Respectfully, To The Bungie Defense Force

(Disclaimer: This is not me speaking for everyone, and there is a TLDR at the end if you don’t want to read my essay. But if anyone has an argument, I suggest reading my deeper points) Community backlash, not toxic threats, but genuine complaints about the state of Destiny 2, big or small, is how problems are fixed. It’s happened several times in this game’s history and in the history of other games. I’m saying this because we likely wouldn’t be in this situation with Destiny 2 being at death’s door if we as a community pushed harder against things Bungie committed to, such as “we won’t be delivering any more Forsaken-sized DLC moving forward” back in 2019/2020. That’s one example out of other critical things we should’ve been more vocal about at its time. (Important note: There are times when this community actually did really well with backlash and complaints, like when Final Shape was first revealed, and Bungie took the message and delayed it to make it better. So it’s not like we didn’t try as a playerbase. There’s just an issue that needs to be addressed.) The issue in question are the ones this post is dedicated to. The certain fans on these forums and some other platforms who, for some reason, defend against any form of criticism aimed at Bungie, treating it like it’s toxic and abusive to tell the SUPPLIER that their PRODUCT is not fitting the desire of the CONSUMER who gives them money. I understand that some of these people don’t like to see their favorite game being talked about in a negative light, so they’ll pointlessly argue with the fans who want the game to improve, but I personally would much rather have Bungie understand what we want as a playerbase loud and clear, instead of telling them “Yeah, thank you, Bungie. Lightfall was good enough. If you give us less content for the same price in the future, I’ll understand because making content is hard.” (TLDR:) The point is, there is absolutely nothing accomplished when telling “complainers,” who are really just people who care about Destiny not dying, to shut up and take what they’re given. If you enjoy Destiny in its current state, no one’s stopping you from doing so. But it’s objectively clear that the majority of people don’t like the direction Destiny has gone over the past year, and it’s because Bungie needs loud backlash to make changes. Let Destiny’s current, horrible, state be an example of what Bungie does when they don’t get enough criticism.
