gun is very powerful.
Your thoughts? I'd love to hear them.
Your rebuke? I'd love to hear it.
I apologize to the regulars on this forum who have seen posts like this many times. I'm not a regular, so I didn't know there were hundreds of the same discussion

It's a piece n I wish it got deleted from the game honestly. It's such a cheap weapon
-
1 ReplyNeeds to go back to the way it was. Won't be as effective as before in pve But judging by the forums I'd say the only exotic used in pve is gjallahorn

Honestly, I think the biggest problem with Thorn is the absurd amount of aim assist. It's an incredible weapon that would reward a skilled hand if there was way less aim assist. It could probably use some small tweaks aside from this, but I think toning down the aim assist would go a long way towards making it much more balanced.

14 RepliesI like the gun. I just got it and I thought it would make miracles for my kd, but in the end i don't see a big difference. Only an assist increase and a couple more post mortem. I am afraid of what a nerf on HC may bring. A see 3 scenarios: 1) they mess with impact and range. Then good luck stopping shotgunners without a shotgun. You see where this goes, it is already bad as it is. 2) they mess with RoF. Sounds good but it would make them useless in pve unless you give them more stability 3) the up a little AR so they can be an option. Give them back the range OR give them back damage. Not both. Either case, prepare yourself for forums to be spammed with "please nerf red death", "please nerf the messenger". Pulse will be the next big thing....don't worry scout rifle users, your turn will come.

2 RepliesIt's a gun. A gun that people use. That's all there is to it.
-
1 ReplyI thought thorn was really annoying until I finally got it recently, it needs a nerf still, but not as annoying.
-
Good gun but it's over used that's why it's completely OP if I was in the less than 10% used weapons in PvP then it wouldn't be complained about as much , the Vex was once the god of PvP with its automatic fusion rifle power and 56 bullets it was amazing , the select few who had it rarely died but as it became more and more popular as more people attained it from raiding it was so over used it was considered OP and was dramatically nerfed even the clip size , so thorn users look out the nerfs coming and all the cry babies will get their way
-
Its OP. Its bullshit.
-
2 RepliesIt is op, and since I seldom use it, I am at an automatic disadvantage

1 ReplyThorn=OP OP=Fgt Fgt=Thorn
The trifecta of fgt
-
One thing that I don't like is that it's able to out shoot a Scout/Sniper at times from well outside its range.
-
It's stupidly easy to use spam bullets from miles away, counter snipers even 1v3 situations you still come out on top

3 RepliesIts the only gun in the game that is challenging to get(actually earned) and rewards you for grinding it out. The grind to get it makes you a better pvp'er as well. Cheers

Same as any game use what kills simple as. I don't play fps games for any other reason
-
Low skill gun that rewards a semi good player with a decent amount of kills. On the flip side, it's a low skill gun that allows high skill players to dominate.
-
It would be fine imo if they just increased ttk across the board and brought auto rifles back. The problem with thorn is that it is good at everything and doesn't require much skill, the good players with thorn are scary good.

This is what I do to thorn https://youtu.be/0uIoflc_eLU

5 RepliesOnly scrublords use thorn. It's that simple. If you claim to be good but have to use thorn, you're not good, you just lean on a crutch weapon. Yes. It is that simple.
-
Don't really mind anything about it, keeping your shield down or the range or anything. Just hate when Ive killed the thorn user then I die from burn
-
I SEE SO MANY THORN USER SCARED TO GET NERF. Hahahahah! No skill player
-
They either need to leave it alone or revisit the time to kill issues that all the exotic hand cannons have. Plus, red death and vex. Then the next wine fest will be over certain op perks people roll on legendaries. The only real issue with the exotic hand cannons is that they completely have their own damage to rate of fire archetypes. They simply dump more damage faster than other weapons.

1 ReplyEdited by Dead General X: 7/11/2015 10:52:05 AMI'd love to see Thorn nerfed into oblivion and turned into an unusable gun in PVP after what that gun has become and the douchebags who use it in PVP, it needs to be put down and left to dust completely for a long time.

The Last Word is a two hit headshot if you are in hip fire, and then the gun is a short ranged weapon.
TLW is supposedly a short range weapon based on its stats, but I have been sniped (and have sniped myself) cross map with it, so its range stat is a lie. Also, sometimes the bonus hip fire damage procs while you ADS, which is a bug, so you can two head shot snipe with it while aiming.
Thorn does not have a range problem, and is always a two hit kill
Nope. Thorn is only a two head shot kill, not always a two hit kill.

1 ReplyIt needs a rework, I just hate the way it looks

70 RepliesWell, well, well. Another nerf post by a low K/D scrub... and presented in such an icky fashion - using words like revisit instead of nerf and asking us to be nice ahead of time... No! I won't fall for your whiny a33 bs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Thorn or any other weapon in PvP right now. Plenty of fantastic multiplayer games have been fought by it's combatants with only a couple weapon choices at best - think Halo (Pistol), Halo 2 (Battle Rifle), Gears of War 3 (Gnasher), etc. And the interesting thing about the assertion that it makes for an unbalanced experience is that it is, in fact, EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE. What an underachieving scrub like him misses during all his whining is that everyone using the same 5ish weapons (Thorn included), GUARANTEES that the best man will win most of the time. Thorn to Thorn. Thorn to TLW. TLW to Messenger. MIDA to anything (lol). The only small difference between those games and this one is that you have to obtain those weapons. However, with Xur and exotic bounties, we all know that, if you've played the game for 10 minutes, you should already have those weapons in your arsenal. And, once you do, you should be able to perform at the same level or better than your opponents. If you can't, then you are playing the wrong game.
