Edit: Please read edit 5 before going on about firefly on FB. I know what it can do, and that's only situational, usually on thrall alone, not every other enemy.
So I decided to do a little field test, using both handcannons, to find out which one did most damage.
The test ran was on my Hunter at lvl. 32.
Both WoC and FB are maxed (Pictures shown).
Both handcannons do not have explosive rounds on (to better record damage output).
Enemies were loaded on "The Archive" mission at lvl. 30.
Results:
Fatebringer Precision Damage: 1505
Word of Crota Precision Damage: 1540
Word of Crota > Fatebringer
Edit 1: Lots of feedback guys, keep em coming!
Edit 2: As for my personal preference, WoC for CE Raid against Majors, AND VoG against minotaur shields. I prefer Atheon's Epilogue for Voidburn nightfalls. Fatebringer for everything else, that outlaw+ chain if woe × 3 is clutch.
Edit 3: 184 replies and counting, surprisingly lots more people prefer WoC than I thought, pretty cool!
Edit 4: 210 and counting!
Edit 5: Yes, Firefly is a good perk, but most of the time enemies will not willingly cluster together, except thralls. So you get a nice boom show for most of your headshots
Edit 6: 300+ comments, woohoo!
Edit 7: 500+ Replies. Lol

That damage is no difference Firefly > word of Crota Nice try lol
-
Honestly, why doesn't anyone factor in RoF? Word of Crota fires faster AND hits harder, so there's no argument to be had in terms of single target DPS.
-
8 Repliestest ran by a guy who has only 23k HC kills overall.... SOOOOO credible......
-
It obviously is better. I just like the firefly
-
1 ReplyMy new favorite post, thanks for sharing! If you ain't gonna "ROC the WoC" then GTFO people!
-
35 more damage, oh shit
-
3 RepliesOk, so 35 more damage, but now factor in firefly.
-
Edited by The Big Doogan: 3/1/2015 1:14:15 AMThe Word is only better due to it having that extra 31 damage over the Fatebringer. However, if you compare the Word to really any other 331 handcannon outside of Void burn Nightfalls and CE it's pretty bad
-
Fatebringer is simply unbeatable. Outlaw immediately makes it the top hand cannon as you aren't spending half your time reloading behind a wall. Then there's firefly... Try taking down 10+ thrall with one round from word of crota, just aint gonna happen. That being said Word of Crota does have its very limited uses such as against the deathsinger and sword bearer.
-
1 ReplyDoes WoC have more impact than FB? I know the attack damage is higher by 31. It isn't like 35 damage is a big deal anyway. Plus FB has those explosive rounds ;) Both are awesome though!
-
6 RepliesAtheons epilogue , lol. Trashiest gun in the whole game
-
What you are not figuring in is the firefly perk of fatebringer. Shooting one bullet takes out an entire pack of thrall acolytes and dregs. It's hard to compare that. They both have there strong points and I use them both equally anymore.
-
Finally got my first fatebringer after playing for a long time now (got 3 WoC) and it's by far the coolest primary in the game. Even if others are more powerful, fatebringer is just too much fun and for nearly everything the best choice!!
-
2 Replies35 more damage out of about 1500. It's actually laughable at this point
-
Peoples only thing with the fatebringer is firefly, but that only really truly helps with hordes of thrall. Most things don't sit side by side by side and if they are close enough together it does like 15 damage to them. I like WoC better. Handles a little better in my opinion.
-
Firefly Outlaw and would much rather have Arc.
-
4 RepliesRange, firefly, reload speed. Duh. If it's a one hit anyway who gives a flying fish what word of crota's damage number is? Also, firefly multiplies the DPS for each nearby enemy. Did I mention firefly? Firefly. And outlaw.
-
Edited by underhill: 2/28/2015 11:43:43 PMFatebringer is on a tier of its own. If you don't understand why, and focus solely on this oversimplified DPS "test," then you're utterly clueless when it comes to the game mechanics.
-
Ok, now i just need WoC and i'm set
-
1 ReplySure it does a bit more damage, but the perks on fatebringer are much more useful, not to mention arc damage is way more useful than void for most things in this game. Not saying word is bad, had fun last void burn nightfall with it, but for most thing I still think fatebringer would be the better choice. Nothing wrong with either gun though, both solid handcannons.
-
5 RepliesSingle shot dps, the word does a whopping 2% damage more than the fatebringer. How on earth does that make it better? My no land beyond crits for more than that with a single precision shot. Does that make it better? In all the scenarios you would want to use word, fatebringer would be a better option, barring elemental damage type. If anything, you proved fatebringer > word of crota
-
31 more damage you moron
-
The extra 31 damage adds about 200 plus with the impact but since word of Crota has a less impact it does a little over fate bringer but if word of Crota had a higher impact it would probably be 180"
-
Lmao that's nothing, I'd much rather use fatebringer and have firefly and do lots of aoe damage
-
3 RepliesA massive 2% increase. Wow.
-
Lmao the fatebringer with firefly is easily 10x better than the word.
