When I read the TWAB me and my friends started talking about the shaders immediately. Our general consensus was that it seemed unnecessary and a little "greasy" (looking at you finance team), but that it was understandable.
It seemed weird cause their reasoning was that shaders are now 1 time purchases, but they have been one time purchases since collections was introduced, so nothing changed.
Then I remembered that just this season (season 13) Bungie buffed the amount of Bright Dust it was giving it's players, ONLY FOR THEM TO INCREASE BRIGHT DUST PRICES ONE SEASON LATER.
I have always been on board with Eververse. It's a good idea that let's Bungie make a free to play game, but this is just a "-blam!- you" to consumers.
It's obvious that Bungie realized that an increase in Bright Dust made it easier for people to buy an eververse set for bright dust, meaning they might only spend 15 dollars on one set instead of 30 to buy two sets. So they created a completely BS reason to increase the price of shaders in hopes that it would reduce the amount of Bright Dust people have left over, causing more people to spend 15 dollars on their silver sets.
At the end of the day, it's not about the shaders. I really don't care about spending a little more imaginary money on a shader. It's about the fact that I feel like I was tricked by a company who just wanted money. And it's about the fact that this is two steps back. This is the first domino that people ignore that leads to more things increasing in price and eventually things going silver only.
Thanks for reading :)

1 ReplyEdited by GreenfangXYZ: 4/23/2021 11:01:16 AMBungie still manages to surprise and shock their players with really bad decisions. Who is really gaining by this? The game is practically over, and in a post production phase anyway, and transmog or custom crafting etc. should've been a thing years ago. The worst part is community manager "dmg_04," basically gaslighting players expecting them to remain calm, and polite all the time when they are getting stabbed in the back like this. It's just like Chauvin vs. George Floyd in a way, Chauvin saying, I'll let you breathe, if you just calm down lol. If you don't, it's only gonna get worse! Omfg. Bungie is awful. Even though Luke Smith is on to something else, I knew Joegoroth would be even worse. GG. And don't forget, free is good, but your time and effort isn't free either. Destiny was once a very addictive game for me, but don't let them play on that.

1 ReplyIf folks think this is the first domino you might've missed a few blocks.

1 ReplyNext TWAB. IRL $20 for a haircut or beard trim using silver.

1 ReplyEdited by rancidman2: 4/23/2021 8:57:27 AMThey won’t be getting my 300 bd for a shader 🖕bungie Maybe If super black shader comes back 😂

Bungie made a wish with Riven... there's always a catch.

I too find this massive increase to BD prices for shaders nasty and scummy. They've upped BD prices of everything significantly, but a 600-odd percent hike to the items that were previously the cheap, easy way for them to get a small amount of the F2P currency out of our hands? That's bloody ridiculous and I hate it.
-
An awful and pointless decision. I also dreaded the bounty rework because i knew there was no way they weren't going to nerf bright dust income in the transition (and they did).

I agree also in the best scenario brightness gets discontinued and every bright dust gets turned into silver coins. what is spongy is having issues with money they need to be upfront about it so we can assist instead of them using improper tactics to squeeze money out of us. when Bungie's game is theirs and ours in a sense. they're only pushing people away.

Shaders weren't 1-time unlocks, they were 1-time bd purchases. You still had to spend in-game resources to use shaders multiple times, if they weren't world drops.

Edited by WulfPak666: 4/23/2021 12:52:05 PMMy favorite part is gonna be when bungie (hopefully) walks some of this back and the community will be all "yes! Bungie listens to us! Gg bungie!!" Meanwhile Bungie: https://youtu.be/-587SSUk_-U

Quit just after Beyond Light and I came back to this... guess I'll check back in another few months.

Willing to bet they are going to decrease the amount of dust you can earn as well. Not to mention you'll more than likely have grind just to equip ornaments you've already earned/purchased.

1 ReplyI think the shader markup makes sense, but not to the degree justifiable of a 7x+ markup.
-
Yeah, it make me wonder what's next they aren't telling us. If shaders are taking a huge jump in bd price then what are emotes, ships and sparrows jumping to? 3250 right now, and some are just shy of 5000. I feel like I'm playing a Ubisoft game now.

1 ReplyIts becoming a F2P model, for already paying customers.

Honestly when was the last time it had to buy a shader? Aside from maybe the odd one from eververse in a reset 🤷🏻♂️ You must, by now, have almost every single shader unlocked, no?
-
People buy shaders?????????????????????????

11 RepliesEdited by reenry: 4/23/2021 10:48:55 AMIsn’t that just Eververse shaders? And aren’t they permanent? I dont see an issue. Bright Dust isn’t an issue if you constantly play the game, do seasonal challenges, and invest time. Its just 300 for a permanent unlock. Not to mention just choose another shader. Most of the Eververse shaders aren’t that good. Especially if you have been playing for a long time and have shaders from Y1. Y1 and 2 shaders were pretty tight.

5 RepliesYeah it makes absolutely no sense. It's already a one time purchase for bright dust at 40. The change has almost no reason to happen. They are charging over 7x more bright dust to buy it because it isn't going to cost 2 legendary shards to buy them from collections anymore. How is that an equivalent? Legendary shards are EXTREMELY abundant. It has almost never been an issue. Even my my dad, who plays this game extremely casually, has over 3k shards. The asking price of 300 bright dust is nowhere near the very low price of 2 shards. It's pretty outrageous. If they upped it to 100, then fine I get it, but 300? Just no man.

6 RepliesThey didnt even increase the bright dust earned throughout the season. Sure the 10k from the season pass and 10k or so from seasonal challenges seem generous, but it still adds up to less than what we were earning earlier on. Getting 1200 a week on each character through vanguard, crucible, and gambit bounties was a nice and steady source. Now its 360 on each character per week... Someone ran the math back when these changes dropped in beyond light and someone who plays daily for the entire season will be missing out on around 15k dust. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/jkie5k/bright_dust_changes_coming_in_beyond_light/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Its honestly really frustrating to deal with price hikes bungie. I hope you go back on this planned change and stop it. Still haven't forgotten what you did with the trubute hall..😑

17 RepliesThey only “increased” the BD by hiding it behind an awful time-sink. How many players actually going to complete every single weekly challenge this season? Giving you BD with one hand, and taking it back with the other Gotta admit, their manipulative creativity is still in full swing and top-notch
