Bungie, I know I moan and groan about a lot of things in this game so I wanted to take a second to say something positive for once.
The new quest for Thorn, specifically the PVP portion, is a long grind to be sure. I'm fine with a long grind. But I'd like to thank you for removing the "deaths impede progress" bit from Last Word and Chaperone. This current quest is taking me a long time, because I'm bad in PVP. Very bad. But it's giving me a reason to keep TRYING PVP, and that's good. The other two were so disheartening I nearly quit the entire game because of them. I hope this means the end of "deaths impede progress" and a trend toward more fair quest goals.
So, credit where it's due, well done on this one.

7 RepliesSo in place of death not impeding they make it take 100x longer and you thank them? Yeah ok. Make sure to breath when you go down. Wouldn't want bungie suffocating you
-
9 RepliesThe whisper quest was a quest and weapon done right . Thorn is a needless grind for a shit reward . Not well done bungie ... ffs

Its actually a horribly done exotic quest at some points. You can either take a week doing most of the steps with bounties, suffer in pvp which is currently a septic tank of trash thanks to the quest, or do activities that are annoying to grind. Then you get to the pure pvp part and it’s absolute trash. Not only is the void/hand cannon part an unfinished grind that’s too much but it’s what caused crucible to be awful. The whole “it gives me a reason to keep trying even though I’m bad” is bull shit and you know it. If you’re bad getting better would be enough drive for you to keep playing if you wanted a reason to keep playing. I’m not good in the crucible, I hate the crucible, and I don’t want to be forced to be grinding out kills slowly against a swamp of four guns. And the quest forces that awful pattern with its restrictions. A good quest is the Drifter/vanguard loyalty quest line. 25 kills is a reasonable amount to ask without pushing it. The thorn quest goes way past annoying and becomes boring.

39 RepliesEdited by Skill Privilege: 3/13/2019 7:33:18 PMThe PvP portion of the quest is terrible. Two hours, 4% It feels like my sole function is to spawn for others to kill me and earn their Thorn. I'd rather outsource that to an AI bot and go enjoy myself doing something else.

3 RepliesPepperidge farm remembers the First Curse quest. A 7 kill streak with a shitty white hand cannon was hard af but so satisfying to complete. It made me a better pvp player
-
O have to disagree, they shouldn’t be praised for making mandatory unnecessary steps. I paid my dues in D1. Now I have to pay them for the opportunity to get endlessly frustrated in pvp again? I don’t care that the death reseting progress part is gone, it still takes just as long to complete or longer, especially if you’re like me and can barely function in pvp. Just tired of Bungie forcing game modes. They nailed it with the earlier steps in the quest because you could choose pvp or pve, why change that in later steps? It’s just annoying and frustrating, I don’t feel accomplished afterwards, just annoyed.

When you are playing crucible just play it and have fun but focus on getting better at it and eventually you will be pretty good at it. But sweat your balls off in comp you just wanna win there.
-
To be honest I think most fo the quest part was just a boring grind. Yes it is more achievable for below average players than The Last Word quest. But the quest to me was basically go play PVP as you normally do for hours until you get to the strike, It wasnt exciting or particularly fun to go through until the strike at the end. I preferred the challenge of getting kills and deaths taking away progress. The original D1 quest felt great to complete because it was quite a bit of a challenge. Its way more rewarding to complete. Also these kind of quests help improve peoples skill in progress and make you think more about surviving and playing smart. Just my opinion though :)

19 RepliesYou obviously didn't do the Thorn quest in D1 if you think this is a grind. Getting void kills as a hunter with no void subclass was a nightmare.

Took me two and half days to complete because I have a job. I suck at PvP. I played for 3 hours on the quest before I went to work and got 30% before I left for work on Tuesday. Wednesday is one of my days off and I spent nearly 7 hours doing the rest of the PvP step for thorn and then went to play GTA online with old friends I haven't played with in a long time. It's not grindy but if you stay focus and have zero distractions you can get it done. But i say fix the requirement or better specifi how much percentage you gain doing the quest steps. Seriously if people knew they would have to get two kills per life to make one percentage with a void handcannon and perscion kills or use any void damage they wouldn't even try to do the quest. Also screw comp as a better way to earn percentages for the quest. Remove comp or put the pinnacle weapons in quickplay.

