So when choosing a mission from the map, it gives you 2 options, to resume or to restart if you have a checkpoint active. Whenever I chose to restart the mission it always put me in at the checkpoint, so I figured it was broken, but I just found out what I was doing wrong. I noticed when I choose resume, it selects the default difficulty, then I go and choose one with heroic and select it as normal with 'A', but this time I selected the difficulty with 'X' and lo and behold, I get a message telling me progress will be reset and the mission starts from the beginning. Can't believe it took me this long to figure that out!

2 RepliesThanks for this info. This was really frustrating me. The killer for me was the Divisive Mind mission bounty I had over the weekend. Had the save point for this area, but of course the Divisive Mind wouldn't respawn. I then had to complete the entire mission (killing the 3 Progeny whatever they are--end mission for PvE) in order to be able to start from the beginning so I could complete the bounty.

1 ReplyWhat are you talking about?

This is a really helpful and informative post. I bet this user is really handsome too.
-
People are just finding out about this 6 months in... lol wow
-
Been playing since Alpha and I never knew this lol. Thx

6 RepliesYou gotta be kidding? If anyone barely found this out you are a -blam!-ing disgraceful noob.
-
WHAT!!!??? I've been restarting at the base level, then going back to orbit after it restarts, and then choosing a higher level. This is so much better. Thanks!!!

1 ReplyFor everyone saying "I thought this was broken", it clearly is broken. The UI is broken since it gives you no indication what you're actually supposed to do. Thanks for the useful info. I suppose having the functionality exist in an esoteric way is better than not having it at all. This is made significantly worse by Bungie seeming to not be aware of it themselves: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12314 Looks like the programmer, the UI designer and the documentation writer all need to sit down and have a chat about withholding secrets.

I assumed this was broken. Thanks for this. Restart should, you know, restart the mission.... Dumb.
-
7 months it took you to figure that out? Pffft hahahahahahaha

6 RepliesOne annoying feature about this is that it will take you to the latest checkpoint you have ever been to in the mission. For example, this weekend my group got to the Templar checkpoint on HM VoG and then we broke up, I decided to go to the Vault again just to make sure I had the checkpoint. Lo & behold, I went to the Gorgon's Chest instead, due to a visit I had paid to that checkpoint earlier in the week. This also happens when more than 1 person is playing, it takes them all to the latest checkpoint anyone has saved. So for the Venus Archive mission, when I had a checkpoint to the final room, we had to restart the whole mission in order to complete a bounty on defeating the Servitor out in the hallway. I'm still discovering these things, and I've been playing since release day. Don't feel bad and ignore the troll replies.

Hmmm, never noticed that, will have to try it out. Cheers

I was about to come in here and make fun of you for making a post that everyone knows. Then i saw how many people still didnt know this, so I guess good post lol.
-
You just made it so much easier thank you
-
So you mean I don't have to restart it on Easy....wait for the mission to start....go back to orbit to start the mission over on hard....and then wait for the mission to start again?! You have saved me minutes of my life, good sir.

1 ReplyCompletely blew my mind. Thought it was broken too. Thanks man.

8 RepliesIt's amazing how many people don't know this. I figured it out a long time ago, because I have a brain.
-
You should add a bit for PS# You have to select both the mission *and* the difficulty with Square to reset, too me ages to figure it out, horribly unintuitive.
-
Wow. I never knew this and I was a beta player
-
6 RepliesIt never seems to work for me on the harder levels, just the easy one...
-
Holy shit that helps a lot
-
I've known about this since shortly after launch, however, I still run into people that dont know this, even day one players. I'm sure this is helpful info for many.
-
I spent a few minutes trying to figure this out a month after launch (when I figured out bounties would help me get legendary stuff faster then RNG). I knew there was a better way to restart a mission then booting it up on normal leaving then booting it up on said difficulty

5 RepliesChristmas noob did you seriously just figure this out? Wow.
