Light level, let's face it.

It was probably the worst idea in history of mankind to associate light level to armor. In particular, ONE set of armor. Instead Break light level off the armor, and make it so that Infusion orbs can drop from strikes, crucible, nightfall and the raid. Crucible / Strikes / Nightfall Infusion Orb Tier 1 Raid Infusion Orb Tier 2 Hard raid Infusion Orb Tier 3 (instead of helmet, still needed for a helmet) ------------------------ With this system you can make any armor part level 30: Common 3x Tier 1 orbs, 1x Tier 2 orb Uncommon 2x Tier 1 orbs, 1x Tier 2 orb Rare 1x Tier 1 orb, 1x Tier 2 orb Legendary 1x Tier 2 orb ------------------------ Rarity Infusion Orb Tier 1 is as rare as any Legendary engram. Infusion Orb Tier 2 is as rare as any raid gear. Infusion Orb Tier 3 is as rare as the hard raid helmet. ------------------------ Orbs could also be represented as a material that you can obtain from dismanteling Legendary gear. Tier 3 Orb could be obtained from the Hard raid helmet. Edit: I forgot to factor in an Exotic armor part, so a second Tier 3 orb should be required to reach level 30. Or something... Input on that?

      • Yes please so that those of us that don't care to raid every day every week can still have a place in Destiny. Same shit they pulled with exotic bounties and forced pvp. They're making us play it their ONE SINGLE WAY instead of allowing us to enjoy the game in all of the ways we like to play and have fun. -blam!- this grind fest.

        • All I am hoping for is the chance to make a common or a rare armor a top tier legendary by destroying a piece of raid gear for it. It's boring to see everyone with the same armor all the time. Characters would be much more unique looking that way.

        • Why waste tier 2 orbs on a commons, uncommons and rares when only 1 can make my gear legendary?

        • I'm (almost) universally against adding new 'currencies' and upgrade items to games. They're fairly impenetrable in the first place; if you go back to most MMO or MMO-style games, you'll have no Goddamned idea what's in your bag. Also, I think that mooring this to armor at all is ridiculous. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, of all things, handled this very well. They originally had gating mechanisms which meant that you needed to get certain pieces of armor to build a Lesser Ward, Greater Ward, Superior Ward, Royal Ward, etc. Five pieces to each ward, corresponding with five main armor pieces. You had to wear the armor to get the piece. After a while, they realized that this severely impacted build diversity and quality in a negative fashion; you had to wear Lesser Ward to go to Greater Ward content, you had to wear Greater Ward to go to Superior Ward content, etc. The thing to do for this is what WAR did, when they realized the problem: attach wards to experiences. For Part 1 of the Lesser Ward, either equip the LW Helm, which grants the ward immediately and permanently, or: Kill 1000 players in RvR lakes Kill 100 players at least 2x your rank in RvR lakes Beat (boss that drops LW helm) 5 times This gave PvPers the ability to gain wards (which were required for certain PvP activities, too!) in another way, as well as allowing people who ran Lost Vale over and over and over and over again, never finding the right piece to complete their ward, an endpoint that they could work towards more and more every week. For Light Level 21: Equip one fully-leveled Legendary Helmet Equip any 4 leveled Rare armor items of level 16+ (measured by slot, not simultaneous) Kill 2500 Fallen with melee Turn in 15 Crucible Bounties and 15 PvE Bounties after 20 Gain 5 MVP ranks in the Crucible ...etcetera. This would allow people to gain a Light Level without slapping certain gear on. For Light Level 30: Be Light Level 29, and 0/1 Equip the Vex Mythoclast 0/1 Equip Kabr's Battlecage 4/5 Kill Atheon Hard 0/1 Kill Atheon Hard in a single phase 0/1 Kill every boss and enter Atheon's room without dismounting your Sparrow 4352/6500 Kill Guardians in the Crucible 38/50 Consecutive Tiger Strikes without dying 0/1 beat DeeJ in a Sparrow race from the Steppes to the Mothyards... the long way. ...etcetera. Pick some weird, zany things to throw in there. Add an achievement or some account rewards as people unlock more, even after they're Light Level 30. Give people a way to progress and improve their gearing even when they've already rolled shit in the Raid this week. Goals people can work towards. Less random garbage, more rewarding investment and gameplay. Adding orbs isn't the way to do this. Encouraging engagement with content is both better for players (who will have more ways to interact with limited content) and developers (who can deliver more bang for their content buck), not to mention reducing the reliance on RNG drops.

          • I agree that light leveling was a horrible idea, mainly because you can exploit the fact that gear can be transferred between characters and in turn transferring all the light associated with that gear. Your idea is a nice alternative but may be tedious and confusing to some people. Bungie just needs to bring the game back to the traditional leveling system and just have gear at different tiers.

          • I dont like the light thing at all, it caps the rpg part (levelling you char) at lvl20. Does this mean there will be no more exp to gain for your char? Do we have to wait for Destiny2 so we can start all over again but level to 30, and then use light again to get to 50? Once you have played through the story, the only thing left is getting gear. And lots of grinding to get it. Thats why this game feels so short, and adding just 2 levels with the dlc will hardly change this. People will get bored again in no time, but at least there is another raid to grind (weeee)

Don't really understand why Bungie tied armor to light level. It would make more sense if armor strictly affected a player's stats (defence, discipline, etc.) and provided perks. When I see someone wearing armor it just tells me what they did. Raid gear: that guy did the raid, Iron Banner gear: that guy did Iron Banner. No clue as to how they performed in said activities. A player's level isn't an accurate reflection of their skill. I can understand taking part in the game's hardest activities to acquire the best gear but said gear should provide the best stats/perks, not a level increase.

          • They made light levels so nobody would ever be under-leveled or over-leveled. It makes it easy to make level minimums, just imagine some 30s going into the raid with rare gear.

          • My beef with it is that what if I wanna use a armor piece that gives me faster reload speed with hand cannons, but if I want to get to level 30 then I have to use an armor that I don't want to use (raid, IB, Exotic). Reforging, armor customization, or being able to give an armor more light would be a nice feature.

          • i never done a raid, you should be able to reach 30 doing crucible and IB, not everyone gets a hard on for raids... the game quickly became a chore the way its set up atm, this idea has merit tho.

            • I don't mind my gear determining my level. It means that if I want to reroll my character's gender, I only have to spend a long Saturday grinding out level 20. I'll have to earn my vendor levels back, but since the stuff I can vault was the whole point of those guys anyway, it's not really that big of a deal. I would like a way to change the appearance of my gear, sure. That'd be cool. Gear is just a gate, really. if you want to play the raid on Hard, sure, you'll want to have level 30 gear. Patrol Cosmodrome? Wear what you want. I've got an Ahirant Type 4 just for the occasion.

              • I do kind of like the idea of light level for maxing out. I don't like needing a specific set of gear to hit 30. The iron banner gear helps diversify a little bit, and so do exotics. I was expecting more diversity in the tower and everybody just gets funneled to the same set of gear.

                  • This all can be easily fixed by an additional slot that makes the equipped armor look like the armor part you put in the special slot. Problem solved.

                    • Better idea after lv.20 we find these infusion orbs (they can be chunks of the traveler or whatever) and we apply the orbs to ourselves to increase our level. Armor is now just icing on the cake to give us better stats and our light level is tied directly to our guardian.

                    • I like the light concept in general but i am also not a fan of attaching it to armor...i wish you were infused with the light at the person level so you could wear any gear but the raid gear would have best armor/perks
