In all seriousness, shooting games do not need anything to make it M.
-No normal person cares about blood in videogames. If you sense a strong desire to see blood, chances are you need a psychiatrist.
-Excessive swearing in videogames is also meaningless, because it not only ruins all dialogue, it makes me not take the game seriously, as I myself have better grammar and self-control.
-Sexual content ruins games by being completely out of context, and it is just awkward. Also, female characters with exaggerated breasts are a major problem in the gaming industry, as they depict women as sexual objects, rather than people.
-That 9 year old boy is getting the game regardless.
Therefore, there is no need for Destiny to be rated M. Thank you.

4 RepliesEdited by Destiny Cipher: 12/5/2013 8:47:52 PMLet's list the fallacies you made in your "argument". 1) You assume that there is an objective standard for what a "normal person" is. In the U.S. and Europe, first person shooters are an extremely popular genre; Battlefield, Call of Duty, Halo and so on. In Japan, however, FPSs are one of least popular genres, if not THE least popular. Why is this? Because Japanese gamers, by and large, prefer more lighthearted (but by no means childish) games. People have different reasons for wanting to see blood in a FPS: for many, it's not so much about the gore as it is about the extra level of immersion it adds. There is no "normal human". Just humans. 2) Your second point has two thing I need to point out: a) Depending on genre, atmosphere of the game, desired level of immersion, and theme, "excessive" can vary drastically. Take Battlefield 3. some people complained that the amount of cursing in the script was excessive. However, real soldiers DO swear just as much, if not more, so it's not excessive. b) Your argument on this topic is 100% subjective, and completely self-serving. The thread title is "Why Destiny should be rated T," but what you're really arguing is "Why I want Destiny to be rated T". You're not arguing on behalf of others who have the same opinions as you; you're just arguing for your own benefit. 3) Not once have I seen anything related to sexual intercourse regarding Destiny. This section is completely irrelevant. 4) And so will that 16 year-old boy that is as mature as a 9 year-old. Again, this is a completely irrelevant point.

Don't need sexual content, but he you make a good point, we simply know that there are fewer(still many) parents that will allow their kids to play M games, which lowers the high pitched kids that just get muted after we take the time to mute them. One thing pointed out to me was that the Fallen in the E3 Demo had sparks/steam(or smoke) come out instead of blood hen they were shot. Could be a very creative way to bypass the M rating and still give a realistic shooter feel to the game

And it's just because of these reasons it should be rated M, there's no reason to argue about it, this game is meant for mature people, not kids who've just reached puberty.

3 RepliesMake it M so it's harder for annoying child's to play.

Never understood why Halo was and has been rated M. It's no more violent than Star Wars and the games and movies have been constantly rated for teens. I'm sure this will hold true for Destiny.

those 9 year old boys will regret meeting me. ill tell them off and beat the hell out of them. i hate 9 year olds. they ruin everything, cod, halo etc.

5 RepliesI think game developers have gotten a little paranoid about the ratings and so whenever they can they bumped the rating up

For once I agree with you. Although I think the swearing isn't really a problem, and blood, while I don't new it to enjoy a game, does increase the effect of the kill. I do agree though. Especially about 9 year olds convincing their sub-par intelligent parents into buying them violent games. Get your kids outside playing sports and becoming men, when they mature then you buy them the games. Everyone I know who's played CoD since they were young is a fat weird kid now.
