"Kick him, he doesn't have Gally"
I've ran sword on hard mode quite a bit. And I've joined a lot of games where they desperately need a swordbearer because they're all too afraid to put down their precious gjallarhorns and just try it. I've put about 800 hours into this game and have yet to drop a Gally, or even a Hunger. I'm still rocking a tracking Admonisher III. So it kinda makes me angry when I join a game and I hear "Kick him, he doesn't have Gjallarhorn.", "Nah it's okay he's running sword."
I've started immediately leaving games that pull this shit. You don't even need 1 Gjallarhorn to take down Crota. I admit, I've been in games where everyone is using one, and it makes it pretty damn easy to down him 3 times in one go. But it is absolutely not necessary. I joined a group of guys that warned me that they were gonna use nothing but Dragonsbreath to test the effectiveness vs gally and I was all for it. We killed him first try, no wipes. That's faster than most of the runs I get in with Gally elitists. I also helped out a group of friends who had freshly made 32, but none of them had any tracking rockets, or even exotic rockets. One guy only had a blue rocket. I told them we were gonna get it done, and told everybody to rock Ice Breaker. 3rd wipe in, we beat him, and 2 of them got Gally. One of the best moments I've had in this game to be honest.
Just stop being tools about a game ran by an RNG and help out the people that haven't been as lucky as you are.

Actually joined a group that has only had a handful of raid attempts between them and 3 low level characters. I joined on fresh run to be their swordbearer. Was very entertaining and they were asking questions, and wanting to learn. Apologizing when they died. We laughed it off and kept going. Got to crota and looked at what everyone had. 1 truth. 1 non tracking blue rocket. 3 machine guns with horrific stability. They said I could back out and appreciated that I went thru and showed them the earlier stages as some had never made it that far. Nah. Explained what we were going to do next and said no worries. Just hit him with everything you got. Was interesting to be invisible right next to crota and see all the random things flying at him. Had to adjust and pay attention to when he actually started to kneel, but played it safe. Beat him first try. 2 gally's dropped and 1 hunger. Needless to say, I hung out and listened to the celebrations and yells of excitement. Was Def one of my fav moments. Just a group of people wanting to play with no requirements.

Mate i done the same i dont have a gally and only got a tracking rocket on a crota raid and got hunger not long before how dropped. So i ran sword and now i have improved my skills and become accomplished at doing it. If you dnt have a gally or tracking rocket run sword at the end of the day its harder and you get more sense of achievement when you drop him for the first time. Oh i have played for 20 days so not like im a noob.

Edited by Averag3: 6/17/2015 4:21:00 PMAs someone with 3 g horn and 2 hungers, honestly people that need it are stupid or really bad the only thing g horn is good for is making a boss fight faster, and on crota it's nice, but unnecessary hunger gets the job done anyway actually any legendary rocket does.

Let me tell you something sir.. I earned my 6 gjallarhorns! With that being said, I always run the sword to help out my friends to get one from crota himself. You don't need gjallarhorn. Just 3-4 rockets is all you need to down crota(or two gjallarhorn rockets) Anyone who says they do are scrubs and false elitists.

I love you man! I dont have either gally or HoC. So running sword was the only way I could get in groups. Eventually my sword skills got me some new awsome friends and I joined their clan.

There needs to be more people like you, I made my own clan because of this problem and have helped alot of people grind raids since. Keep it up

Agreed. I just used etheric light on my hunger yesterday so I don't have to burn up my exotic slot with a gally.

I don't get the whole must have gally thing sometimes... If the players do their role and stay alive then who cares?

Gjallarhorn is a great weapon, no denying that, but some people just worship it too much. In the end, skill plays just as much a part as the weapon itself.

It sucks now because before I got gally I always got kicked even though I lasted longer in the raid than anyone else

Only time I tried crota hard no one had ghorn and we dropped him just fine. Only sword bearer kept dying, it was 2am and we were all stuffed but proved you don't need it. Just aim.

Gally is for people who don't want the game to be "too hard" for them. Ice Breaker is probably just as good anyways. You always have ammo.

Was on LFG today and saw a post that required Max Grimoire and max ghally for VoG hard mode. This dude had to be trolling because seriously?! Wtf?!!

If you're on PS4 i wouldn't mind helping you through crota, it doesn't matter if you have gally or not (honestly I don't care about tracking either) but I wouldn't mind helping

Dattodoesdestiny and his team did Crota hard and VoG hard using only the Vestian Dynasty, grenades and supers. Bad kids rely way too much on a few weapons and strategies.

3 RepliesI saw a post on a VOG hard mode recruitment thread that made me kind of mad. It was like this: Need one for for fresh run. Must be 31+ with maxed g-horn. If you are so bad that you need to be 31 with maxed g-horn, you shouldn't be raiding. Getting g-horn is 100% luck (unless you bought it from xur) and shouldn't be a required item. People freaking worship the gun like a god. They're all elitist who use at a crutch. When people get it they brag and think that they're better than you just because RNG shined a light on them. If you need a whole team of g-horns to take down Crota on hard, you're not good. A whole team using HOC will take him down the same way and will allow you to use red death. I don't want xur to sell this gun because I'd like to get as a drop. But if it would make all of you elitist morons out there shut up about g-horn being a requirement, I'd be absolutely fine with it. If you require a player to have g-horn for someone to play, you're a scrub.
