How do we make the Gunsmith relevant again?
I feel sorry for the Gunsmith. Standing behind that counter all day. Nothing to do. No one to talk to. (Except maybe a lvl 8 character) maybe the occasional Exotic Bounty lead.
A couple of my ideas:
[b] Allow him to upgrade weapon levels[/b]. The Stranger's rifle is cool, but at lvl 16 it lacks punch. What if I could upgrade it to 17, 18, 20? 300 attack on the Khovostov? Think about it!
[b] Allow him to change the elemental effect[/b] Let me take a rocket launcher that I like. Maybe its one that upgrades to the triple clip but it's only a lvl 18 with Arc damage. I could use my glimmer to get it to 20 and then change it to Void.
The fact is I don't even care if it's expensive. Give me (and the Gunsmith) something to do with my marks and glimmer. I'd pay 5000 to level it up. I'd pay the same to change the elemental. And I don't know if glimmer is the best fit for upgrade currency, the developers know best on that one, but let's put this guy to work again.
I hope he's on salary, cause if he's getting paid by the hour, bungie, you need to let him go.

1 ReplyGets my vote. More weapon upgrades and customising the better. It would be great if you could somehow pick the weapon weapon perks you want from the available pool after a suitable amount (probably a lot) of grinding. The majority of purple items I don't want and have no interest in owning, but if I could put the attributes and perks on them that I want - that would be something worth putting serious time into. And if Bungie read this I'll tell you something you already know. Serious time = addiction and $$$$$

If Xur let's us upgrade exotics, then the Gunsmith should do the same for legendaries

They should just rename him to Ammunition Dealer.

A weapon customiser would be awesome. Give your favourite weapons a personality, that unique edge bungie talked about when they first launched Destiny.

Need to make it so you can go to the gunsmith for....personal touch ups to your weapons.

Implement crafting weapon and armor upgrades and schematics for gear that require materials to build. Give him special weapon upgrades that you can obtain from him and also re-skinable weapons and gear, kind of like seperate weapon shaders or camos.

The same reason real gun shops are interesting, he has to have something hanging on the wall that you can't afford yet.

Perhaps he could sell element type modifiers that could be added to rare or legendary weapons to give them elemental damage - sort of like the sparrow module that Xur sells that converts a rare sparrow into a legendary...

Stand on the table in front of him and he'll give you head, always causes a few laughs prior to a hard raid.

He sells rare fusion rifles...useful for people doing the pocket infinity bounty

Sell weapon parts for the time when you don't have enough to upgrade all your Legendaries.

2 RepliesHonestly, i think him selling legendary guns for 15k-25k glimmer would be reasonable. More likely the full 25 thousand since glimmer is kinda easy to obtain/farm. OR being able to change at a perk on any gun(excluding exotics) for max glimmer. Would make the guns vary so much, players could play how they feel comfortable. Swap out that "send it" for armor piercing. things like that

I like every idea you've got listed. I would be perfectly fine with them being very expensive as well. Hell, now that we don't need energy to upgrade exotics, maybe we can use energy as a currency when it comes to upgrading or changing elements. And motes of light can still be used to reroll. Overall though, good post. Nice to see something constructive on the forums.