I'm on the oposite side. I freaking hate how most of the weapon quests are forcing you to play pvp and then pve and then pvp again! It is very frustrating. I especially freaking hate pvp. If i want to play a PvP game, i would play Apex or Overwatch or Battlefield or whatever games are still out there. There was a reason why classic old MMOs had a separate pvp game segment with completely separated pvp item table.

1 ReplyI dunno man. While I say "bravo" for not having death penalties for this quest step...I hate that they slapped us with the crazy grind required to complete the PvP portion. I got my Thorn on day 1, and I'm quite avid with PvP....and it was a Grind for me. Not enjoyable at all, even though I like PvP. For someone who never touches PvP except for "maybe" milestones...??? This portion must suck...really really bad. Even though you don't have penalties for dying/losing, this portion is going to take a good long while to complete for them. Maybe even a couple of weeks, depending on their overall skill level and ability to not rage quit within 2-3 matches. I think they could have cut down the PvP Void/Hand Cannon kill requirements by like 30%, and saved some player's sanity's....
-
3 RepliesSo far the only problem I've run into was the first step, there are no Warlocks in the Crucible to kill, no one plays Warlock in the crucilble.
-
...I think it's about time someone locked this thread, lol.
-
wait PVP Quest? No, stop it.
-
33 RepliesInstead of penalizing you for deaths they make it painstakingly slow. I would much rather take the penalty and be rewarded for good play than to have my 30 match participation prize.
-
Took me like 3-5 hours the pvp solo q on quick play and comp. Quick play was faster.
-
Why so damn long just to get headshots???
-
7 Repliesonly bad players cried about "death resets progress" and as usual bungie caved to them. shame.
-
I preferred TLW quest by far because I got it done in a few steps. This is going to be a shit grind that forces me to go void, unless I feel like waiting weeks to just cheese it out in Mayhem.
-
The Void step took a long time. Nearly around 500 kills with mixing the progression. My best match gain was 8%. Avg of 4% over its course.
-
12 RepliesWhile removing deaths from the equation is a big help, I still wish they would stop including PvP for quests/exotics. At the very least make it optional, defeat 50 guardians in crucible OR complete x amount of strikes/nightfalls/defeat 50 bosses, etc. Seems like such an easy thing to make happen. I still have old bounties I haven't even tried because they require PvP which I'm just not into--at all. I play Destiny because its fun and laid back--I'm not looking to get twitchy and sweaty like in my Modern Warfare days!
-
1 ReplyI'm going to agree. I did all the steps through PvP because it was straight forward, there were no loss or death penalties, and pretty reasonable. Bungie doing this quest right, had a lot to do with me coming back to play the game. And, in the process of doing Thorn, I got most of the Last Word quest done. I talked a lot of shit, but I cant lie, I've had a lot of fun today. Now, that Drifter quest.... Bungie, we have to talk....
-
12 RepliesDude -blam!- Weaponize the Unknown step. It forces me to play a gamemode I don't like, using a weapon that I don't like, in order to get minimal progress on the step. To say this quest step moves at a crawl is a massive understatement. And they are so unnecessarily vague about how many points each kill gives.

Don't thank them for making a quest "less garbage " than their usual garbage. PvP sucks, has always sucked, and will always suck. Until they make all quest steps a choice between either PVE or PvP, not simply most of the steps, these arbitrary quests will continue to be garbage. Especially when the "exotics" locked behind them are weak, meaningless, garbage. Just like PvP. Both TLW and Thorn are little more than token weapons. They look cool, have cool lore (albeit rewritten lore) behind them, and that's it. They do nothing to make our Guardian more powerful or change gameplay. Another arbitrary quest for a meaningless weapon.
