Edit: Please read edit 5 before going on about firefly on FB. I know what it can do, and that's only situational, usually on thrall alone, not every other enemy.
So I decided to do a little field test, using both handcannons, to find out which one did most damage.
The test ran was on my Hunter at lvl. 32.
Both WoC and FB are maxed (Pictures shown).
Both handcannons do not have explosive rounds on (to better record damage output).
Enemies were loaded on "The Archive" mission at lvl. 30.
Results:
Fatebringer Precision Damage: 1505
Word of Crota Precision Damage: 1540
Word of Crota > Fatebringer
Edit 1: Lots of feedback guys, keep em coming!
Edit 2: As for my personal preference, WoC for CE Raid against Majors, AND VoG against minotaur shields. I prefer Atheon's Epilogue for Voidburn nightfalls. Fatebringer for everything else, that outlaw+ chain if woe × 3 is clutch.
Edit 3: 184 replies and counting, surprisingly lots more people prefer WoC than I thought, pretty cool!
Edit 4: 210 and counting!
Edit 5: Yes, Firefly is a good perk, but most of the time enemies will not willingly cluster together, except thralls. So you get a nice boom show for most of your headshots
Edit 6: 300+ comments, woohoo!
Edit 7: 500+ Replies. Lol

I personally don't have the fb but I do have the woc. Fb has been one of the most talked about weapons on destiny. Even with lower stats it's still a beast and everyone wants ir
-
Dude fate ringer is better
-
Why are you so out to prove its soo much bettr
-
The aesthetics of woc are cool but they often get in the way when firing rapidly
-
Even if they dont stand close enough together that they get killed from the firefly perk, the enemies are still being swept off their feet. Which makes it very easy to hit them next. Who uses primaries on majors anyway?
-
That's pretty weak. I would think the gap between the two should be larger. How disappointing.
-
6 RepliesYou're kind of comparing base line weapons if you're ignoring the perk that makes the weapon stand out. Fatebringer is made special with the firefly arc perk. It's the best firefly in the game. It chains unlike the void or solar firefly weapons. It's like saying the GHorn does less damage without wolf pack rounds unlocked than hunger of crota.
-
2 RepliesId take 35 less damage in favor of firefly in every situation except maybe hard Crota fight. Firefly is NOT situational, most enemies regardless of type like to group together constantly.
-
But a boom show still better then no show.
-
just like one of the greatest tv shows FIREFLY
-
4 RepliesYou're so stupid it hurts.
-
6 RepliesThis argument is cute. Timur's Lash beats both.
-
not to mention "potential" dps for woc is much higher with phantom
-
Both are good guns. I have 3 maxed word of crota and 2 fatebringers. I still use fatebringer more because i like how it looks more then word of crota and the sound is better imo. Word of Crota is good against ultra's where as Fatebringer is better on crowd control. When i see these comparison threads , i always start thinking about why the hack switching guns is this hard on Destiny .

Edited by Sovereign: 3/1/2015 12:17:11 PMHere's the thing... Doing a little more damage does NOT make a weapon better than another. If straight up damage per target was the only factor...then sure. However, that's simply not the case. Perks make a weapon, more than damage output to a target (so long as it is not a great deal). While WoC can do more damage to a single target, it can take you 5 to 10 shots on a group of thralls that fatebringer can make moot in 1 shot.
-
Personally I love WoC for the crucible! It lets me use truth or gjallarhorn which are a must for long range rocket shots, and it fires fast like the last word, and depending on what I want to use I can buff the reload speed or the range.
-
3 RepliesWord of crota is garbage. The only time it leaves my vault is for void burn and those stupid psion/Minotaur shields in nightfalls. Fatebringer over WoC any day.
-
I always use fatebringer in the abyss.
-
in destiny numbers dont matter... everything is dulled down for its target seller (kids) agun might say it does 331 but puls rifles were garbage at 331 till (1.1.1) they are now useful, but still have a 331 cap.. lazy and or rushed mechanics. if you ask me 1.1.1 should have been a feature on launch day. you never turned in a fuking presentation in class and came in a month later and then carried on about you project.

Edited by DrKrFfXx_: 3/1/2015 10:57:48 AMWe already knew the damage per shot of each weapon. Did you really needed to "run field tests" to find out?
-
The only problem I have with WoC is that it doesn't feel instinctive when aiming any sort of follow up shot. Where as with FB I can follow up crit shots on a boss quicker than when I'm using WoC. I think it may be because you loose more of your view from the recoil/design of WoC compared to FB. That is just my opinion though.
-
Word of crotas recoil is too vertical, I like it better but fatebringer will always be better
-
That just proves that WoC has higher attack. Whichever HC is better is a matter of opinion. You can't prove an opinion as right or wrong.

18 RepliesLol 35 damage
-
11 RepliesLmfao.. It does 2% more damage and the perks are awful. .. But yeah guys!!!
-
9 RepliesWow a whole 35 damage... And fatebringer still has better perks.
