Forbes on HoW

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/03/20/what-destiny-must-deliver-in-its-house-of-wolves-expansion/ Forbes bring up some pretty good points. DB and HoW seem like they were originally part of the launch destiny, but cut for what ever reason. I highly doubt we will see anything new reguarding the first and last two bullets. As far as the exotic upgrades are concerned, their idea seemed like the most logical route to take, and something ive been advocating for a while. It could even be expanded into vendor gear which I will touch on below. Next, all of Xur's exotics should be removed, replaced with other useful things to spend coins on. Along with the current RNG, exotic items should come in the form of bounties . In my vision, an exotic bounties would appear from the bounty vendor on a per person basis daily. With a random exotic offered if you are flagged for a bounty that day. Only one exotic bounty can be in your invented at any given time. With any given bounty able to be completed that day if need be. Pvp oriented armor and weapons would be mainly completed in the crucible and viseversa for pve. Bungie could have fun for what you have to do. The ghorn bounty for example, could have you go out and assemble your wolf pack through various activities. As for the vendor gear in HoW, the vendors should sell 36 light gear and 331 weapons. Upon completion of the arena in normal you would be awarded a currency. You would then apply this currency to a desired weapon or armor piece in trade for an extra upgrade bubble. Weapons would be upgraded the HoW max value. The armor would give you enough light to where a full set of upgraded vendor gear would net you a level 33 character. Let me know what you guys think, or what you think could be added.

    • To date, nearly every single boss in Destiny is a just giant version of an existing enemy. Even if the battles themselves are serviceable, the lack of creativity in design is just astounding. If House of Wolves debuts and the bosses are either giant Dregs or Shanks, I’m going to lose it. I’m not asking for Zelda-level creativity here, but please, design something that isn’t just an existing enemy model scaled up by 400%. True Story...

        • Would it calm people down if xur sold random legendaries every week? One weapon of each class? Is it the whole idea that xur is selling an exotic that has people so worked up? Like, I have something and I don't want you to be able to have it unless you get it randomly after 5000+ hours like me? Is that what the gaming world has become? Personally there are a ton of legendaries that I would love to get my hands on in terms of weapons. But don't sell raid gear! That would cause yet another uproar! What if xur only sold mats. You know, the exact items everyone always complains about getting for rewards.

        • Yep and I like the exotic bounty part and I believe that some exotic bounties should make you go back to the Vog and Crota after HoW drops so it keeps those raids alive. Like for Vog you have to do hard Templar without dying and you complete that part of the bounty and then next you must kill 3 of the blue sword bearers in crotas end and then next part of the bounty Also I believe that you shouldn't know what exotic bounty you get just like you don't know now (unless you search what the name means on YouTube) As for the gjallahorn I am fine with that randomly dropping and it being a exptic bounty but the better exotic weapon you get from the bounty (which you don't know what it is) then the harder it should be. So if a bounty takes you a day to complete with medium challenges then you know it isn't that good of a weapon. As for vendor I like that idea plain and simple it should be hard to get the armor but at the same time not impossible simple as that And for the mother -blamer- xur he can still sell exotics and weapons but they won't be up to the new damage cap Also to make sure all the "elitist" who brag about nothing but there gjallahorn in the raid and the new strike there should be a major part where enemies take no solar damage only arc and void PUT DOWN YOU GJALLAHORN's FOR A WHILE (I have 3 myself)

        • I already feel like there are a lot of different currencies and tokens in the game (motes, glimmer, coins, shards shards shards...) so having another currency would just kind of irritate me. Just my opinion though.

These are different species of Aliens here, I mean why would a big bad guy differ so much in appearance. It doesn't make sense to create something completely different just for a boss. Xur not selling heavy? Why not? Some people use strange coins just for that. Playstation payed, Microsoft didn't. Blame Microsoft not Bungie on that one.

