Gjallahorn is NOT necessary
I'm sick of the players who think Gjallahorn is necessary to complete Crota's End HM. On a thread about things you hate to hear in the raid, one noob said "I don't have Gjallahorn". I've completed the hard mode twice, and both times NOBODY had Gjallahorn and we got it done just fine. It has become a crutch that scrubs and shit players believe is necessary to beat the raid, like crota's shield is immune to everything else.[spoiler]No, I don't have Gjallahorn. Yes I'll buy it when Xur sells it. But not having it doesn't bother me in the slightest [/spoiler]
Edit 1. I get how good Gjallahorn is guys, I'm not saying it doesn't help. Of course it does. But the raid is still very doable without it. The biggest difficulty in the hard mode is not getting Crota's shield down. It is staying alive (although the window tactic makes even that pretty easy)
Edit 2. LOL So many people claiming I'm jealous about not having a Gjallahorn. It just lets me know how many of you use it as a crutch rather than a convenient luxury.
[b] TLDR: If you have Gjallahorn, congratulations. Use it to your heart's content. It's a great weapon, but no content was designed specifically for Gjallahorn users, so don't restrict or deny access to players without it (unless they suck anyway :p ). [/b]

I use my hunger 95 percent of the time so I can have another exotic to use. I really only bust it out on crota or if someone asks me to equip it.

I totally agree, if you have a solid team who knows what they're doing, and has on-par gear, you don't need G-horn. However, from firsthand experience, I gotta say... it did make a helluva difference when we did have one. Made things go faster and smoother. But it absolutely wasn't necessary, OP, you are 100% correct.

I would never kick someone for lacking a weapon, the horn does do some incredible damage though

Of course it's not necessary. It just makes it so you don't need to use as many rockets to get him down.

1 ReplyIt's not necessary, however it makes downing Crota MUCH more consistent and easier. That being said, if you can load your groups with ghorn, why the hell wouldn't you? So sick of reading posts about kids who don't have ghorn cry about how it's not necessary.

1 ReplyI had like 3 parties in a row that just couldn't so it. We all had horns I believe in both parties. Joined another party where I had the only horn and 2 people even had like vendor rocket launchers. They were using ice breaker and I figured they would not kill sword bearer. I sighed and used a heavy synthesis knowing it would be futile. We 1 shotted it then switched characters and did it again. I will never judge by weapons again.

Gjallahorn is great and makes a big difference on the sword bearer but If you're doing it right the only person using their rocket on the sword bearer is the sword carrier. Everyone else should be hitting him with a sniper as soon as he walks by the rock. After that you only need your rockets for Crota & ogres and 4-5 HoC are just as effective as 4-5 Gjallahorns. It's great two have a few but when people want the whole team to have one its just dumb. It's not like this is Atheon that yiu can kill in one round with all Gjallahorns

Any heavy with tracking will do. I was doing hard crota and a guy kept missing him with his rocket launcher.

I agree, with enough of any rocket he goes down and that frees up space for exotics to be in a more important position. IE red death, Suros or Ice breaker

Agreed. Hunter of crota or anything that has some kind of secondary cluster bombs helps. I used the hezens for a while, although not great was decent till I got hunger

2 RepliesAs long as you have a 331 tracking rocket you should be sweet. Proximity Detonation at the very least. There's not much room for error on hard and if 1 rocket misses because Crota moved a little it can ruin your run

How many 331 legendary tracking rockets does it take to down Crota on hard? That is the question.

It's useful but not the only way. I seen a group pull it off without rockets.

6 RepliesI keep telling people I have a maxed G-horn, but once they see I'm a level 32 Hunter, they always make me carry the sword (which I'm not great at). In other words, I have yet to beat Crota on Hard.

3 Replies2 shots from a Ghorn or 5-6 from other launchers? I run ruin wings with a ghorn and take crota down myself in the hard mode so no one else needs to use heavy. They use the other heavies on round 2
