this new forge is so fun....oh wait, it's not
I'm personally pretty dissapointed so far with how this new forge has turned out.
Why? I was looking forward to playing some 'new' content this evening, instead this has been me watching other people play the game in the hope someone figures this puzzle out. Why are you locking content behind something like this? It's actually madness.
If you wanted to do something the community needed to do then you could have made activites count towards a regional unlock goal or something - public events award 1 point, strikes 2 etc, once the player base has done 5k points, the forge unlocks. This could even have been based on forge completions.
Instead you've locked out the majority of your playerbase behind a bizarre puzzle wall which is actually [u]encouraging them to stop playing the game and go watch others play it[/u] - this is probaly the worst possible implementation of how you could have done this, and that's saying something after the previous forges.
Whoever developed the implementation plan for black armory needs to be covered in peanut butter and locked in a room with some hungry honey badgers, and they would still be having more fun than most of the player base is having right now!
*EDIT - I'm happy to see so much discussion about it as this can only serve to highlight feedback, wether it's in agreement with me or not, so thank you for anyone taking the time to share thoughts on this.
I will add that I did actually spend a few hours last night messing about the puzzle becuase I got bored watching the streams and in all honesty I didn't find it fun. Some did - great, I'm glad there are players that enjoyed this, but my main point is still that this was a way of implmenting new content that appealed to the vast [u]minority[/u], not majority, and I don't see how that's a good way to deliver content.
On reflection, I feel this was an attempt by Bungee to get streams alive and get word out there about this new content to try to raise player engagement and hype - for me it didn't have that effect. I'm happy to see them try to do something new, but the best way to get hype about your game is to deliver [b]quality [/b]content that is [b]refreshing and acessible[/b], most of black armoory hasn't been this.

As far as I've seen, its for the quest for the exotic. Its 650 start to finish and grants a random black armory weapon - but they can also be the prototypes (ie. baligants, swift rides) and they dont even drop at 650. So glad they had this massive mindbending event to unlock a forge....

BA is a great example of lazy, poor content design and hi-lights just how out of touch Bungie devs are with the community. Forsaken was a big step forward and BA was 3 big steps back.

Imagine if Bungie had put the effort, time and money they put in creating the Lab puzzles into fixing bugs or better QoL improvements to the game? Like the Guitar error in Riven Heart? or the Treasure Hunter perk in the Dreaming City? Or the bugged Fastidious Miser triumph? Or improving the drop rate of Dreaming City ghost shell, ship and Sparrow, or fixing the stupid duplicate exotics... NAH..... That isn't made for streamers! Because FŮÇK the players! This game is made to please streamers.

1 ReplyHonestly I liked the new forge and I really wish they didn’t give it out to everyone I wanted to see if the streamers would figure it out since they all already put so much effort into it and that would’ve felt more rewarding towards them and they could’ve been the people to open the gates for the rest of us making them seem as the elite players and getting the recognition they deserve for doing so

19 RepliesCommunity stuff like this should be things to get everyone playing, not sat in orbit watching streams. A better community event would've been collecting materials, or to farm kills. Like Master Rahool has a secret vault and will only open it if you assist him wiping out the scourges of humanity. The quest would be community wide and in two parts "A Million Deaths" - kill a million enemies (community wide) and "Never enough for Master Rahool" - kill 10 million (community wide)

This event is trash. Symbols are trash. Puzzles are trash. We want to shoot things in this FPS game. This was the most cringe event ever, what an epic failure.

99% of people that participate in sports don’t do it at a pro or semi pro level. This is a community event. Anyone here ever watch a sports game? Good then your part of that community, just because pro football players are getting paid millions and getting special training doesn’t separate you as a consumer.

Bungie is probably trying to be different and create a community event, but I'm just not into this. I don't think it's wise to lock content behind a puzzle like this. Maybe lock a side quest, but not the whole thing.

11 RepliesHow does it encourage people to stop playing and watch other people play. You know where the puzzle is, go and have a go at it? If you're not a puzzle solver (like me) take a backseat and wait. But wait in silence. This constant bleating over what is wrong and what is right is seriously ridiculous. You don't like something don't do it. Do something else. Go out with you friends or family, play another game. Watch a film or read a book. Do some housework. Have a nap, literally the possibilities are endless. Moaning about it however, is the worst thing you can do with your time.

What is dumb though is the actual puzzle itself. Why is it so massive when we will just get another forge where we throw batteries at a huge floating thing.... It's not like a new raid encounter, because those are fun to figure out. This one is just a boring mess of symbols and the fact that they are at phase 6 and still not finished the thing, makes me wonder how fun that must be. Just look at their faces and you see even them are tired and bored AF already.

The shooting symbol thing was a cute "Easter egg for a banner" activity for the first three forges. It was a cute touch. But this monstrosity is an epic failure.
