@DeeJ
You've seen a countless amount of these threads, I get it. You are definitely doing your best to communicate with us, but we need you and the rest of Bungie to come down to our level and let us know some things and answer some questions caused by the recent information leaks.
Before I get started I would like to say thank you to you and Bungie for delivering a beautiful game. It's extremely polished and the gameplay mechanics are unbelievably fun. The Vault of Glass is absolutely genius and the most fun I have had in a video game in years. I don't care about matchmaking for it, as it should be intended to make players want to gather a solid team and work together for a long amount of time, matchmaking for it wouldn't be ideal at all.
Moving on.
You've called the poster on Reddit's AMA a "troll". I'm sorry, but the community doesn't believe that. Looking at the first ViDoc for Destiny, the information from the supposed tester and the answers from 404 Architect, we can only logically come to the conclusion that some, if not all the things said were in fact true.
I don't care about DLC information, or the "placeholders" showing up over last weekend like some of us here, as I can't wait to do them and will be purchasing them as soon as possible. I do however care about what has obviously been gutted from story-related missions and the campaign itself.
First of all, after reading everything that has come to light involving the missing or cut content, it seems to be a hilarious slap in the face that the Stranger tells us that "I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain", or that the Speaker tells us something along the lines of "I'm sure you have many questions, but we need you on the battlefield."
My biggest problem has to do with the Factions. Why are they even there in the first place? Supposedly they originally were intended to have their own side quests or story lines that either did or didn't have anything to do with the story. If that portion was cut, why are they even there at all? And if the plan is to expand on them during DLC, again why have them in the game at launch?
Why is it that we are given little-to-no explanation as to what is actually going on in the story? Admittedly, I'm not the type to buy a video game for it's story, but you guys advertised this as a space epic/opera with MMO elements and that is what sold me. So, why have you decided to leave us with about three and a half cutscenes that leave us to try and make our own assumptions as to what is going on?
Where is this "Crow" character that was obviously planned to be a main character in this campaign, as not only evidenced by the "tester", but in your ViDoc as well? If you scrapped him for the Stranger, then what was our character's motivations to believe her? Or what does the Speaker think of her and her group that we have not seen? She speaks of different sides, and she does not have a Ghost, but in the end it seems that her and the Speaker have similar goals? And if that is the case, then why are they never seen together and why does the Stranger feel the need to stay at a distance from you in the beginning of the game?
Alright, I'll believe that you may be planning on expanding on this aspect of the story later in the game, but things don't add up as they are now. Little things stick out, things as simple as your Awoken character having no idea who the Awoken are or what they've been through, to details like your ghost telling you that it was going to report to the Speaker about the things the FWC are having you collect.
Why is it that in the beginning of the game we have environmental hazards like trip mines and enemies crawling on the walls but nothing like that is ever seen again? There is literally almost no difference in playing a strike and playing a Firefight on Halo: ODST. Where is the creativity in the later battles? Or any creativity or diversity in the daily bounties? It seems rushed, if it was, then say so.
I think I speak for the community when I say that if things were intended to be different; then just say it. Let us know if the great team at Bungie are planning on rectifying story elements or if this is what we get.
Voice chat in matchmaking, proximity chat for the tower or on the planets and smaller things like that are no problem, we know that you can take care of these issues with minor patches and updates, but the damage to all of the story and side story elements has been done. If nothing is true within these recent leaks, you have to know that the seed of curiosity has already been planted in even your most loyal players. It needs to be addressed and not written off as a simple troll.
I also want to know if you ever plan on implementing anything to do with these clans we have been creating. Are you planning on adding a playlist specifically for clans? If not, then are you ever going to think about letting us have a customizable lobby so that we can set up our own clan battles? And if not that, then again I ask why give us these features outside of knocking out a couple of achievements? You're renown for what you did with this type of gaming in Halo, so why get rid of what you did incredibly right?
Finally, I'll end with saying that you at Bungie have created a hell of a prologue to what could have been, or could be, a masterpiece of a game. It's just obvious that what you originally intended isn't what we are playing. There are too many inconsistencies and too much evidence to believe everything that has come to light in the recent days is simply fabricated. Let us know what is going on, and if, when and how you all plan to move forward.
Thank you to all that read through this enormous post, I am aware that some people may have harsh words for me appearing as a whiner, but in my defense I will say that I have not had a single issue with the game until this bomb of information was dropped on us over the past weekend. It's a great game, I love playing it with my friends and it has entertained me for countless hours, I just believe that this great game could have been absolutely incredible.
I still have hope that it can be.
Sincerely,
A loyal Bungie gamer for eight years,
Schuyler B. (GT: Scheezy)