            •
The author is a Forbes contributor. The opinions expressed are those of the writer.
i.e. This is essentially someone's blog, not Forbes magazine (although with better writing since its hosted on Forbes' website). That said he makes some good points, and some bad ones. In no particular order: - Liked the idea of Xur being split up a bit. - making CE gear not be obsolete is jokingly easy. Make vendors sell 36 light gear. Give new HoW raid 42 light gear. Maybe give HoW quest (like Urn quest), for a 39 light gear armor piece. Make normal mode for the new raid be level 32. Didn't have a piece of CE gear? Buy vendor gear! Want to get to level 34? Get CE gear or vendor gear to get to level 32, then run raid. Want to get to level 33? Get two pieces of maxed level 34 gear. - upgrading exotics. Bungie doesn't need to add a new "super slow to fill" node. They just need to relock/unfill all attack/defense nodes while leaving any unlocked perk nodes alone. This would have the desired effect of leaving the exotics functional "as expected", while giving nodes we can unlock in progression (as we already do) to up the exotics to the next level. They are already halfway there with TDB since upgraded exotics had better att/def/light then unupgraded. The only real complaint people had was that the exotic perks were relocked, negating any time and materials put into the exotic.

            • I believe TDB and HoW were split up to make more money, and to cut out last Gen systems. They knew people would buy the expansion pack that guaranteed two DLCs. Activision figured if we don't cut the original game into two parts, we will need to carry older Gen systems for a lot longer than we should, costing more in development. I'm all for exotic bounties. I'm for any type of quest/Bounty to open the game up.

            • I like the idea of bounties for exotics we already have it for some so why not all. It would be a challenge to complete the harder ones and feel earned rather than just getting it from the shitty rng. I like some of my legendarys better than most of my exotics being able to upgrade rather than eventually lose them would also be good

            • The design of Destiny isn't to form walls between the various game modes but to encourage players to participate in all of them. In World of Warcraft, the PvE gear was garbage in PvP and vice versa. This required two separate gear grinds for people who wanted to participate in all activities. It makes balance more challenging to have gear be able to be used both places (you see this with how shotguns are now handled), but it makes it easier for players to have a more well rounded gameplay experience. I honestly don't think the design for exotic gear was to be the "best in slot" or "required" for certain encounters, but to allow players to customize their characters in a situation where only certain gear would get you to level cap. RNG works for the latter but doesn't for the former. Speaking of exotics, I think most of the community (the silent majority that isn't vocal in the forums) thinks Xur is a lot of fun. There are a lot of people who scape together coins for Friday, not looking for anything specific, just for one new weapon or piece of armor to play around with. The challenging part of balancing Xur is keeping things in check for people who play 3x characters while not making things out of reach for people who play just one character.

              • Activision hit its yearly high stock price of $24 just before Destiny was released. In the two weeks following, it dropped 25% to $18 by Oct 14th. Ran up to $22 pre-Xmas. Back down to $18 in January. It is now nearing that $24 mark again. 7 months in, $1bil in sales, and they are just now getting back to their annual high. Just wanted to shed some light on what Forbes readers are probably more interested in than in-game currencies and how exotics are leveled.

                  • A couple questions: Why does Forbes have such a fascination with Destiny? Did everyone from Joystiq go there? From what I read it was basically a snapshot of Dark Below. How does that make an article? In my opinion the writer lives the game, yet points out many of its flaws. I guess an article praising a game that was released back in September likely wouldn't be published.

                      • I totally agree with the point on the vendors. I nearly lost it and actually stopped playing for a few weeks because they took all of my god dam progress and shat on it. I never hit level 30 before ce. I was taken aback and -blam!-ing pissed that all of my efforts were for nothing. I should have just stock piled crucible and vanguard marks and never even touched the vault of glass. Instead I spent hours gathering teams and going at atheon. I felt cheated. By a game i know right? Crazy but, as a player who pretty much solely played this game back then I was pissed. But, my friends dragged me back a few weeks into the crota dlc. If they sell better gear than crota, I'm gonna burn it down. The whole tower. I'm gonna blow a hole and let the fallen and hive rush right it. And know what. I'll laugh the whole time. We'll -blam!- me that's a rant.

The issue I keep hearing is that we as players think we have the right to say how the game should be, yet in reality this is Bungie's vision and they're sharing it with us. I'm starting to think maybe this is really the case and although Bungie listens some, we don't respect this thought process much. That being said, I think it's clear to all of us, and hopefully themselves that most of their game was extremely short-sighted, yet a product almost perfect in a sense of capturing the result of this ADD generation. Even developers can't see past their own plate. I really hope some of these massive changes come along, but I think it would be naive to expect them before at very least the "major expansion" in/around September.
