You will no longer be allowed to buy alcohol while you have your children with you or anyone who is under the age of 21 without an ID.
I just got off work and went to Walmart with my dad to pick up some food on the way home. As you know today is the day of the Kentucky Derby so there will be a party to go to. We picked up two 12 packs of alcohol and the rest of the groceries and headed to the check out. The man started to ring up our items and stopped once he got to the Bud Lights. He said that he was going to need to see my ID and I said okay but I'm not buying them (I'm 19 and don't intend to drink at the party). He said that it was now company policy that Walmart Employees can't sell alcohol to any party that has minors present. I asked about leaving the store because it was ridiculous and he told us that I had to stay until his manager arrived. I said that this was discrimination and he said "no it was just a precaution because another store had sold alcohol to a group that got into a fatal car wreck and the minor of the group had consumed alcohol." We talked about how redundant the rule was as the only line behind us at 6am got long and we waited for the manager. The manager eventually showed up and asked about the situation and another employee explained that I didn't have an ID (nobody ever said anything about me not having the ID that was in my pocket) and the manger looked at us and said NO. Then my dad and I explained that I was his son and that we were just buying groceries and the alcohol was for a party today. She then changed her mind and said OKAY.
Now wait, isn't this a company policy? Now it's a choice? I understand that they are trying to prevent children from obtaining alcohol but this is ridiculous. The system behind all of this is broken and isn't going to solve anything. What if I was at home or didn't come in to help? What if a mom wants to buy alcohol but can't leave her child in the car?
Add: Just went through Walgreen's and the lady at the desk said that she used to work at Walmart and quit because of the same ridiculous reasons. She said that the actual rule is that you have to stop any group that seems suspicious...
So it is discrimination!

7 RepliesOk something similar happened to me at GameStop , Christmas Day my cousin came back from the army and he wanted to get me a game for Christmas so we went to the mall and I ended up getting advanced warfare since I had already every other game I wanted bought before lol so when we get to the register the manager tells us to both show our IDs to him but why?? I'm eighteen and my cousin is 21 and we don't look younger than our age so it's like wtf? What if I wasn't going to play the game ? Like did we really need to show both our IDs to buy the damn game? This never happened and if anything I've actually have never had this happen before!

6 RepliesYou can buy booze in Walmart in America?
-
Dude this is standard thing, its expected /all/ places do that. Trust me, I've had to deny things like that before.
-
Happened to me at a Walmart down the road from me when I was buying a 12 pack for myself. My buddy came with me to get some things too, and they wouldn't see it to me because he was underage. What I'm saying is it happens in Ohio too

1 ReplyIt's legal for parents to permit the serving of alcohol to their children in Wisconsin, so technically this would be exempt from family members

Dude this has been a thing where I live since I was a kid. I always remember having to go to the car and wait.

1 ReplyYou're right, that is pretty ridiculous. But...
So it is discrimination!
You have no idea what that even means do you? These days, I guess everything is discrimination, violation of rights, etc.

11 RepliesJust for the record, most states allow you to be 16 and drink if your parents consent.

2 RepliesEdited by CrazyNDNS: 5/2/2015 4:06:40 PMActually all the cashier saw was two guys trying to buy alcohol and one was under the legal drinking age so by company policy he had to refuse the service. Then when your father explained that you were his son the situation changed.

attention Kmart shoppers

Everyone pop your collars cuz we're gonna spank some pansy bitches!

1 ReplyThat's illegal. As long as the person buying is 21 they can't refuse because of other members in the party. Shit in Louisiana I can bring my kid, however old they are, to any resturant and buy them a beer and legally the resturant has to serve it. The only way they can refuse is if we/me/him are visibly drunk and the staff feels we are a danger to ourselves.

I work at a walmart but never heard of that rule only the regular card if u look under 21.

5 RepliesEdited by jdshoemate: 5/2/2015 3:07:54 PMThat's bullshit. Policies like that are state to state or store to store, and are only to be enforced if the cashier has reason to think that the underage person will be drinking it or is paying for it. Like if you hand your friend the money before he checks out and the cashier sees it, or if y'all are talking about a party at the register. The whole time I worked for Walmart I never heard about this policy, actually heard some amusing stories about people buying beer and having 4 kids or some shit with them. Edit:never let Walmart detain you. Under any circumstances, its illegal as -blam!- for them to do that.