"The seeds of curiosity have already been planted in your most loyal players." That is so true and really, what I'm feeling. I am leaning toward all this Reddit stuff to be true. I just want to know why stuff that awesome was scraped and what was the reason. If this is all false, then I fear for the company I love and would chose above all others. Give us somethin Bungie. You don't us nothin, but you owe yourself to shut down rumors and defend your reputation. This is damaging you. You must see that.

An official answer would definitely be nice. I've played nothing but destiny since it came out and I still can't help but feel like there's something more here than just a simple troll.
-
Just coming in with a little bump, Bungie needs to address this thread and the associated issues. We can't let them get away with ignoring using and offering nothing but cryptic waffle.
-
I've had a think overnight about this post and decided that this time I'll wait for the reviews before committing any more money to destiny via DLC or otherwise. I think what's clear is that someone on the business side of the game development crippled the storyline for business goals, they've already made enough money and I'm worried that them making any more we'll tell them that cutting out storyline doesn't have an impact on sales.

2 RepliesEdited by Derity: 10/2/2014 12:22:13 AMI personally am way more concerned about the fact that the DLC content doesn't raise the Level Cap and therefore, by the time it all releases, MONTHS from now, a lot of us will be Level 30 and the new content will be completely pointless.... 90% of the leaked content isn't even higher than Level 20... Queens Wrath pt.2 anyone?

You guys remember the E3 demo for Halo2? That games story got gutted and it was great. I like Destiny's story and if bungie wanted to change it that's their prerogative. Personally I Think they just bit off more than they could chew by developing for all 4 consoles but considering all that what they did is amazing. I don't really care if they comment. More information is always good but if this guy is indeed a troll then if I were bungie I would let it pass too.
-
Let's keep this thread going UNTIL there is a response. Will bungie steer the game to it's full, intended glory, or is this almost B list game what we get for our money? YES? or NO? We're asking for 2-3 characters here (NO = 2, YES = 3).

I agree with you OP. Overall I think the game is fun but as a current Public Relations major in school the lack of transparency and communication with the community is unreasonable.
-
Great post and everything, i feel good teamwork and clanmates are what make destiny great! I am starting up a new clan and if anyone is interested in raiding strikes pvp or anything msg me and join up. No reason to wait for those big wig clans when you jsut want to get through the game on a normal pace!
-
I'll add my name to this. Well written post and I am actually enjoying Destiny but I would like answers if only to know that I will some day be able to enjoy it that much more. As it stands it will be a diversion for no more than a month or two, at which time I'll never think about it again.

/bump Idk how old this thread is but some of these are legitimate questions. As a consumer, I just don't want to pay another $400 to receive a full story on 1 game that could've been included in the original game (I figure maybe 2 xpacs a year with 10 year life, each at $20?). The only reason for my concern is that I was looking at Star Citizen and it looks pretty freakin good with only a budget of $55 million so far but I realize they probably don't have to factor as many employees as Bungie, etc. Any ways, hoping we could get an answer
-
Great post OP, I would hope Bungie would at least try to address the community's concerns, but every part of me knows they'll never even try to quell our fears and concerns.
-
Here's hoping he eventually does say something. We know he doesn't "have" to, but it would be really beneficial moving forward for the game.
-
Thanks scheezy. Because of the long post I initially skipped it but I am glad that I got back to it. I hope you get a response or maybe the community manager could address the story issues and leaks in his weekly update.
-
I agree. Destiny is a beautiful game that handles smoothly. However, I think that the content and story side are lacking and repetitive. I would like to hear only if this is what Bungie intends or if they are working up some big fixes in the DLC area.

