I just watched a video of a sword bearer getting 3 hits on Crota each time. Crota enraged on hit 15. Why is it common wisdom to get a 4 slam attempt in on one sword? Isn't 3 hits per down easier and less risky?
Edit: the consensus seems to be is that it is a good insurance move if you miss a hit. Anyone else thinks it is safer to just play it conservative and get 3 each kneel? If you are good at timing and start the hits as soon as he kneels, it gives you ample time to cloak or escape.

I find that using my hunger Crota enrages at 14 hits every time. I go do 7 the first sword, 6 the second sword, then finish him with 5 the last sword. I do it that way to allow room for error later on. I know that if needed I can hit 8-9 hits fairly easily in one sword but if you're going for 6 each time and you fall short once you'll be pretty much screwed on making t up later.

On normal, two downs in one sword with three hits each time for two swords is a guarenteed kill.
-
I get a slash and 3 smashes in for the first 3 downs, and just 3 smashes for the 4th. Sets Crota up nicely for the last sword. I used to get the slash and 3 smashes for all 4 downs but sometimes he enraged early, no idea why I did extra damage sometimes. Did hear a theory about normal melee moves actually damaging Crota so if you blink-strike early you may add extra damage, but haven't tested or noticed. Want to try and bladedance him when he is down, at least once just to see.

Edited by spoon: 3/11/2015 4:26:44 PMI usually just go for 3 on each kneel if it is taking our team a little while to get the sword but if everything goes right I go for 8,4,6 the last sword isn't that big a deal as long as you know you can finish him he will enrage after the 5th knee and you have enough time to go for the 6th and finish him off before the oversoul does its job

Some times the sword bearer likes to go to weird place making you lose time, which causes Crota to rotate before the sword is done. Or your team shoots him too early and you can only run up and get 1 or 2 hits on him. Getting the extra hits when you can is a good way to still win when everything doesn't go perfectly. As long as you count your hits it isn't a bad idea.

It's better to get more hits in at the beginning. If a mistake is made then, no big deal. As you progress through the fight, nervousness, anxiousness, and anxiety start to take over which will result in a higher chance of a mistake happening. Reducing the number of hits at those times will ensure success. Plus if you get hits in at the beginning, there is more room for error if there is a glitch or if Crota gets back up faster than he's supposed to. 3 each down will work, but if you miss one, you have to make it up somewhere. I'd rather that be at the beginning of the fight rather than when enrage has already hit.

Cuz sometimes the fireteam cannot down crota fast enough. Thus I might have to to 4 hits to give myself some playing room if something goes bad.

4,3. 3,3

4 is just as safe for some people. Do what ever ur comfortable with just dont cause a oversoul

2 RepliesI was running sword in a hard raid and one time (at band camp), I smashed him three times each kneel. Everything was perfect. He should have died during the last kneel. But as Crota does in hard mode, he starting acting funny and decided to get up early causing my death dealing blow to be cancelled. If you run three slams a kneel you are going to be cutting it close with Crota himself AND the Oversoul every time. You've seen the vids of teams getting wiped by the Oversoul even though they killed Crota. It could swing the other way on you. If you can lower his health closer to enrage before the third sword, you are better off in my opinion. It's gives you some breathing room, so to speak, there at the end.

U can get 13 heavy hits on him before ogres, without him enraging.. so u can take it easy when u give him the last hits..
-
2 RepliesJust to ask, how many hits does it take to kill him and is it at the enrage stage that everyone fires everything at him?
-
I go for 4 every down and ease off when I need to, gives you room for error if a Swordbearer goes hiding and you can't get him down twice on a future sword run
-
I hit 12 times in first sword
-
If its my clan mates 4 but if not 3
-
3 works just fine, only exception is if your going for a two sword kill...if not why bother.

1 ReplyEdited by platty17: 3/11/2015 9:58:20 AM5 hits are even better. You kill him in 2 swords.
-
I go 3 - 4. Going for 4 hits the second round I don't feel is risky at all unless you have a delay in between hits. Once you get comfortable w timing it's not a big deal. However, having a couple insurance hits is why I do it. Sometimes you don't know if a hit registered or not. So far I haven't had that problem yet, but I'd rather be safe then sorry later.

I always do 3 hits run to the rock wait for team to shoot and repeat. Its pretty risk free on any class.

12 Replies4+3, 4+3, so you're at 14 after sword two? Then you get him next sword maybe? Not sure, never swordbore.
-
1 ReplyI prefer 4/4 sword one and 4/0 sword two. It allows the rocket team to preserve rockets for ogres. Then they can pop a synth for last attacks.
-
It's easier to get a total of 13 hits on 2 swords (he enrages at 14) and then finish him on the 3rd sword after ogres.

Edited by aliasK: 3/11/2015 9:31:24 AMI've had many instances where crota may have moved on 2nd sword 2nd downing or sword glitched or something but bc I got 8 hits on first sword we were still in the green for the kill. I don't need to count hits. I know exactly where his health bar enrages at. Hashtag true sword runner

4 RepliesMy theory: Because sometimes you can't get in that 18th hit because the sword disappears. Like if you only need one more sword and the swordbearer in under you guys in the middle. That takes away time from the sword. Also when crota enrages that takes away a little time from the sword too. So if you could get in a set of four. You would only need 2 to finish and won't have to worry about not having time with the last sword etc.
-
3 RepliesIf you drop Crota 3x per sword after the first sword you have 12 hits on him, then you are almost guaranteed the kill on the second
-
If you do 4 each down, you can potentially get him in 2 swords or otherwise 2.5 swords. For example, get 8 on first sword and if you get a super in, do 8 on second and he'll be dead in two swords. Let's say you miss the super. On the second sword, just down Crota once and hit him 4 times. He'll be at 12 hits. Go to ogres. Then on third sword finish him. This saves your team some rockets as you don't have to down him twice on second sword.
