Edit: Please read edit 5 before going on about firefly on FB. I know what it can do, and that's only situational, usually on thrall alone, not every other enemy.
So I decided to do a little field test, using both handcannons, to find out which one did most damage.
The test ran was on my Hunter at lvl. 32.
Both WoC and FB are maxed (Pictures shown).
Both handcannons do not have explosive rounds on (to better record damage output).
Enemies were loaded on "The Archive" mission at lvl. 30.
Results:
Fatebringer Precision Damage: 1505
Word of Crota Precision Damage: 1540
Word of Crota > Fatebringer
Edit 1: Lots of feedback guys, keep em coming!
Edit 2: As for my personal preference, WoC for CE Raid against Majors, AND VoG against minotaur shields. I prefer Atheon's Epilogue for Voidburn nightfalls. Fatebringer for everything else, that outlaw+ chain if woe × 3 is clutch.
Edit 3: 184 replies and counting, surprisingly lots more people prefer WoC than I thought, pretty cool!
Edit 4: 210 and counting!
Edit 5: Yes, Firefly is a good perk, but most of the time enemies will not willingly cluster together, except thralls. So you get a nice boom show for most of your headshots
Edit 6: 300+ comments, woohoo!
Edit 7: 500+ Replies. Lol

Edited by The Loathsome Dung Eater: 3/1/2015 6:24:15 PMFatebringer is better for just about every situation. You don't have to kill 10 mobs with firefly for it to be worth it, even if it hits one mob near the explosion for 500, then there's over 2k damage done on one shot. Stability in my opinion isn't really overly necessary on a hand cannon. You don't (or shouldn't) be throwing shots out all willy nilly, you take your time and aim. And reload is a non factor since the outlaw perk should always be up when you need to. A boss is one time you can spam shots, but that's what I have black hammer for which is far superior than WoC. In short, my WoC is really only used for void burns. Minotaurs get the Swordbreaker treatment now since that tears them a new one. For CE hard mode drops, Fang of Ir Yut is a much better everyday use weapon. P.S. He aesthetics of WoC when aiming seem really bulky too. To me, the extra width makes it harder to aim properly as it is different than every other hand cannon to date.

7 RepliesFatebringer- Gjallarhorn of hand cannons Word of Crota- Dragons breath of hand cannons Both are nice but one will always be superior

Edited by RoscoePurple: 3/1/2015 6:28:09 PMNo field scout = runs out of ammo way too fast. Same as with gjallarhorn, it isn't all about damage

40 points of damage < firefly Rekt
-
If fatebringer maxed out at 331 then the word of crota would be even more of joke than it already is
-
Timur's Lash all the way! /thread

i like thorn over both

Edited by cq13: 3/1/2015 4:16:43 PMUmm firefly isnt just for crowds. If i get a crit kill on anything and theres sometjing next to it, it could either kill them as well n or do significant damage. I get over 55% crit kills so its not really situational. Unless you consider more then half the time using it situational.
-
I use both but prefer FATEBRINGER and most people who have both will agree
-
Word of Crota has conflicting perks, bad reserve ammo, clunky sights, and a weird recoil pattern.

5 RepliesEdited by MaRTiaN PRieST: 3/1/2015 4:19:36 PMSo you tested two guns with different damage stats to see which one does more damage........?

Firefly + Outlaw + Explosive Rounds. lolWordofCrota

3 RepliesBut the perks on the FATEBRINGER are so much better then word of crota
-
2 RepliesSo basically what you're saying is...your opinion is based on the damage to vex. Lol. Fatebringer wins all day. When nightfall is level 32 I'll still use fatebringer just to prove you wrong
-
If word of crota had the perks of fatebringer it would be 10x better... Woc is obviously better against level 33 enemies etc
-
Yea I noticed this when someone was using fatebringer and I was using word of Crota asked how much damage he was going and blam figured it out , kid fatebringer you only get that perk for oracles in vog, word of Crota and major takes extra damage
-
I love them both

2 RepliesEdited by ravager-911: 3/1/2015 11:02:27 AMIt should be, from the attack level difference alone. TDB weapons are disappointing, for the most part, compared to the 1st gen weapons. The post releases should be better than their predecessors, including Exotics. Btw...The Fatebringer is still my fav, regardless. I'll still use it, even if it's only for patrol missions.

18 RepliesWhy do lots keep going on about FB being 300 attack vs WoC being 331 attack? He tested both on lvl 30 mobs so both weapons were 100% effective! 300 attack refers to the weapon being 100% effective against lvl 30 mobs where as 331 attack is 100% effective against lvl 33 mobs. A 331 attack weapon doesn't do more against a lvl 30 mob.

3 RepliesFor a measly 35 extra damage im not willing to give up firefly.
-
Pffft 35 dmg diff so what?
-
1 ReplyThe Fatebringer is better still if they both had 331 damage woc would be energy to everyone
-
1 ReplyGo home your drunk. Fatebringer forever. But seriously I will always take my fatebringer over most other handcannon. The firefly perk in a handcannon is just too good to give up.
-
Only thing i like more about the word is its easy to chain crits. Other than that, fireflt and more impact make fatebringer my go-to. Maybe the word will change my opinion when its fully leveled
-
Wow I thought the word would do a lot more damage than that. I guess I would have to go fatebringer bc of firefly.
-
I personally don't have the fb but I do have the woc. Fb has been one of the most talked about weapons on destiny. Even with lower stats it's still a beast and everyone wants ir
