A lot has been posted recently. Emotegate, money throwing, paying for content twice etc. All of which is, to be fair, consumer choice. I come here asking you, fellow gamers from the great nation of Murica, to stand with us on something that we cannot control. I know this does not affect you but I hope a poem from Pastor Martin Niemöller might explain why this is important for all of us gamers.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
I'm not here to debate what is a fair price for TTK. I'm not here because I will not buy TTK. I'm not here because I cannot afford TTK. I'm here to proclaim a great injustice. And as a great American Martin Luthor King once said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".
Let's use MW2 as an example. When DLC was priced in Microsoft Points it was 1500 MSPs. This cost a bit over $15 (inc sales tax) in the US and £9.50 (inc. sales tax) in the UK (due to exchange rates at the time). This is exactly the same amount of money. I could give you many examples of this. There has been no tax laws changed subsequently to my knowledge. Microsoft said (at E3 2012) when they moved to local currency that this would not affect DLC costs.
So Bungie, please, explain why the DLC costs £40 when it costs $40 in America. I understand it also costs more in other countries (but not in some). £40 includes 20% VAT and the $40 does not include the sales tax however in terms of pure hard cash someone is getting $52 (£33.33) from UK customers and $40 from US customers. Why was it initially £28 ($44 - the US price + 10% sales tax)? Why was Luke so evasive about it?
Can someone please explain who is getting that $12 per transaction extra? Is it Microsoft? Activision? The EU? You Bungie? I know foreign currencies are "literally foreign" to you but before I throw my money at the screen can you contact the accountants or someone with a god damn -blam!-ing brain to put forward an explanation rather than the "is taxes" line we got for the seasons pass?
Please stand with us on this USA. Don't make excuses - this is not fair. I'm not doing this on my behalf, I'm very fortunate to have a good job and £40 is nothing to me but when I was a kid that would have been a lot and I grew up inspired by some amazing games (Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart, Doom, Wolvenstein, Unreal Tournament, Quake, Total War etc.) and I love this game. I want to play it but not if I am viewed as a second class citizen who has to pay more to get in the club, that kind of thing makes me think I'm not wanted.
Sorry for the long post. Please bump, sign, like and comment if you agree.
Edit: humbled by the response, America stands with us. Thank you Guardians.
I'm sorry about Top Gear but some advice - DON'T watch the new version with Chris Evans. It will be terrible.

Bump great post
-
I'm not buying it. I've had enough of being screwed.
-
It really isn't fair to you guys. They need to take exchange rate into account.
-
Edited by SikRockstarr: 6/25/2015 5:57:06 PMYeah, I've never understood why they feel it's justified to charge you guys more because essentially someone can't calculate exchange rates properly. Definitely not fair
-
Still a bit salty about the war but I guess I'll be with you guys. As long as you know I don't support tea time.
-
Canada bro...
-
I feel 40 bucks is fine. I feel like I will get 40 dollers worth out of the game.
-
Agreed. 40 bucks is way too high even for us to pay. And 20 bucks for emotes. Don't get me started. We're watching a community focused company start it's road to decline. Their shifting the gaze from the community and overall smart marketing, to become a cpmpany of money sucking leeches.
-
Signed. Murica shall stand with you.
-
2 RepliesUnfair is unfair. No reason you folks in Europe should pay more.

Edited by Church: 6/25/2015 4:11:10 PMGotta help out gamers across the pond hope they fix you guys priceing over there.
-
I get the frustration man. Paying 2/3 the price of the original game is annoying enough, paying full price for 1/3 of the content would be infuriating.
-
'Murica got your back.
-
2 RepliesI'll stand with you. Bungie at least owes other countries a reason as to why their DLC is higher. It's not about the fact that's it's 40 bucks in America, I'll gladly pay that. But the fact that Europe and other countries are paying over 60 is wrong.
-
Interesting and thanks for putting this up here. I thought $20 for some emotes was expensive but you all are getting a $12 tax because someone can't figure out an exchange rate... These guys are good!

Just curious, do other DLC for other games charge the same way? Eg. Witcher 3 dlc costs 30 USD in USA, and £30 in UK, or is it only Destiny that does this?

1 ReplyBungie is just racist against all other countries, nuff said.

Hit the "poem" and then TLDR'ed. Don't use a speech based on equal rights to bitch about video games. TLDR: You guys are totally getting shafted. It's outrageous to charge you like that.
-
It would be nice to see an explanation for this. If it costs more in regions outside the U.S. To setup online content that could make sense. For this you'd need to know what the regions were. If the region is UK only the this is probably a fixed cost issue (servers?). The UK population is lower so the costs are spread out higher per person. Personally I think there should be one price globally, and no region separation, but doubt that can happen with all the differences in local business law.

2 RepliesEdited by Apolloshot: 6/25/2015 2:41:16 PMThis is the only complaint I still find valid. 39.99 is not the same across countries so it seems a little absurd that it isn't priced differently. That being said in Canada we actually get better value because ours is priced at 39.99 Canadian (when a new game is 79.99 in Canada compared to 59.99 in the U.S.) so yay? Edit: Also as a Canadian I literally cannot vote on this poll :(

I'll stand with you. But please, give us Top Gear back.. :'( Haha. Damn BBC always playing Dr. Who marathons.
