I have become a thorn user....
Okay, so I've tried using messenger, fulcrum, vex, and many other weapons in crucible. But every Damn time I kill someone, I'm poisoned to death. My solution? I've started using thorn. It wrecks. And it's very much overpowered. But now, I use it and live for gunning someone else with thorn down. Haha. That's what it feels like asshole. But yeah, IB sucks because of thorn, trials sucks because of thorn, and crucible in general sucks thanks to thorn. So I think I'll just keep using thorn till they nerf it into oblivion.
Haha, but seriously, I inly use thorn now to -blam!- with other thorners. Sorry if you get caught in the cross fire.
Edit: I put down the thorn for now. Don't want to be that guy on my team. So now I've been using messenger and the fulcrum depending on the map. Both of these guns are awesome for crucible.

Totally understandable. I'm not lucky to own either those guns but can do pretty well with Time on Target (pulse rifle) with the recent buff :)

A solution a friend of mine had was to only allow one exotic weapon per team in Trials. That way only one thorn per team and it forces the team to use strategy in picking their weapons.

I recently decided to quit playing because of the terrible, terrible weapon balance. I was playing some games of Iron Banner and literally every player was running around blink shotgunning, or cross-mapping with Thorn.... I was the only player in 6 games not using an exotic Hand Cannon. All these people forced into using these bullshit weapons when half of them probably don't even like using Thown/TLW in the first place. In those few games I was blink-shotgunned, double-tapped by Thorn from across the map, double 111'd from TLW, Final Rounded by Efrideet's Spear.... The ONLY map where a sniper is anywhere near being viable is Shores. Aside from that, it's pretty much 12 players running around with super-shotguns on tiny maps..... It was really frustrating..... Then I just sat back and though to myself 'Is this actually[i] fun[/i] anymore?' I don't like Thorn, and I don't want to use it. I don't want to feel like I[i] have[/i] to use it. I don't like shotguns, and blinking with them is just cheap bullshit.. I don't want to run an exotic Hand Cannon and a shotgun anymore.. It's stale and boring. If not doing so means I'm at a disadvantage, then Bungie need to fix their weapon balance. Until they do, I won't be playing again.

Thorn is my favorite Handcannon in PvE. But in PvP, I use Mida or Red Death. I get way more kills. Go ahead, use Thorn. I don't really care. I'll scope your head with Mida and take you out before you know it.

Yeah, I'm not -blam!-ing around this time. I'm using mine. It's all I see. But let it be known, the last Iron Banner I didn't use it! 2 rank 5's and 1 rank 3, but -blam!- it this time lol. Serious performance enhancer lol. Gotta kill these mlg's!

4 RepliesWho ever designed the thorn was a -blam!-ing idiot, it ruins crucible because that's all everyone uses because every other weapon type is shit compared to it. "Let's make the most overpowered weapon in the game then buff it so it's a 2 shot -blam!-ing kill like a sniper rifle, and give it the same range as one too".

4 RepliesIf it's currently one of the top weapons and it fits your style of play, why not use it? It seems to me that a simple fix for Bungie would be to just change the bounties in IB to get people to use other weapons. Kills with Scout, kills with Pulse.... Make it a fun challenge to get the bounty rewards plus people get to try new weapon types. Regular bounties change on a daily basis, don't see why IB bounties can't rotate too.

The Thorne is op'ed as f#ck, good god.... I'm not really upset my The Last Word, but good god bungie, fix god damn Thorne. Like people have been saying, you give Thorne to people who suck ass then they go and get cheap kills................. It's not fair to the people who are actually good and not using the Thorne.

I'm an ex-thorn user, I'm looking forward to the coming rebalancing that the e3ers are talking about, apparently the new kick and lower ammo count makes hand cannons ineffective at anything beyond mid-range, I've had to stick to my mida because I can actually get most thorn users with it and thorn just isn't fun to play with any more. I think we need to be careful what we tell bungie though, we don't want hand cannons to be the new autorifles, we just want them to be harder to use and with a few more limitations

I'm in the same boat as you brother. I hate Thorn but it is almost necessary to use it. I have found that a decent counter is TLW/ Sniper. But that only works if you rush with TLW or run away and snipe em out, and even then, it's not an amazing counter. If enough enemies are using thorn I will either switch or sit my happy ass in the back of the map and snipe from outside thorns range, which I don't really like doing. Sitting in the back leaves you too open to flanks and snipes. I prefer to run around and snipe from mid-range around cover but that is damn near impossible against a thorn.

It's okay if your a Thorn user, long as you can actually use other primaries then who cares, it's obviously not a crutch weapon, just evening the odds when everyone else in your lobby is using it. Now if your a Thorn user and legit can't use any other primary outside the Thorn. Well then I can't wait to see you struggle once they nerf it lol.
