The only time you should use Gally is- When your team kill the last oracle and get times vengeance, when the team are running to the middle, but him with a rocket so you don't affect anyone else

It's a communication thing. Discuss it before the encounter. If everyone is ok with using rockets, fire away. If they want to snipe, be considerate and be part of the team.

I like ghorn but usually use LDR since I am usually the only one with ghorn. And more DPS with LDR.

This is so retarded. Havent done hard AE in a while, but never had an issue with downs whether people use Gjallarhorn or not. If your team is going to down him in one cycle, a few people Ghorning him arent going to make you miss that often thay it suddenly need 3 cycles. I get what youre saying. Maximize sniper accuracy. If you really need to go that far to ensure a down, something else is wrong.

I've been trying to run VoG at least 3 times a week since I joined a clan earlier this year and what the OP said is 100% true. Unless you have a team of at least 4 Gallys, nobody should be using Gally on Atheon. There is nothing worse than everyone calling out their builds just before the fight starts and that one guy decides to use Gally even though everyone else is using sniper rifles. The only time that we've taken Atheon out in 1 time's vengeance is because everyone was using snipers and Weapons of Light. I haven't done a full gally run at him yet because RNG has only granted 2-3 for the people that I usually run with and we usually go with a build that uses SGA for oracles. If you don't have over half the team with Gallys, your guaranteed at least 2-3 teleports to take Atheon down, meanwhile 4-5 BH or IB will take him down in 1-2. One of the things that everyone also seems to forget is that explosive rounds also cause Atheon to dance around. I get picked on by our team because when we roll from Gatekeeper to Atheon when someone calls the switch weapons, I always add make sure that explosive rounds are off too since a lot of people tend to forget if they're using Word of Crota (not to mention you lose the precision shot bonus with explosive rounds active unless that was fixed in 1.1.2).

Down him in one go with all snipers. 2 ice breakers, 2 black hammers and I used effrideets. WOL of course, but it's easier with snipers as he mainly stands still :3

Killed atheon on hard with one times vengeance. I used ice breaker, two of my team used gally, the other three were sniping and Holding relic, it's really not that hard to crit him while he's moving. I agree with you though, if everyone used icebreaker he would go down faster.

Let's say two of your snipers are awesome and never miss even when Atheon is dancing (this is for those of you that seem to think it's silly I can't crit Atheon while he's dancing), the other two guys miss their blackhammer shots...your 30k Gjallarhorn actually just cost us 40k worth of sniping damage. And if you had fired a shot there too instead of that rocket, the total damage for just that one shot would be in the 60k range. Another quick way to get around it if you want to use a heavy, use a machine gun, thunderlord or SGA will do the job just fine