A great post that had me nodding my head as to agree with every sentence. My friends convinced me to switch to PS4 Bungie (set aside the many problems PS4 has). *cough* friends joining parties = notifications, friends coming online = nope. Trophies don't show up right away when pressing ps button in certain amount of time, same with messages. MESSAGES ARE SO TERRIBLE. Takes forever for one to load and send. Can't change PSN ID. *cough* *cough*. After getting into Destiny, I co oped the story so I didn't really care for it's lacking, repetitive story as I was having fun. That aside, I did notice how it made ZERO sense and was dull, bleak and didn't keep me intrigued. I never play MMO or games like this usually, but I know they usually have a great story. Factions make zero sense and no missions are even for them. You'd think it'd be a three way battle, nope. I'd rather wait another year than get this. No story, no back stories, no clarification, hardly any cutscenes. Not much free roam room. Honestly, only thing keeping me going is.. Well I have no -blam!-ing clue. Please fix the story, why release a half finished game?? But you don't care, you got your money. Angry joe was right.. Or was he?? Fix this if you care because this could of been the greatest game ever.

I'm in the same boat as you. I loved the game and had very little questions or concerns about it until the leaked information said that the intro where you are brought back to life was originally intended to be the Exo's intro. It all adds up, this game lost its heart somewhere along the line but has managed keep a small fire of hope burning.

Edited by Wubs ♥: 10/2/2014 5:29:45 AMI love this game, but I feel like some time between last year and now, a lot of things were, lost in the dark corners of time forever. I feel like Bungie should at least say something about it. We deserve that at least.
-
Massive bump for a bungie response. This post is essentially the entire community asking for a response. Well constructed, I ask everyone to keep bumping this until a response is given by bungie.
-
Well said sir. This is perfect. Bump for you, and I really hope we get some sort of explanation for your hard work.

2 RepliesEdited by i3r3akd0wn: 10/1/2014 5:38:50 PMWell said. I have been having a great time in this game. Just yesterday I fell off a cliff on Venus because I was staring off at an erupting volcano. It is beautiful. That being said, I wish the story could be as great. To find out that it could have been something really special and for some reason was cut to bits and re-pasted into something else is sad, kind of heart breaking. The game really feels like it is on the verge of greatness. I think that is why there has been so much backlash. We were so damn close to getting something truly great. People don't want to tire of this game. I really hope Bungie can pull the threads of the story together. -Break

This post is to date the most respectful in regards to the questions it's asking of bungie. While I very much enjoy Destiny (scream shazam every time I use fists of havoc), I am concerned over what little story there is and would a little word from the crew on where its heading. Halo never really had many cutscenes but the story mixed with the gameplay is what made it sit on my all time fav list. If they were to add in some more comms chatter with story or even have our little ghost friend shed some light during missions I'd feel happy. In all I agree with OP and while I am truly happy with the game I am starving for more >< the action is awesome, the supers put a smile on my face and pushing fireteam members off a cliff while they inspect my gear is a my all time fav troll ^.^b

Thanks Sheezy. Im in complete agreement. I still love this game and I hope that it can get fleshed out. I just thing that Bungie needs to do some damage control. I will be purchasing the season pass (xbox) for the additional content releases but I think that maybe Bungie could use some of the proceeds from the incredibly large number of copies sold initially to "fix" the game and add that content back in somehow. As it seems that a lot of people who bought the game on speculation of something spectacular did not get what they paid for. So give it to them. Ill still buy the DLC after that regardless I just think it might make up for all the people that feel cheated. If they had waited for the reviews and that post by the architect they would probably not have gotten as many sales. They lucked out so do the responsible thing, fix it and dont charge us to fix an incomplete game. Aside from that I am satisfied with the game and sincerely hope for a legacy of content for this game. ~M
