The Portal is still boring and not fun (feedback and opinion)

The Portal has got to be the worst system we’ve gotten in this game since edge of fate. And every player was disappointed about how the portal has impacted the game and as well since this system pretty much is a failure in my opinion the portal hasn’t been that much of a great system to get gears and it’s even stupid that rewards and progression got nerfed for no reason the first week and second week of EoF. In my opinion the pinnacle system was just better than the portal since the pinnacle system didn’t punish players progression and time that much. Honestly how can I say though the portal has made me stressed and tired from its progression and time being too strict. It just feels annoying since these changes done to the portal of increased progression, decreased most power rewards on most activities that’s another reason why I get annoyed and tired of how its progression to a guardian to the max power shouldn’t be strict, and as well for most guardians when they’d reach minimum of power level they absolutely hate this really long progression and find it a burnt out the portal hasn’t done anything good to help guardians get their progression and power caught up. That’s honestly my personal opinion and thoughts about the portal and why I don’t like it and why I prefer old pinnacle more than the portal in my perspective I know I made this suggestion I’m sorry if I confuse anyone or if I’m not the best of typing my thoughts out loud . Let me know how you feel how the portal has impacted you let me know in your opinions and feedback if you disagree my opinion and feedback I can respect that.

  • I'm not a fan of the portal but I don't think it's the single factor that is driving players away. Personally, I don't like the activity scoring, it feels like a job instead of fun. We have all known for sometime that Bungie were working on Marathon, and a lot of us would accept that the studio may be spread a little thin and even that shadow & order had to be delayed, but if Bungie cared about D2 and it's players they could have done some easy things to lesson the blow. They could have reinstated the vendor resets they removed, they could have reinstated saint-14's legacy weapons, they could have put some minimal effort into Xur & Banshee's weekly offerings to feature older weapons with decent perks that are likely to interest players, they could have added a few more exchange items to Rahool like deepsight harmonizers. There is a lot of low hanging fruit they could have invested in with minimal effort, but they did nothing, which is why many players believe they are intentionally killing D2 off.

As of this morning, Destiny 2 is not on the top 100 steam list and Marathon is at 65 with around 34,000 players. Edit: Correction. Marathon is at 36 with just over 47,000 players. Destiny 2 still not present.

  • I get that the Portal isn't something Bungie can easily delete from the game. But with how disliked the Portal is, you would think that Bungie would at least acknowledge the hate and reassure us that they will get rid of it at a future date. But no. Instead of working to phase it out, it seems like they're doubling down on it between adding Arena Ops and more Tiered Loot. Even Sunsetting, Bungie at least acknowledged that it would be removed.

  • I agree Sadly Bungie dosent care. Its in Destiny because they wanted it for Marathon and wanted a test bed. We told them it sucked. They ignored us and moved on. Keep in mind their CEO’s mantra “Underperformance is key to success”

  • Destiny’s always had ups and downs—we all knew *Final Shape* marked the end of an era. But a lot of us would’ve stuck around. Even small, steady content drops would’ve been enough. Instead, the Portal and loot tiering reshaped the game into something unrecognizable. That’s where it lost people. When Bungie ignored the community’s concerns, players didn’t just complain—they left. In droves. Some are on hiatus. Some are gone for good. Clans—including mine—have completely disbanded. I still log in a couple of times a week… but I don’t really *play* anymore. Not like I used to. Not even close.

    • I played every day until EoF. But that update changed everything, and it just didn't suit my taste anymore. And after watching this for a few weeks, I've come to understand and agree with the many critical opinions. In addition, I think the problem is that portal activities are just too central. Daily and weekly challenges are almost entirely related to portal activities, and many bounty challenges have been removed. The portal rank rewards themselves are "good," and they're used to collect gear. Rookies are grinding low-power level portal activities, and veterans are grinding high-power portal activities like mice in a gear. Some people are grinding Crucible, but I'm not. Yes, I used to enjoy grinding weapons by doing Banshee-44 daily bounties in the field. Even when it was something like "Kill a few enemies," I would do it at the same time as exploring, admiring the scenery I found, and meeting new friends. Now there are hardly any people in the field. Of course, there's no point in being there. It's the developers' fault. Portal activities themselves may not be bad. Then it's simple: make all the challenges available everywhere. Portal rank is nice, but I don't understand why it's separate from Guardian rank. Sorry for the long explanation. Anyway, I think portal activities are too central and get in the way of other ways to enjoy the game.

      • It's terrible, and the player count reflects that. Funny how all these clowns defend it.

      • Power Deltas (aka handicaps), ridiculous modifiers and such. Yeah portals is just a slog to go through and the fact it gets harder and harder as you go up the totem pole just kills my drive to even try. So deleted the game and moved onto Division 2, scratches the itch well enough.

      • The portal should have been an addition to the game adding a place where they could bring back old content and give people the ability to add modifiers good or bad to content. Leave everything else alone, let's good viable loot drop everywhere not just the portal and screw the scoring system and forced timers and difficulty. That's should all be optional so people can truly play yhe way they enjoy. Instead of innovation they gave us trash and this is why no one is playing anymore. I wont play the portal and if the portal is the future i won't be buying anything from bungie. They pooped on us for marathon, a game that has lost 50% of its player's since launch which was less than edgenofnfate which is the absolute worst destiny expansion.

        • They need to either completely revamp the portal or scrap it entirely, there’s too many tabs and menus

          • It still blows my mind that Bungie were going to use a similar set up way earlier, but realised how utterly soulless and boring it was, so they wound things back. Yet for some reason they decided to not only bring it back, but market it as the future of the game. Apparently a lot of current staff have been there many years, so why didn't anyone bring this up? There's literally a video of them saying why it was a terrible idea.

I’m in the minority because i actually like the portal for how convenient it is. Having all the modes in an easy to see place is nice. Getting all our old modes back is nice too like savathun’s spire. What i dont like is how that matchmaking is limited to only 4 options instead of all the modes in the fireteam tab. Plus im not a fan of how the old loot rotated out so fast because i would like to farm smoke jumper armor abd mint retrograde again. I personally think people dont like the portal because of the insane power grind that was introduced with it when it launched and the modifiers never being good.

            • The portals intended to be a legacy roulette that stands alongside new content when it’s released. I don’t mind the portal all too much personally. But when I do sorts mind is the portal making the rest of the game feel secondary.

I had no problem with the portal. There’s still plenty to do in this game.🤷‍♀️

              • They don’t care. The young devs have to prove themselves and make what they feel is best for players as opposed to what is actually best for the players.

I don't know. For me, this is better than doing an encounter or activity that gives out one single piece of gear that can be a duplicate vs getting 4 or 5 items that are guaranteed to have most of them be something I need since one piece of gear will be higher than the others. I started playing to see if all of the stuff that people are saying is too hard is indeed too hard. Somethings are just tedious but, for the most part, it's a chill way for me to grind. That's just my opinion tho. Overall, people here got what they wanted. They can play solo and progress. The only things that suck are the deltas and lack of being able to overlevel

              • Maybe they were catering to solo players more? Idk I got to 550 all by myself and rank 10 and after that I kept telling myself "man this was a grind and was boring". So once I got to 550 I was just like time to wait for Dawning and stuff. It made me want to play alone rather than play with other people

              • There are some things I like about the portal, it’s great to past seasonal activities and exotic missions. I would say just those two things. Other than that it has a ton of negatives

I wish they would’ve just said “we’re done supporting this game, here’s the portal, this is how it’ll be.” The portal has its place I suppose (too arcadey/mission select for my tastes) but they sunset the director for an inferior system. Haven’t played in a month, and I’ll check out the June update, but I’ve got a feeling this is gonna be the last “major” update, and it won’t have staying power since there’s nothing on the horizon. I’m sad. I wish they’d just say it’s over. I think to myself, when was the last I played Destiny 2? When was it the actual final time? I think that’s coming soon for more than a few people. Sigh… (Onto Division 2.)

              • My problem with the portal is the obnoxious modifiers it's just not worth the effort... I do my daily and weekly flashpoint if the guns are the ones I want.... And lawless stuff but I haven't touched the portal in a month Plus...
